I have a T-cat that should make around 200 HP at 8700RPM. I am trying to figure out my best gearing, right now it is down a tooth (down one on top, up one on bottom) from stock. I am thinking of going back to stock. I calculated the MPH and at 8700 assuming a 10% OD I would be at 111mph wit stock gearing more like 122. WHat should a 200 HP machine run (MPH) in 660? Also is 10% a good OD figure to use?

Thanks

dont screw arround to much with that stuff if you are not sure how it works.
a solution more reliable for you is trying tuning the clutch properly.on this way you can have a fast start up and improoving your top end speed.

fast 426, i`m just gonna be of "general" help to you but read my words and it will guide you. first, find out what the best mph is for the sleds that are using a similar set up... i`ll guess ....200 hp, 660` hmmnn say 110 mph. it doesent have to be 100% exact. ok try to get a gearing chart (i know ski doo has one) that takes into consideration of the overdrive which in doo talk is .83 (i believe) it will give you a rpm for the mph for the ratio. you gear about 10% higher than your most likely speed. the reason for this is efficientcy concerns and over rev ramifications. i`m not familer with cat clutches as far as there overdrive characteristics but this should get you in the ball park. one thing i`ve found over years and years of drag racing is that with a snowmobile type clutch system theres a fairly wide spread of gearing that will yeild the same results. in other words a if you determine a 19/ 44 is optimun and you only have a 21/44 available its more than likely ok.

In 660 you dont want to go into O.D. keep the clutches at 1to 1 and run the most gear as the machine will pull. High gear ratio = high track speed

i think thats the whole theory of gearing 10% higher than what your most likely to attain speed wise.

You know I don't ever bash people, and I try to be nice, but give me a break. If I didn't know what I was doing, or how things worked, would I have a 200HP motor?, would I be asking a question like this? My question was a very legimate question and the next couple replies were quite helpful.
