 :D

Just purchase a new left over 04 Venom SX. My first Yamaha :inlove:

With not even one mile on it yet...I was looking for any tips as far as maintaining the sled and also looking for know weak spots (if they have any) to be aware of.

I hope to keep this one for many years to come. It has the 600 engine, 2 stroke, hydraulic brake and a :hallo1: crazy look. I've been reading about this sled and I keep getting very positive news on it...light, quick off the get go and excellent trail sled...now, I am also looking to know the bad side (if any).

I was told by the salesmen that a cleaning of the carbs once a year is almost a given for the two strokes,,,how true is this?

Again, you will be hearing allot from me in the future and if I can post a picture on this website, I will post my adventures.

From Venom1.........all the best, talk to you later...

Keep the gastank and oiltank full and enjoy the sled. Its a very reliable sled.
I think the salesman was feeding you a line of BS about the carbs. As long as you run the sled out of gas in the spring and drain the carbs you will be just fine.

Hey,
I think that's a great way to save alot of money. What did you pick it up for just by the way?
As for the carbs, some swear by getting them cleaned every year, some don't.
I haven't touched the carbs on my Phazer since I bought it 2 years ago. Still runs perfect. I put stabilizer in the tank at the end of the year, run it for a while on that gas, and then empty it out. Any left over gas is stabilized. Works for me.

Enjoy the sled.

I picked it up for 5900 plus taxes. Included was a $500 Yamabucks.. Got me Yamaha cover with underside blanket for traveling on the highway (not to scratch the cab) helmet, synthetic oil for one year and a hat.

I figure I saved about $1700 or there about's.

Do you run your Yamaha with Synthetic oil or regular yamalube?

Yamalube 2-S (make sure its 2-S) will work just fine in your Venom. If you had a Yamaha with powervalves Id say to use a good synthetic because it tends to keep the valves a little bit cleaner.
Ive used Yamalube 2-S in everything ranging from leafblowers, chainsaws to sleds and it works fine. It doesnt smoke much, doesnt stink and Ive never lost an engine while using Yamalube.

I've used Amsoil HP Injector oil since I got it 2 years ago. I've put on almsot 2000 kms, and no problems. Over 4000 total kms on the machine.
Oh, also before storing the sled I remove the plugs and pour about a cap full of the oil down each hole. I then give the pull rope a few tugs slowly to cover the cylinder walls. It's a tip I picked up from the guys on here. I use spare plugs to start it next year, and once the smoke clears I put my NGK Irridium plugs back in.
Sounds like you got a great deal on a brand new (non-current year) sled.
