The wife and I did a run the wed from Orangeville to Mount Forest total km aprox 210. We filled up in mount forest all they had was reg gas I try to put 91octain in if I can. We filled up had lunch and started to head back on the way back I noticed that my sled sounded louder and I felt move vibration in the hands and feet. My wife was following me and she said my sled started to stink. I have lots of power and everything else seam fine. The vibration could have been my mind playing tricks on me because I was worried about the rougher sounding engine. My first though was maybe I got crap gas but my wife’s sled seamed to run ok. I have aprox 650km on my sled any ideas anyone?

The smell could be a belt burning up or your hyfax were melting. Those are easy to check out and would be the 1st thing to look for.

I see you have doos. Have you done anything to keep the clutches cooler? They can get very hot and eat a belt in no time.

The smell can easily be nothing other than a different brand of gasoline or, it might be something else. However, unless you changed something else or something else changed at fillup, I doubt you'd be having a different issue. Your hyfax or slides are the plastic on the slide rails. If they get hot, you'll feel it in the power loss first, most likely. You should also smell a melting or burning plastic smell - it may smell like wax almost. A belt is very distinctive - burned rubber - no mistaking that. I'm betting you noticed the smell of different fuel - and the engine may run just a bit hotter with lower octane. The heat can change the smells you smell.

AHHHHHHH Hyfax = sliders got ya, thanks for the help I am just a bit paranoid as I have the worst luck and next month on the 4th I am heading the Parry Sound area for a few days of sledding and I don’t want to break down if it can be avoided.

Need to remove the plastic cover on the belt gaurd or at least drill a bunch of 1-1 1/2" holes in it for better air circulation. Take off the windage plates on the secondary is pretty much a must too. While your in there, remove the airbox from the side panel and plug the 5 open holes w/ panty hose or some other breathable filter. These holes will allow belt dust to enter your carbs. Getting the clutches cooler will decrease belt dust. I also drilled a hole behind the front shock and added a screen and waterproof filter for extra cooling. Also added a hole just above the foot wells w/ just a screen. Here's a pic of the air flow mod. I also have a part dia. of the secondary. The plates are on each side of the secondary #'s 20 and 21.

I'll try again. Having probs.

Good advice from wecker20. The belts in the REv just do not get enough cooling, mountain guys remove the guard altogether. I would take the belt off and check to see if any cogs are missing. This can cause a dirty vibration.

Thanks for the advice all, I will remove the belt and have a good look at it tonight and remove the black guard.
