Hey guys, I just bought a 1998 FIII 700 and I was going through and getting it ready for the season. As I was putting my secondary back together I was wondering what would happen if I changed the setting of the spring (currently in B6). My question is what does more preload and less preload actually do?

Raises and lowers rpm

It controlls the shift speed, more preload slower up shift also the preload is needed to stop belt slipping. To low of a preload= belt slip, to high preload decreased efficiency. more preload= faster back shift.

i would re-think that a bit sled-head. not that your wrong , i'm not trying to start anything here,but there are definate up and back shift issues involved. i think all you will see with a increase in preload in the secondary, all things being equal, is a up shift, more so, a back shift change.

I agree.......But you gain rpm by tightening the secondary........slower up shift.......loosen the spring and it will pull down the rpm.......correct..yes.
