I adjusted the chain tension hand tighten then backed off 1/4 turn now I have a hard time to pull the lever in reverse I have to go ahead and try a few time.Is the chain to tight? It's a 600 Touring

You could loosen the chain up another turn or so to see if that makes a difference, but my bet is your clutch is dragging on the drivebelt - idled a little too high. High idle problem and mechanical reverse, together, can be a pain in the butt.....
