just wondering what you poeple do when you install a new OEM belt. i,ve been told to clean the belt first, either with warm soapy water,or brake cleaner.just wondering is it really needed.???
one thing i do is take it easy on the new belt for around 50km .
does anybody else have any tips they do when they put on a new belt.
OH AND DO YOU USE STOCK OEM BELTS OR AFTERMARKET.????
my friend always used OEM but he tryed a dayco on his 99 mach1 and it didnt last to long so now he,s back to OEM .

I always use the OEM 127 on my 02 800 and on the 01 800 before I wrote it off last year.
Make sure you clean you clutch faces with warm water, soap and a green brillo pad. Also do the same for the belt. DO NOT USE AN SOS PAD.
You want to remove the glaze from the belt. Also you want to remove any build up on the clutch faces.
Drive from 1/4 throttle to WOT on and off for about 50km-75 km.
I never had a problem before when following this little process.

Good advice!! I'll wash any debris off with brake cleens. As for belt selection, my OEM was dusting from the time I brought the sled home until I pulled the belt off at 500 kilometers, put on an Ultimax and it's been much better. Go figure???

Never clean anything. Usually only change the belt in the field after I've blown one, so go figure.

Same here, I just slap it in and ride. I easily get a couple seasons out of a belt and thats beating it pretty hard.

I've heard you should drive it slow the first 50 but that's just not realistic for me. I try to take it easy for a while but not that easy. I have not had any belt problems running this way. I do wash them after I buy them.

WOW what a difference that new belt made in my sled. i put in a clutch kit and rode one weekend with the old belt sled was over reving by 600rpm 8600rpm put on the new belt took it easy for 70km rev,s went back to normal 8,000rpm. and the sled performed way better.:)

You should always scrub down the belt to clean off the mold release from the manufacturing process if you want to get the maximum performance out of the sled.
First 20 or so miles keep the power in check until it is broke in and away you go.
Typically the bigger bore sleds are tougher on belts so proper care is more crytical. Taking a belt out can and often does do extensive damage to the pan, cover and sometimes crank so weigh the risk.
I delaminated one last week and luckily I check the belt every ride for wear and tear and caught it. Just started to seperate in 2 places but didn't chunk.
I take my new belt and pick a day with the kids to break them in. Then take em off after and put my running belt on and the newest is a broken in spare so if need be I can pop a replacement on and let er rip right away.
I find my 900 really heats up the belt on long pulls so I tend to be a bit over cautious.
