I was just curious as to what everyone is riding when they take off up the mountain or through the powder...

Hey OMOTM, how do you like your psi engine? Is it as reliable as an oem engine?

I ride a 97 mxz 670 with136" X1 1/4" track 2 1/4" handle bar riser with grab bar and reinforced tunel. Engine is stock, reliability is most and formost for me. I'll be riding this one till the house is paid for! I bought a 141 X 2" from a guy on an other site, but UPS seems to have lost it. They say they'll pay up but I'd rather have the track.

Actually, the PSI has been fairly reliable, after we finally got it set up. It is expensive to run, amsoil, race gas. My son did burn down one piston last year, cost almost $500 for piston and re sleaving cylinder. A high performance engine will never be as reliable as an OEM, but an OEM will never give you the feeling of cracking the throttle on a HIPO engine. My 800 is about 155 HP, my XLT 125 HP and the PSI is about 195 HP. Track length should be determined based upon type of riding and type of snow, where I live we have very dry powder snow and I only ride in the mountains. That is the reason for all long tracks.

I ride a 97 ZR 580 EFI. My "adopted" family swears by Arctic Cat and short tracks, so when I got my first sled, I got a short track also because I didn't know any better. We ride at 7000-9000 feet and I wish every day that I had a long track. My "family" has put 2" lug tracks on the shorties, so they do well in the mountains. My next sled is either a 144" or 151" because as far as I'm concerned, the only use for a trail is to get to the good spots to ride. Even then, some of the best spots you make your own trail to get too.

I used to have a Wildcat 700. I have a 2001 Mountain Cat 600 EFI, that I just bought new, that I am going to set up with a few extras for the mountains. This sled was a dealers Demo only had 250 miles on it and they sold it at an auction, where I picked it up for half the price of a new one. Its no 700 or 800 , but it is light and its pretty easy to throw around in the mountains. Besides I won't have to worry about jetting issues. I also ride in Idaho, Oregon, and Washington.

Runnin a 2003 summit 800HO with a 144 track.
Got split second pipes on, Tag T2 bars, makin a custom freestyle seat
and swapping the 144 Sc-10 for a Cat 144 skid with sno pro shoxs
the real snopro shoxs , not the consumer valving.

Also will be running a mod later in teh spring when its construction is done
A 1200 price performance triple putting out 260Hp plus based in a 1999
Zr 500 chassis with a 144 tunnel , puttin a M10 in, lots of light weight parts.
very very trick sled ,its light and should be lightning fast. :cussing:

psycho..have you thought of an expert-x on your mod sled?chubby on the western forum has one in a zr....what a wicked looking sled, also do the cat 144 and sc10 line up similar or do you have to make new brackets and some drilling?

Well I met someone in the are to go out to MT with. They usually go out twice a year and I want a new sled anyway so next summer i'm planning to build a zr800 with 136" fabcraft tunnel and xpert x skid. I plan to run a 1.25" around here and a 2" inch when I go out west. Will a 136" with a 2" be enough to get me around I weigh around 220.

I streched out my 00 Formulalll 800 to a 136 with a 1 1/2 Cat/Camoplast oem fully clipped track. Also triple piped it for 160 h.p. stock. Wow! What a snow blower!
It goes thru deep snow and climbs hills like no 121 I ever had! Cant imagine what it would be like with a 144 or 151 like a real mountain sled.

Zrt for now, i'm thinking of buying a deepsnow sled next year.

What about getting a 136" extension for my sled, is that a good idea?

Looks like me and the long track fizzer one more year. Its fun, but not like a 2003 summit X 144" . I'll keep dreaming. Anyway, the fizzer has plastic skiis, sx piston kit, cold air kit, aaen pipe. Dropped the rear suspension 2" and changed the attack angle of the track. I havn't weighed it, but dry weight should be just under 400lbs it had to go on a diet because i won't. Rider weighs 200.

OMOTM
10-11-2002, 04:51 PM
How about a picture there, obimonte. Under 400 lbs is a very light sled, you must have a lot of light weight stuff on it.

obimonte
10-11-2002, 05:23 PM
Yammi fizzers are only like 430 to start with. Only added a few light weight parts. Mostly just removed unnecessary items. It still looks the same. I would love to post a pick but I havn't the means to do so. Sorry :( It's real easy to take off wt with skiis and pipe, remember old metal skiis. elliminate some scap metal from under the hood(there is alot if you know where to look) and when I reangled the suspension I was able to get rid of one set of upper wheels and the shaft. It all adds up. I wish I had a 120lb girlfriend to ride it. I think it would go almost anywhere. OK, I just wish I had a girlfriend

LOL, I understand. Not about the GF (been married 30 years), but about losing the weight.

Heres my ride, I completely rebuilt it from the ground up this summer. Its been dynoed at 240 hp With 169 ft lbs torque, I did some engine mods and should have picked 5-8 hp, its a 1200 Genisis, the chassies is a Holtz, the unit weighs about 460 without gas. Looking forward to this winter.

I don't have a sled just for the mountains :( but I've been able to go where I want to (within reason) with stock short tracks. I've been to the top of Lionshead near West Yellowstone, MT with a 97 Mach 1 before, but the MXZ is by far a better ride than any of my Mach's. This year we'll see how the REV 800 works out. I think I'll either have to remove or trim the snow flap so it can clean out decently in deep snow. :D

Wow, that'd be a good profit if I could build a couple sleds and find a buyer.

Hey all,

I just joined the forum today and after looking at the stuck pics and the sled pics I'm dying for snow....

I bought my first sled this year (2001 Summit 151 track) and well the guys I'm going to be riding with are probably going to kill me, get me stuck, and no doubt give me a season of good hearted grief...

I'm in Colorado and looking forward to it. Any other riders here from CO that wouldn't mind hanging with a newbie?

I have snow bungee's :D

Well, I just bought my first "mountain" sled this summer in the middle of July in 100+ degree heat. I always shop in the off season, because things seem to be cheaper that way, and people like to unload stuff fast when they are moving to places that have NO SNOW. Anyway, it's a '96 XCR 600. It just had a long track kit put on it less than 500 miles ago, 133.5" with 1.5" paddles. It came with Polaris "powder" skis, new carbides, aftermarket windshield, the original skis, 2 gallons of oil, cover.........no damage anywhere, and has 2816 miles on the speedo. I couldn't pass it up for $1600. Boy does that triple engine sound purdy! Anyway, it should get me into my getta way in the Central Idaho mountains without any trouble. Hopefully it will last me a few years until I can afford to buy a new machine, when I get out of college.
