: 2007 Sw Stateside Ride For Charity
jtkennedy9 10-30-2006, 06:41 PM Brian, too bad you had to "break" away from the pack. Made for an interesting day though. Had a lot of fun. :D

puree 10-30-2006, 08:48 PM ouch,,,, actually, the day I was referring to was the day I rode ahead and took the video,,, and if my memory is correct, I made that entire day.
As for my hour break day, I still throw thanks to the kid for running me back in town for parts,,, and also thank the group for the help,,, I had looked that thing over many times and overlooked that little ball that was missing that cost me about 1000$,,,, really glad Keith found that one.
Now Dave, tell me we didnt have fun that day,,, the trip from reds back into Newberry where we met with Jeff and Brian was worth it in itself,,,
God I can't stand waiting!
snow4mydooplz 11-01-2006, 07:41 AM After spending the day with some S.W. members  I can wait to get on this ride !!! I know after next weekend with even more member meeting and going to the snowshow in Novi I will be even more excited for this trip !!! I have been looking forward to this trip for ever! I have never riden with more than 4 people  [/b]  Mike, looking forward to meeting you and Jen.. :)

I will be taking everybody I mean everyone to The Chatam Ice caves That is gonna
be one heck of a S.W. train! w00t This will be our group ride!
crnsuperduty 11-01-2006, 12:06 PM OK the tally is in and I will deffinatly need to ride along with someone if I am going to get to go. I can drive to meet someone as long as there is somewhere to leave my truck and trailer.
What kind of sharing costs is normal for a trip like this? Last year was nice. I just kept Brian and Dave drunk and stopped every 50 miles for fuel adn had them pay to fill it up. They still wonder why that thing is so bad on fuel.
I made about $700 after all costs for the ride. Thanks guys.
I can still do the drive and pull someones trailer thing but can't afford to make the trip in my truck alone so that is an option as well.
If anyone has an empty spot on a trailer for sure please let me know as I would love to go have some fun with you guys....
Keith Heather will not be going. I was unable to get a sled for her this year so she will be staying home...its MY vacation anyway!
[/b]
If I can get my SH#$ together and make this trip happen you could ride with us. We have a 4 place trailer. If we go, it would just be the wife and I and maybe 1 other person.

Well get your "SH#$" together! That would be awesome! I wish I had a four place trailer or bigger and could just take a crew with me and share fuel costs. I have some dramma right now though with my truck that may not be fixed until next summer so I think I am hit for the winter.
Just trying to get enough for that week up there.
Hey with that said...I said this last year as well,
What is your budget for that week? Not anyone in particular I am asking anyone...what is your travel and everything budget for a week of sleding?

Anybody know what the deal is on when we can get there and how much BEFORE the ride?
I was thinking I could leave on Friday to go up as far as time wise and be there that weekend and then that week leaving on friday or saturday. Just curious what others are doing.
Pie in the sky I would be there from now till march but that can't happen either.
I might just have to move up there!

Also I heard a rumor that danweiser and skidoomatt made a few jumps with the bobcat this summer on the other 10 acres

When and where to send the money and what cabins that are asighned? :)
idooski 11-11-2006, 12:06 PM We'll be discussing that in the next few weeks. Here are our thoughts for now...We would like to start collecting money mid December through the first of the year. There is also going to be a slight price increase over what is posted in the first post. Cabin assignments will come late December early January as well. And will be tied into timely payment for lodging. We will be posting deadlines in the next 2 - 3 weeks.
Any other questions/suggestions?

Idooski. Thank you for the info. Just curious on the slight price increase. Do you have an any idea on how much the increase would be. Just so I can tell my brother Darin. that way if we need to save up more for this ride. we can start now. And thank you again for the info. If I'm being a pest about it. SORRY. I don't mean to be. Hey what are you guys looking forward to the most?
Personaly I like the time we spend chit chatting and on the trailside just shooting the shhhhhhhtuff....
Watching rollerdoo slide around a corner and wash all the snow away is pretty cool too.
What things are you guys looking forward to doing? Like...down here there is not much "boondocking" to be done so I want to go one day and play in the deep stuff. I really want to if jawonch is gonna be there. If you guys have not seen this kid ride you are missing out. I like seeing the sites too. It was pretty cool the once I got to ride with Idooski and he took us to this really cool bridge that looked neat. I don't have a camera but if I did it would be in use alot.
I guess for me it is the whole thing. I love hanging out but mostly hanging ON!
I can't wait...
I still have to get my sled to Kieth for him to make sure she is still running right. I have to replace my sliders and I think tunnel protectors. I might have a wheel bearing bad too in there. Grease her up and pull the cord after that I think. There might be more to it though as it is idling strange all a sudden this year.
Anyway enough for now...I can't wait for the trip!
Dave... are you driving over the bridge or me?

mxzwfo 11-17-2006, 07:04 PM The fund raising is coming along. We made a lot of good contacts at the Novi Snow Show and we will be following up on them in the next few weeks. We still need everybody to help out as much as they can with getting donations from thier local dealers and ECT...
I need to know of any donations thus far from everybody. If they have a logo or web site, we will need that info along with what they donated. Corey is going to build a rotating "donators" banner on the front page and I would like to see that banner on the ride events section as well.
PM me with any of this information.
Thanks for everybody's help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

snow prowler 11-22-2006, 11:09 PM  Who's ready for this ride? :whistling:
[/b] I AM, I AM. I'M READY :!:
I like basic black. You can tell by looking at my trucks, sleds and even my bass boat. :D
[/b] I am partial to black also. [ with red lettering. ] Just a thought. Any color will do.

What about pink with black letters?
kidding......
OK how about black with pink letters and SW down one arm while on the left have the pink ribbon?
This will remind us for many years what we can do when we came together for a good cause.
I am for the red myself as it matches my sled.
I am taking orders for anyone that wants a pink mohawk for the ride as well.

thought you were selling the sled
I like the red idea but am pretty open. I do not get into the pink shirt though (or any combination of)vwont get one, sorry. Now putting the pink ribbon on I am all for.
snowmutt 11-25-2006, 11:06 AM I like the idea of the pink ribbon symbol on the arm. But I have a ?.. are we limited on the number of differant colors per shirt?
LOOKS like everyone wants a blk shirt so.. how about blk shirt ,red SW logo, a pink ribbon on the arm and the other stuff in white(sponsors)?
A dark gray would be ok too for the shirt color, no brian not the ohio gray :slick: . I know the shirt color should be a darker color so it dosen show the dirt and stains over time.
Really it wont matter to me im buying one, not for the looks but for the cause and what it stands for.
Showing people im part of the SW family and WE care

puree 11-25-2006, 01:20 PM I have to agree with the black shirt,,, it looks like that is the color the majority is wanting. As for the color of the logo and all,,,, I am not a fond one of pink,,, but we are riding for the cause. My vote will stick with pink writing and the sponsors in white on the back. I also like the snowmobileworld name on the sleeve idea.
I guess my thought on the pink would be "this is a ride for charity" We are coming together as a group to have a great time,,, the reason we are together is "charity".
Honestly, it doesnt matter what color Jeff ends up going with,,, I will definetly take one, and possibly take 2. Surprise us with a nice looking shirt to commemorate our ride Jeff.
mxzwfo 11-25-2006, 01:24 PM It takes a real man to wear pink!

puree 11-26-2006, 08:23 PM I think the reason Jeff was asking about changing things up is because we have went with black with orange the past 2 years,,,, I like them also,,,, so as I said before,,,, Jeff, work your magic and we will be happy,,,,
docrmk 11-27-2006, 12:53 AM Not to interrupt the conversation but.............Whats the riding elevation on the ride and is there accomaditions in the area........just kicking around some ideas.............thanks

That's the very reason. We also did the last two Canada ride shirts in orange and black. Wanted to do something different this year. I've got no problem with black shirts and pink screen print. Is this what everybody wants?

puree 11-27-2006, 08:30 PM docrmk I am not sure of the elevation there, but I know its lower than your used to riding in. As for accomidations, we have the entire camp set aside to our group as well as a hotel or two in town that are being set up for overflow if needed.
As for the shirt color,,, make that 2 votes for Jeffs choice.

I wasn't joking about the drag strip being set up, but with all that Digger has been through this summer, it may not happen. It's up to him. He says that most guys drag down the road next to him that the trail from the camp dumps out on.
Yep, the raffle in on Friday night.

Digger says --
"Quite a bit more snow today. Now a little bit of sun would help it pack a bit. My back yard is 8" after settling a lot. With the temps expected this should be a keeper until spring! I have cleaned about 14" off my truck so far!"
Is that a little closer to where we are riding Dave???? Sheeesh, you must need some snow bad, eh?

Absolutely!
labudda 12-05-2006, 08:22 PM I have seen tons of moose tracks near paradise and my dad has seen one. Heard a wolf howl 4 years ago around 11pm in the fall. This was when the DNR said that wolves did not exist in the UP.
Deer i doubt... they tend to migrate a bit more south and east from what I know of them (stay outta the deep stuff). Usually start in late october. locals may differ in opinion but from my limited tracking experience around paradise that is what I have found.

S4, we for the most part break up into groups with different destinations each day. We allways have a group that goes out just to play in the deep stuff and a group of WOT'ers and a group of slower riders that want to just take in the scenery. You are also able to go do what ever you want as well..pretty easy and allways open for suggestions...

JasonF 12-05-2006, 11:56 PM S4, you volunteering to lead the WOT group

JasonF 12-06-2006, 07:09 PM Tons of deer SE of Diggers place, I couldn't believe how many we seen on the RTYP trip last season when we where riding through there. Seemed like we were slowing down every couple miles to let them cross.
We also spotted a wolf two seasons ago just off the trail between Seney and Grand Marais. Stupid me tried to cut through a clearing to cut it off and get a picture but ended up riding into a ravine and getting stuck. The wolf just looked my way and kept running off into the woods

I can't tell you how sick I am to say what I am about to say.
I am not going to be able to make the ride this year. I have a court date set for Monday of that week and cannot get it changed. I also have surgery on that Wednesday but can change that...however there is no reason to if I am going to be here anyway so I am just going to stay home and take care of things.
Thanks so much to everyone for being so helpful in planning this.
Dave... I was looking forward to our ride up there and watching you squirm going over the bridge. I am sorry I let ya down buddy.
In all I am sick over this. I really need to sell my sled anyway to be able to meet business goals for this next year. I have no other option that I have found other than doing that. So I guess its best this way so someone can get a nice sled early on and get some play time in this year.
You guys rock and I will be so envious that week and miss you guys a TON!
Kieth thanks for all your devoted friendship and all your work along with the other people here to put these rides together for us. I really wish I could be there to enjoy it.
Thanks again.....

Good question. No we don't have a back-up plan. Who would have thunk that we needed one. It would be very hard to have a second set of dates ready. People have to put in for vacations and such. Not to mention that it would be unfair of us to ask Digger to hold open a second week just in case. I'm just planning on the first plan working! Now get out there in your skivvies and get dancin'!! :D

I would say odds are in our favor, really how could it be possible to go almost two full months with no snow in a snowbelt of the U.P.
Secondly I wouldn't cancel the vacation time because if theres no snow at Jack Pine you can ride with me and whoever wants to come to the nearest Mtn range :D
It will happen, at least I have to keep telling myself this to keep sanity

puree 12-29-2006, 01:00 PM we still have a couple of weeks yet for it to snow,,,, remember, a couple of good lake effect days and they can have more snow there than I would
get in an entire year,,,, so NO MORE NEGATIVE TALK,,, THINK SNOW as snow prowler said,,,,
jawonch 12-29-2006, 02:13 PM I must say that I am getting a little nervous about the snow issue. We normally don’t get most of our snow until about January, with the most snow base in February, so this ride is going to be cutting it close. I have lived in the U.P. all my life (Gwinn, MI 49841) so I know what a normal winter is around here. Today (12-29-06) it’s about 2:00 P.M. and we are finally getting some snow, nothing big but enough to cover the ground.
I usually don’t start riding until I can’t see the water well pipe in the front yard, which is 15 inches tall. This year we already had about 12 inches of snow for a couple of days, but all the rain took that out.
The forecast doesn’t call for any big storms coming our way in the next week. Anyone want to go to Colorado and ride, LOL. Unlimited powder. :D
jawonch 12-29-2006, 04:41 PM Good news, we are getting some decent snow now, should have about 4 inches by tonight. Roads are crappy and all is great. HURRAY
I live about an hour from where we plan on riding, so hopefully they are getting the same.

3 inches of snow? Not a good idea to ride on, trial or off trail, unless you don’t like your sled that much.

lol, oh I get it now. I must say though that I used to ride with that much snow when I was young and impatient, back when I rode the old old sleds. I would break bogie wheels and all kinds of stuff, lol, it was a good time though.
Anyway, don’t mean to "rain" on anyone’s parade, but that’s all we have had today, RAIN. Rain, rain, go away and let the snow come back today. So in my area we lost most of our snow. We have a lot of ice though......
But like that picture says, when the temp is right we can get a foot in a couple of hours.

although we are still way ahead of ourselves, take a look at the 17th temps now......going back in the right direction.
Hopefully we can all do this >>>>[attachment=32124:snowfall.gif]

JasonF 01-06-2007, 12:27 AM Don't forget he also stated that very heavy lake effect measured in feet is possible for the 11-15 day outlook w00t . Perfect timing for the ride, maybe well have to stay a couple extra days due to only emergency vehicle being allowed on the roads
Jack Frost 01-06-2007, 07:23 AM We still need the ground to freeze up, last week there was standing water everywhere. Now bring on the snow!!!!! I can't wait for this ride

The ground is still frozen up there. Just the very swampy areas are still a little wet.

I ended up abandoning my 4wd truck right in the middle of M-43 during that storm.

Do you think it would bother me if they declared a snow emergency when im on the north side of the bridge? NOT!! bring it on baby!!!!. Man I would love to be traped in the yopper due to snow
Back in 01 when there was that blizzard over the lower we rode right through flint. Even stopped for a bite to eat just like we do up north  . Man we need another storm like that, just to watch all the summer lovers whine and me out dancing with a grin from ear to ear :D

snowmutt 01-06-2007, 11:44 AM I have a few ?'s about the ride . Im off till the ride is over so im going to be gathering things up to go. One thing im trying get a idea of is how much oil I should have for the wk with running 2 sleds. The oil I use I can only get here in flint or in marquette, or anyone that does sell phillips66 products.
I cant remember just how much we used last yr  .I have 2 gal now and was going to get 3 more this wk. Somthing tells me we used 2 gal for 800 mi on both sleds but thats a guess.
Also I never been west of seney so im going in blind for the area. Is there a gas station right there by diggers or do we need to remember on the way in or out from the rides. I know some places are tucked out in the sticks and they need to ride a ways to the pump( just curious on this one).
DOES digger have trail maps?, could he get us some county maps (those show all the 2 tracks and elevations(swamps)?
Where are the closest dealers in the area? I only know of the doo dealer in curtis that far west.
I guess most of this is just minior thought of curiosity other than the oil thing . I just want to be all set when I get there to focus on just riding and having a great time with my SW family.
YOU know how we get when your all pumped.. the ?'s you think of

idooski 01-06-2007, 11:45 AM More than half the people going on this ride are still unpaid. Today is the 6th and the money was to be in to me by the 10th. If there is a problem getting me the money on time, please contact me ASAP!! If you feel uncomfortable sending me the money, there is no need. Many on here know me personally and I am posting here as the money is received. Everyone knows that I have it and too many people know where I live.
I'm not even going to cash the checks until I am sure that there is going to be snow. Then I am going to write a check to Digger so he will be all paid up when we get there. We have put a lot of work into this ride this year and I want my work to be done when we leave for the ride. I do not want to be collecting money after we get there.
All money must be paid before arrival at the Jack Pine!!! NO BULL!! :D
