: Fusion Steering
Plamb 03-12-2006, 09:31 PM So... is the reason why Polaris has "fixed" the '06 hard steering problems for '07 because they removed Rider Select?
If so, have any of you that have ridden an '07 IQ at a demo asked if an '06 can be converted easily?
And finally, if not, has anyone gone to handlebar hooks and/or a wider handlebar (Edge? AC ZR?) to get a little more leverage on the wheel?

Rider select is still on the 07's. They went from a 7 selection down to a 5.
Plamb 03-22-2006, 09:20 PM Not so much... the IQ sleds (Fusion replacements) all have "fixed post" steering...

Did you watch the 07 webcasts on polaris's website? They stated there was a 5 position steering system. I just checked there site again and the FST IQ has 5 position, the FST switchback has 7 position, 600 HO CFI switchback has 7, 600 HO switchback has 7 and I stopped there so there may be more.
FUSION900PA 03-23-2006, 08:20 AM Rider select did not contribute to hard steering. The new snowgoer says that poo has changed some geometry and shaved down the ski keel to ease steering effort.
NewfieBullet 03-25-2006, 12:39 PM Rider-select is still available on Switchbacks and touring sleds. Not on the RMK or sport sleds.
The touring models always had only 5 positions, so no changes there.
Supposedly they got rid of it on the mountain sleds and ditchbangers because it saves 5 pounds, only was position was needed 90% of the time, and people screwed up their handeling by putting it in the wrong position, then complained about their handeling afterwards.
I don't care, I thought it was a great idea, but everytime I say on a sled the furthest position was the only one that felt comfortable.
timespentsearching 03-25-2006, 01:40 PM they took it of the mountain sled too because some people had problems when the bars got pulled hard it would slide up and down
SnoFast 03-27-2006, 09:07 AM Hey Fats, I have heard ( don't know this for sure) that moving the ski mount pivot 1 inch forward, or 1 inch back, makes a big difference in steering effort. I also "think" I heard that was one of the "fixes" for 07. If I was you, when the 07's are out, I'd measure yours and see how it compares to the 07. Can you drill new mounting holes in your current ski's, who knows?
Check out Holz Racing Products (HRP) for their IQ EZ steer. A few hundred bucks but from what I hear it works.
Pepsi_fuzz 03-06-2007, 07:41 PM ... or you could get used to the fact that the steering is hard, develop some muscle, and stop complaining like a wimp ha ha! LOL.
joe_jeep 03-07-2007, 11:49 AM ez steer seems like the way to go! i have used ez steers for years on older sleds and really like it! wear a little sooner, but i like the steering effort. good luck
timespentsearching 03-07-2007, 12:25 PM get different skis if you want it to be better, and wider bars. if you want to get rid of select someone makes a kit to get rid of it. get some wider bars and the 07 or aftermarket skis and this will fix all the problem
bharte 03-08-2007, 12:58 PM I just picked up my ne 06 Fusion last week. I've been reading about the steering problem, but have to note that it's not that bad. I was expecting it to be worse from reading these forums. It is a little stiff, I admit, but also very direct, which I like. My old sled (03 trail touring) was real easy on the bars, but bad for over-steering. I'd rather have to push a little harder and get quicker response...besides, I'm having way too much fun on this sled to worry about a minor detail like that. I read on another site that if you cut the back :) 4" off the scags, it gets much easier to steer and you don't lose any steering performance. I haven't tried it yet, so if anyone has please let us know the results.

You've brought up a good point. Anyone ride the classic style bicycle with the curved handlebars? Really comfortable, low effort to steer. Now, have you used a mountain-bike style bicycle? Straight bar, stiff steering, but much more precise (you know exactly how far you're steering). On a bicycle you don't notice the difference much because it weighs practically nothing... but on a snowmobile you do notice it. The Fusion and all IQ sleds have the tighter steering, which makes it a bit harder. Which do you prefer... easy, oversteering sleds, or tight harder to steer sleds? Once you get used to the darting effect and how it handles, it's not that big of a concern. If it does concern you, the best way to fix the problem is a good set of skis, and adjust the stops on the front of your track so more weight rides on the skis allowing better traction on the skis with less darting.
