: Is This The Best Winter Ever?

It may have started slow, but with three record snowfalls in 3 weeks, this winter has turned into a real beauty here in the North Bay area. The powder is irresistable!
I just got back from a great ride along the power lines, and it struck me that it's the best riding I've ever expirienced in Ontario. Made me fall in love with my machine all over again, and confirmed that a crossover sled is the only way to go. If anything, I'm tempted to buy a deeper lug track and forget about the studs for the next few weeks. WHo needs them?

The only problem with this winter is the lack of grooming by the North Bay club. North Bay is going to get a bad name because our trails are almost always total CR@P (except for Redbridge, the groomer operator there is my hero) and all the neighbouring clubs have much better trails. Don't know what's going on with them this year, but it seems like they've decided to groom a maximum of once a week.

One of our better ones here in Northern NB. I am running out of place to put the snow :cussing: and we are supposed to get another storm at the end of the week.

Send some south. I will find you a place to put it. We had snow in mid Dec, then it melted and we havent had rideable snow since. Dont look good for the rest of the year.

seven degrees yesterday, still have a green lawn.
At least we did get 1 1/2 inches of rain of Thursday.
Worst season ever, ever...
At least the trailer will get some use this year.

Pitiful, absolutely pitiful

I don't have much experience to fall back on but all I can say is WOW I’m having a blast, trails in my area are good. I mostly go to the inisfill area for most of my riding and they just keep getting dumped on day after day. Not like you guy’s way up north but more than enough to make me happy. The trails are smooth and fast what more can you ask for. I just put on another 140km with the father in law today we did it in just over 2 hours we were flying for the most part. I tell ya it was cold out today even more so when you are flying through the open fields. :undercover:

Quite a change here as well Newf, had all but given up three weeks ago, snow had melted off the roof. Now it just seems to keep coming, thank God for the snowblower!!
Local clubs have been doing a bang-up job on the trails!

Another 10-15cm last night, and still snowing hard this morning!!!
THe only downside is that most of my riding buddies have plowing business' so they've never got time to ride this year, too busy pushing snow around.
Oh well, I may have to ride by myself, but this is one awesome winter for riding.

You know, we used to head to NB for riding on a regular basis, but I gotta tell you the last couple of years, the lack of grooming in the immediate area of NB has deterred me. Seems like the 30k around town are always in rough shape. It not so bad going out, but to know you have to go back through it after a long day of riding has started to turn me off. And my buddy who is not on a Rev hates it even more than me.

we have about 4.5 feet of condensed snow in the bush in Southern Muskoka and its still coming down every day. :) Trail bases are the best I have seen in a few years. we got about 18 inches of fluffy stuff with a short break for some freezing rain, wet snow, ice pellets and wet snow between Thursday and Sunday. 8 more inches of snow yesterday too :) Can't wait to go plowing with the front bumper out on the lakes this weekend.

Sorry to hear of the lack/poor gromming in NB Newf, can't figure that one out. Sledders bring large coin to any area, is North Bay so built up their independently wealthy??? Just kidding.
As for our area, kudos to the groomers, doing a bang-up job. I see many, many of the small local buisiness owners heavily involved as they know it's all they have over the lean winter months.

Well, it's official, our local club might as well not groom at all.
Sunday when I was out the trails were choppy and getting in hard shape. Last evening after work I go for a ride, and the A/D still hadn't been groomed since the weekend. The trail was absolutly brutal.

I normally like a little bit of chop. It gets the blood flowing, gives a good workout, but when you're talking about a transprovincial trail, 2 foot moguls are a bit much, especially on a 50km stretch of trail, and especially for days and days on end.

What is the point of buying a permit, especially this winter when I spend all my time riding the powder next to the trails, and avoiding the "groomed" trails every chance I get.

What I really don't understand; Go to Marten River, Bonfield or Redbridge and the trails are perfect. Is North Bay's problem the club President, the executive, or the groomer operators?

Nice to hear so many of you have such awesome snow.. not any ridable snow yet here in central maine.. nothing. Weve had 3 or 4 storms 2 to 3 inches then it warms up and all of it melts. I see grass out my window as I type this... the same view I have had all season so far.. and with it being the start of the 2nd week of march... I guess its time to put the sleds away and buy a 4 wheeler.

Worst winter for sledding I have ever seen in the midwest. Didn't start until end of Feb and about done now. The good news is I fished more.
