I am attempting to find out how to properly setup the suspension on my 03 rev 800. I am 185 lbs. and am finding that sometimes the rear suspenion is bottoming hard on whoop sections. I don't have the rear spring set all the way up because I don't want to get beat to death when I'm not riding hard. Is there a good set of shocks out there that a normal person can afford and will that help my situation?

then just take it up on notch if it is bottoming, if that is too stiff for you then you are riding the wrong sled and riding in the wrong conditions.

I agree with Paul on this one (other than the wrong sled stuff, geez Paul, go easy on the guy :D ) You won't notice THAT much of a difference during regular riding and if you check with most "experts" occassional bottoming when riding hard means your set up is dead on. What you can do (instead of new shock) is have the shock re-valved a little stiffer. Mine let go abot 6,000 K and when I had it re-done I really like the new valving.

It's got 1300 miles on it and I think they were mostly Vermont miles. I don't know what the conditions are like there but if it's anything like the New York trails I've been riding then its had a workout.

Not all dealers have someone on staff who can re-build and re-valve shocks. Check with your local dealer or get a referral from one of your freinds. Should only be about 60 or 70 bux.

Thanks again, thats an upgrade I can afford and wont end up in devorce. Buying the sled put me in the dog house so I have to be carefull what I spend to maintain and upgrade.

your shocks are the backbone of your suspension. We get ours done every 800miles but it depends on how agressive you ride if you are bottoming out try turning it up a notch.
As well I change the rear tension springs every other season they weaken over time and are like 50 bucks a set the stiffer you got them the quicker they wear out.

But I would deffently have your shocks done, up here we have a snow cross dude that does them for about 40 bucks CND. / shock. A little more this year because I went to stainless shafts. But it is well worth the moola your sled is worth it to!!! the season is short giver and good luck.
Im not sure if I would send them to the dealer they will gouge ya.
I think our guy does a lot of mail order stuff but if you can find someone local that's the best drop them off pick them up the next day drive on.

VALVE WORK WILL HELP OR A DUAL STAGE SPRING THAT HAS A SOFT SETTING THEN WHEN IT GETTS LOWER THE STIFF PART OF THE SPRING TAKE PLACE. MOST TIME THE SPRINGS ARE 2 COLORS OR THE METAL ON THE SPRING GETTS BIGGER AS YOU MOVE DOWN THE SPRING THAT IS WHAT DUAL RATE SPRINGS ARE FOR. "SOFT RIDE BUT THEN THEY HAVE A STIFF AREA FOR HANDLING"
