Are any SW members planning on going? W/ scheduling conflicts in the past 5 or so years, I haven't been able to go. But this year w/ us moving up our northern Ontario trip I'll be able to go. I'm heading up Sunday the 26th.

BTW the vintage oval sleds will be there as well.

Im not sure if it is the same circuit or not but I just went to the valcourt track, feburary 18th, what a blast. I had never seen an oval race before. I got some pic and a video of the sleds whipping by, I will have to see if I can get it posted on here. I have to say it is some of the most exciting racing I have watched in some time.

Sorry for the late post about it . We went on the spur of the moment . Well the girlfriend and I headed up on the Sun. to watch the races. We had the dog with us dressed in his winter gear. Black boots , and a green , and brown coat on cause Rotties don't like the cold . Okay he is a woose. Well the races were spectacular. I would tell all if you ever get the chance to go to these events it is well worth it . Ski Doo seemed to dominate all the classes. There was one rider there that took the cake , and the ice cream . lol He dominated . He has the same name as a famous race car driver , and of course as I type this it escapes my memory. DUH. Anyone else make it up there? Rev did you get a chance to go ? I forgot the camera so I unfortunately don't have any pics. to post.

I'll try to post my pics tonight. I'm not sure if I saw you guys w/ the dog or not. There was a couple w/ a black lab & a chocolate lab pup. It was Uncle Jocko.

Unfortunately the OEMs seem to be putting all their money into SX racing these days.

Kind of scary watching the old bogie sleds on the track though. Reminded me of riding down icy township roads years ago.

Here's some of the pics I took. there weren't any of the early 70s triple Blizzards racing. I guess anyone who has 1, feels they're too valuable to race.

Hey Rev. We met the lady that had the pup , the dogs did the meet , and greet thing. lol . We saw the larger Lab as well . The boggie wheel sleds were great, I thought for sure they were gonna spin out, or flip over . They were keeping the power on as hard as they could eh. lol. Great photos.

Watching them going around the corners w/ their foot dragging on the ice was quite funny.

I guess you must be a relatively young guy. The racer you are talking about is Jacques Villenueve. He has been racing the ovals since the 70's when he got started with his brother, Gilles. Gilles, racing for Alouette, built a twin tracked, sit in a cockpit racer with the engine mounted behind the driver and had an independent front suspension. It kind of looked like an open wheel race car. Only won one race and had a lot of mechanical problems. Anyway, Gilles went on into racing cars and eventually raced Formula 1 for Ferrari and became world champion. He was killed in a crash during practise for a Canadian Grand Prix. The track was renamed in his honor. His son is named Jacques and he went on to race in Champ Cars int CART and then to Ferrari where he won one world championship. Since then he has not been all that successfull and has been on different team in F1. You saw Uncle Jacques. Young Jacques is racing for BMW Sauber this year. Not one of the higher rated teams.

Here is an old photo of Gilles in the 1st twin tracked racing snowmobile.

Well I'm not to sure about a young guy. lol . I think my memory is shot. lol . You are correct Villenueve. I thought when they announced his name during the rider intoductions that he was no realation to the race car driver. I might be mistaken though. Thanks for the info though pretty cool.

There also was a chap racing there by the name of Chuck Villeneuve. He's from New England & no relation to the St. Cuthbert family.

Old Jacko doesn't get beat very often. He won Valcourt for the 21'st consecutive time this year buy a half lap, and that was after having to replace the entire frontend of the sled after a wicked wreck.

Here's a few pics from Valcourt.
