I did something really retarded this weekend, A bunch of us went out this Sat it was a great day on the trails. We got back to the trailers and started to load up, I loaded mine ok then I get the wife’s lined up and give it, I have to give lots of gas to get it up as I have no traction mats and her track is not studded. Well I was not lined up very good I caught the outside ski on the trailer edge and pealed a chunk out of her ski about ˝ inch deep and 9 inches long. I felt like a retard after that the wife was not mad but now I have to get a new ski because of my carelessness. :bash: :bash: :bash:

When will I ever learn to slow down, I'm always breaking stuff. My Bro-in-law calls me an Animal.

I think we have all done the same thing. I know I have.

Happens/happened to all of us

Check salvage yards for tracks that have seen there last days. you can get them free or cheap and they make great mats

Great idea about the used track!

Don't feel bad Icerider, like the guys said, we have all been there, done that. At least you didn't roll the wifes sled :bash: Thank God she wasn't with us, still doesn't know about it :dazed:

:bash: I hate that when something happens like that. I learned that loading trick when I watch my dad ruin his day once. He was loading his 73 TNT on to the trailer. It had a light dusting of snow with a wee bit of ice under it .
Well by the 3 try the temper was kicking in.. yep just a little more gas AND some traction :whistling: WOW dad jumped the trailer and stuck it in the trunk of a 68 chevy impala w00t. Talk about ruining ones day , but made one big day for a little guy , way cool dad  .

When I started into the sport on my own. I sure remebered that day , I had mats and guides on from day one.

Tell me about it, my skis on my old 98 Formula Z looked like mini javolins due to clipping the edge of my old tilt bed so many times

Just swap the skiis right for left. The ugly gouge will be less noticable. Should still ride well.

Great idea Spaceman!!! (and I really mean that.)

You must have been a truck driver to come up with that one. LOL

A friend of a friend, (and I really mean that too. Honestly, this didn't happen to me.)
He was loading his sled on a tilt bed trailer and like you have to do, gave her to get it up onto the trailer. Unfortunately, his timing on hitting the brake was a little off and the sled slammed into the salt shield really hard. The trailer slammed down. He went over the handle bars. Over the salt shield, sommersaulting through the air and landing with a huge thud onto the hard cover on the back of his pick up truck. As if that wasn't enough, he rolled off the truck and made a very hard landing onto the ground.

The funny part (Oh yea, that wasn't the funny part yet.) was when he jumped up real
quick and leaned onto the back of his truck and looked around as if to say, "Nobody
saw that right?" "Uh, I meant to do that. "

I hate tilt trailers for that very reason. They're a pain in the rump roast to load and far from safe.

I always take a pair of vise-grips and bend the edges out a little bit so it reduces the chance of catching the ski edge on the side.

I used an old truck bed liner and have it hanging over the end of the trailer about 10 inches so when I am loading (tilt) there is no edges to catch, once the carbides catch the groove the sled just slides up.....

I've got an old 1/2 section of track with a chain looped thru it that I can attach to the back of my trailer with a safety hook ... sorta like an "extended traction mat" it works great! Never need to take a run at the trailer, just crawl up with no speed or track spin ever ...

I'd love to take credit for the idea, but I actually got it from Revrnd ... works great Kris .. thnaks!

BTDT, got the scars to prove it :( I actually think I did it on MikeD's old old tilt bed with my 88 Plus. Header over the sled, deflect of the truck and smaked down on the ground.

you should feel better now after some of those stories.

It really works wonders fishy ... I can load my sleds with ease on snow, ice, asphalt, concrete ... no matter!

Back a few years after dinging up my sled in a washout I was loading it back upon my el-crapo trailer and since it was so steep you really had to take a run at it. Well the carbide on the bent ski caught the deck and I ended up stradling the handle bars - doh. Good thing I already had kids. My son and the other spectators moaned in sympathy as I slumped over the bars in agony.

After the night I had that was almost the last straw. LOL.

Another funny trailer episode - My buddy had just bought a Mach 1 and the first time we loaded it on el-crapo he gave er a quick shot like we did with the other sleds and it launched up the trailer faster than he could grab a fistfull of brake and popped the snow sheild clean off. As we stood there looking at the snow sheild laying on the ground we laughed our heads off. That was the last ride for that trailer. LOL

Man I hated that trailer - funny thing is the new owner sure likes it!!!!! LOL.

And yes every sked I've owned wear custom shaved ski's!

Funniest trailer story I have is my buddies "free" trailer. He got it with a sled from Ottawa. He brought his sled home on it and once he got it home it litterally fell apart in the laneway. Well he went to put it on another trailer to bring it to my place to tear it apart and the tounge bent and it went over and nailed his new truck right square in the tailgate. He tells me how it happened and I thought how in the hell did he do that. Well I said to him just leave it with me and I'll cut out the axle and we'll store the usable parts in the barn and take the rest to the scrap heap. Well I'm pulling the thing by hand towards my back yard, passing my car and the darn thing takes on a mind of its own and pivots in the center and nails my car in the door leaving a 5 inch gash. Well I almost lost it. I took and cut that POS into bits after bashing it with a sledge and took it to the dump before it did any other damage. I hope no one was driving by while I was having an episode - LOL. We still chuckle over the "free" trailer.

Man, good thing you killed that trailer....sounds like it may have been possessed or something.
And I have to agree, had I been traveling past and saw you in "episode" mode, I'd have lost it! :lmao:
