Does anyone else think 162 hp is pretty low for a 1000 twin? A mach has more than that and i can hammer a mach with my ZR 900. Pretty disappointed

Wow, I think my zr9 came out of the box with 150. 162 stock should be o.k. Kevin

you can hammer a Mach with your ZR900 :lmao:

I know 3 guys with ZR9s and the Mach Chicken eats them alive and spits them out

162hp is quite respectable IMO for a twin

BTW why would you be disapointed

you have a 150hp sled that beats Machs

So why would a sled with 12more hp not beat Machs as well

I personally agree that 162 is a little tame for a 1000, however I beleive they will pump up the hp to 170 ish for the production year once they get the mill dialed in. IMO it's better to go a little low on the numbers and do some improvement and make it better rather than come out high with the numbers and try and exceed something that you can't. It always looks better when you can improve hp #'s on a sled for the first year production, time will tell.

Very good point, better to err of the side of caution and longevity rather than 'pump it' up and 'blow it up' :D

Given the emisson requirement this engine has to meet i think that the power is where it should be. Snowmobiles are going thru what cars had to with emissons which is sacrifice some power now to meet exhaust laws and tweak to later to get the performance from there.

It may be a bit low, but I also believe that this is done in order to meet emmisions. Also not that they are stating it to be at 515lbs. 15 pounds less than Ski Doo lists the Mach at

Remember in 03 how everyone with a new 800 thought they were going to eat F-7's for breakfast?
I don't think I'd be betting against this new Cat just yet.

I read today in snogoer that it is more like 168-169.

I seen very few new Mach's that run like a 170 h.p. sled. I've seen lots of them get beat bad by well set up Fire Cat's etc. 162 is a low ball figure. Expect high 160's to be final production. Even early dyno numbers show the F8 at about 148 h.p. so the F1000 will be great.

There are allot of Doo guys disappointed with the new Mach. For a 1000 it isn’t putting out any real overwhelming numbers like it should not to mention the $10 spark plugs and $150 belts the owners are burning through. I think the new Cat may be better but still be a disappointment.
Why would anyone drop the big coin on a large CC sled when a F-7 or new F-8 will more than likely only be one sled length or so behind.
To make a separate model all together for an extra 10hp really is an entire waste. I guess even the manufacturers will waste there money for bragging rights.

Price out a belt for an F1000 yet ? $140 us or there abouts. Not any better. Plugs are cheap if you avoid buying from a Doo dealer. Besides....The F1000 uses 4 of them....Yikes.
Unless BRP can actually figure ouyt how to make a 170 h.p. sled run like it should I'm putting my money on the F1000 in a drag across the like. It may be way too early but if the F1000 comes out of the gate as strong as the F7 did in 03 look out.

I talked at length with my dealer about the low hp numbers on the 800's and 1000's. He said that they (Cat) wanted the dyno numbers to be more consisitant or higher than advertised across the the board on all dyno's, so they lowballed them. He also said that the 800's were killing F7's and the 1000 killed the 800's. I have an 01' ZR800 with a 900 top end with a head, v-force reeds and a can that absolutly eats Mach Z's and Apexes. So I am prettty confident that the 1000's will rule.
