Had two decent rides this week, total of just over 200 kilometers.
Both rides with the wife trailing on freshly groomed trails at reasonably legal speeds and to my surprise I am running between 16-17mpg cdn!!! I was shocked to say the least, double and triple checking my calculations. Wow is all I can say. I know this is basically the same engine that was in my 02 Legend, but it is peppier and no comparision in mileage.
Very, very impressed. :D

Yeah those 500SS are awesome on fuel. My friend has a 05 GSX 500ss and it is also AMAZING on fuel. But when you ride them hard and fast they suck it back tho. We one night had a real fast ride we had to be back to catch a gas station and when riding hard it only gets 10mpg.

LOL, got that right Paul!!! I will be the first to admit, conditions were close to perfect, and again, reasonably legal speeds.

The worst milage I have seen on one is about 13MPG. I'm sure that some get worse.

yeah but the in your face , is when you ride from stop to stop. the 800 and 1000 sdi use about 2 gallons less than my 700. and you can bet I could go no leaner

Just curious what formula you used to calculate. I know nothing about this calculating as I am a southerner and as you know we down here refuse to relate to the metric system  . Anyhoo on another thread going right now four people calculated the same numbers for FB and came up with an answer anywhere from 13 MPG to 17MPG. Doesnt seem like a lot but four MPG could make a big difference on a tank of fuel. As there not a common way to calculate these figures or what. I am not bashing anyone as I said I know nothing about it just curious to know why everyone who did the same math problem came up with a different answer.

By our calculations we are getting about 15-17 mpg. U.S gallon. on our 500ss.

My wifes get about 19 miles to the gallon can. It doesn't seem to matter how hard she drives it the only diference is on mild days. Any one that has ridden with her knows putt isn't in her vocabulary. Last year in Cochrane the milage on my t660 up there was 14 miles to the gallon it drroped 6 miles a gallon from riding down here where you can only blast it on lakes or short spurts. hers stayed at 19 no diference.

My buddy rented one of those sleds in the UP and we were all amazed at the fuel milage it got. There were 3 Attaks and that 500SS. He had the flipper to the bar the whole time trying to keep up and still took less gas than us. I averaged 15 MPG's US so he was getting better.
PS Why is it called a 500 when it's almost a 600, Insurance??

Not sure. I think the marketing department forgot to ask us on that one.
Yeah, major surprise to me as well. Why did I spend the extra cash on SDI? An 05 500SS in our group last weekend was getting better fuel mileage than my 600 SDI. WTF? :(

My buddy is getting 13-14 mpg U.S. on his 06 500mxzss and it is just a hair slower than my other friends 05 600mxz
