He's not BS'ing you, it snows like that and deeper out here in the mountainous areas of the west. Up higher on the mountains, the snow is quite a bit deeper than that.

Absolutely TRUE... My family went to Cooke City, Montana just last weekend ( Feb 25th) and it was so awesome. 4 foot of fresh powder and yes drifts OVER 10 feet high. My husband hit a drift that was about 8 feet high, he didn't see it and went right off of it, stuck his sled straight up and down on the other side, knocked himself out.. :bash:
We had to call it an early day.. But the following day we left the kids home and went back out.. hit the Big Horn Mountians in Wyoming. Again fresh powder 4 feet deep and drifts over 10 feet high. spent more time digging out than actually playing, but it was so fun..
Best snow we've had in years, going again Sunday.

5 to 6 at any elevation is pretty conseravtive judgement of depth........I'd say closer to 10 @10000ft

Well, we were at 9000 ft elevation.. I am only 4'11" and I didn't dare step off in the powder, my Hubby is 6'1" and he stepped of to get me unstuck and sank to his chest... I just " Rode it like I stole it" until I was out of the deep stuff.. :!:
What an absolute high :p . I have been afraid to try new stuff, I was just trail riding, but in the last few weeks it seemed like a shame to ride my pretty sled on the trail when she could have powder all over her... and I am sooo glad I grew balls and really ride hard... :dazed: it takes me about 3 days to get the grin off my face... w00t

skidoo girl, How are the roads on the way over to cooke city this time of year? I have taken
the the chief joseph hiway many times in the summer, but never in the winter. Or is it closed in the winter? That way is probably one of my favorite roads in wy along with 14A
coming out of the big horns.

The roads have been pretty clear all the way to the junction at the Beartooth Highway.. Presidents Day we had to turn around on Dead Indian Pass because the road was drifting over and there were no plows to be seen, the wind was blowing about 60 mph and it was 35 below 0.. other than that day, we have had no problems. Chief Joseph has never closed in the 10 years I have lived here. I am sure if it got to bad they might close it. but there are alot of people who live up there , they have to keep it plowed. :)
