I had a Polaris XLT 600 Special for the longest time i was very happy with the snowmobiles performance i got mine up to about 105mph. The sled is a tank they will last forever if they are taken care of. i was getting 100 miles off a tank of gas so about 8-9 mpg, which is not bad considering it is a 600 tripple. i would go ahead and buy it if it is in good condition.

Sincerely,
Brian Jones

I have two 95 XLT with the 580 engine. Both have been good running sleds with no major problems. I have 6500 miles on one of them and it is still running strong. I get about 10 MPG and max out at around 100MPH on a smooth surface. Mine tool along nicely at about 70 with out working to hard. I would say buy it...

If they're 95's, and have 580 engines, they are not original. The 95 and up XLT's were 597cc's aka 600's. The 93 and 94 were 580's.

As a trail sled, with stock exhaust, they did ok. Put pipes on, and your crank will likely go shortly thereafter.

Forgot to add, some 96's had oiler issues, but if it's still running today, unless it's been parked it should be fine.

I have been asking myself the same question... They are the original engines in both. I knew the person that bought them new. They are registered as 95 and have the Polaris anniversary sticker on the hood. I have never seen any other sleds with the 580 in 95 model year. Must have been 94 left overs that Polaris re badged for the 95 model year?? Thanks for the info. I am glad that I am not crazy..

I have a 97 xlt. crank bearings went out at 1300 miles. i only got to put about 60 miles on it after i bought it. I will never buy one again. I am going to be putting a twin in it i think, i want a liberty motor but idk how much i will be spending on that. or where to find one. It sucks tho, i moved out to wyoming in january and wanted to put some good miles on it in real snow, but only went about 2 times before that happened.
