What maitenance should be performed before putting a sled into storage at the end of the year?? Drain fuel? Also, what is fogging?

Fogging is spraying storage oil (Fog) into your carbs (or whatever you have) and then putting your sled away. I also grease the whole sled, give it a good wash/wax spray WD 40 and plug the pipe with a rag. I also get the front and back up off the ground and put some staybul(sp?) in my fuel. Isn't it a little early to be thinking of this? If I have snow Alaska must have some left.

charlo pretty much covered it. I leave about 1 gallon of gas in it with fuel stabilizer mixed in with it. I always start it up during the summer every couple of weeks and let it run till the engine gets heated up good. And no I don't have any problem fouling up plugs doing this. Got the same set of plugs in for the last 4 years now.

I put it up on my trailer for the summer. Rags can be kind of bad to use to plug the exhaust. If you have mice around they can chew threw that. I've heard of people using steel wool to plug the exhaust off.

Before I put it away for good I take it down to the house and wash it off then let it run and dry everything off real good. Moisture will seize up a engine real quick.

This is just some of the stuff I do.

First of all, Welcome!!! I’ve read two of your posts and it looks like your kinda new to snowmobiling. Or at least the mechanical aspect. Keep asking Questions! And read, read, read. Before the invention of the internet, there is no way I could have talked to sled expert in Canada , about a problem I’m having with my sled in the US. or visa versa ! That’s why SWRules

CHARLO AND POORFARMER are talking 2 different storage ways.

i like doing what CHARLO does.

and yes i would use steel wool in the pipe if you have mice around.

do a search on fogging your engine,,, there are a couple of real good posts in here explaining the entire process as well as some checklists that some people use when putting their sleds asleep for the summer.

Do not spray wd-40 on anything! It actulay premotes corrosion. Use the fogging oil to spray on the engine and other parts you dont wont to rust

I actually spray the pipe with fogging oil and the painted parts with wd-40 (more to clean) then wipe off the wd-40.

I mix synthetic 2 stroke oil and WD forty in a spray bottle and coat the engine, pipe, suspension and tunnel.
All of these parts still look like new after 2 years and 6000 miles.

I also fog the engine, lift the track, fill the tank with fuel, grease it, add some fuel stabilizer, park it in the barn, tarp it and don't look at it until November.
