Riding this weekend, my 05 600sdi gade developed a high pitch squeal while accelerating. Seems to be in the 5500-6500 rpm range. Can't hear anything at idle or while running on a stand. Loose it over 6500 rpm, but don't know if its just getting drowned out by increased engine noise. Its a very high pitched squeal and not all that loud, but actually quite an annoying sound, and more concerning is what it could possible be.

Just a little more info - about 7000km on sled, no previous issues. From what I can determine, it sounds like its originating from the clutch side. Clutches were just cleaned and everything appeared fine.

Just looking for suggestions/diagnose help.

thanks,

FishHog

Does it sounds like a high pitched whistle? I have that on mine occasionally. Not sure what it's from though.

yeah, I supposed you could call it a whistle. Its kind of an ear piercing tone, that is quite annoying. Just started on the weekend, so I'm really not sure what it could be. Everything appears fine, and I'm kind of at a loss as to what to do about it.

it's in the clutches, mine did it a little and went away. the other sled i had did it too.

my 7c has a "ring" at around that rpm range...don't think its a major deal..a harmonics issue maybe.

I also have been experiencing that high pitched squealing sound. Although my sled is much different from yours, the noise is the same. And it can't be the clutches cause I put a brand new one on my machine and there is no noise difference. It cant be that serious because I have put on a few 1000K since it began last season. And it will get very annoying as it continues, but you will get used to it.

mines a high pitched very annoying squeal. However, it looks like winter is over, so I can't even do much until next season.

Time to start waxing the boat, and getting the fishing gear out of the attic.

not yet because the "great pumpkin" has an older brother named "great snowblower" that hasn't risen from his lair yet this winter. it has to go with a blast.

Not to over state the obvious but you didn't change your belt did you. Similar problem occurred with me on an older sled. Belt was made of a harder compound and she would squeal.

I dont know much about sleds, sense im just a kid, but everytime we had squealing from are cars it was becuase of a loose belt...probably wrong, but worth mentioning

I don't think this is much of a squealing problem from the belt, but more of a high pitched whistle. On my sled it sounds like a whistle in the engine area, it changes with temp, rpm, speed, and throttle position. Some times its quiet and some times its very loud, so loud that people I drive by tell me theres something wrong with my sled. -I already know that-

not a new belt, but I was hoping to switch belts to see if it made a difference. Unfortunately, this weather has changed me riding plans.

thanks for all the suggestions though guys.

clutches may be a bit out of alignment? belt could be streched a bit? as long as its not the crank bearings. cousin found that out on his indy 500 lol

Could be all the above things, but I've noticed that when I turn my head just a little , I get a whistle. But for me, it's just wind whistling past my helmet. Could be, maybe, you've devoloped a loose seal in your helmet some place??
