92 xlt 600 will win in a long race, because its a triple, if your gonig only 5-600 feet, the zr will have it. im not really "into" drag racing so i dont know exactly where the xlt will start to takeover, but it will.

Correct me if I am wrong with actual specs but I don't think that old Polaris triple was pumping out nearly as much hp as the 600 Cat twin.

A friend of mine had an XLT. He said my ZR 600 (after being studded with 144) is faster. We didn't have both sleds at the same time, so we didn't race them. The ZR600 EFI would be just as fast. In a hayfield "grassdrag" most of those drags are 500 feet. The ZR would probably win.

I have a 2000 ZR but the 1998 wouldn't be that much slower.

Post the same question in the polaris forum... i am sure you will get a different pole.... hahaha... however my money is on the 600

Don't count out the Long Track 500 in a short distance. He will get a much better hole shot with that much more track on the ground.

the XLT 600 will not take over in a drag race over a newer 600 in any distance unless modified. a couple friends of mine one with a 95 XLT and the other with a 97 ZR 440 both bone stock in a long race the XLT will get the jump surprisingly enough but on top end the ZR 440 is slightly maybe 2 mph faster both the 97 ZR 440 and the XLT are at about 90 hp the ZR takes over cause its lighter

the point being my ZR 580 will even eat the ZR 440 for lunch in the right conditions and the 600 will smoke that especially with the advanced timing my money is on the ZR 600

The older XLT was fast. I raced one with my Wildcat back then. I beat it but he was right behind me all the way up to 100mph.
That was then, this is now. The '98 ZR would win.

No offense but the old 700 twin in the Wildcat didn't have squat for hp. Maybe around 90-95 hp?

My $ is on the ZR. If my big TT600 always walked away from a 96xcr the 98 600 should have no problem taking it all. ;)

No offense taken but where do you get your numbers? "Published" was always 110-115. Now maybe that was a bit inflated but I highly doubt actual numbers were that low.

Does anyone know the HP on a 650 wildcat?? not sure what year, but deff. early 90's. Also, my MXZ 600, and PRO X 600 would take it right?? the wildcat has got twin pipes.

I know this is a cat thread but, to help matters out.

I raced an xlt 600 (50) with 2400 miles last winter and I had 4000 on my 1999 mxz 600. both picked. we had my buddy stand in between us and drop his arms. I took him out of the whole and hit 72-74 in 500 feet and he was 2-3 sleds behind me.

So i totalley believe the cat 600 would spank the xlt. I believe his was a 650 ( or something in that next of the woods, was bigger than a 600 but less than 700)

Are you serious? No way will a zr 440 top out higher than an XLT. I try to stay out of these goofy arguements but that is just too much... If your buddy has this 440 still tell him to hang on to it and come to mid michigan, if he beats any of the XLT's here on the lake i'll pay for his gas to get here and back as well as a full tank... Unless thaat 440 is a race sled yer dreamin bro...

As for the race in question I have a few questions, do 2 strokes have timing chains? why would a mountain sled only have a 1" track? is anyone seriously argueing for the old 440 in this? Who will win, well that all depends on the alignment of the stars the night you do it.

In a 500-600 foot drag race if the 440 was clutched properly it would win. The 440 running at a higher rpm have the advantage. My buddy had a 02 mxzx 440 and he was beating my 98 583 and buddies 2000 xc 700 and a 03 pro x 700 in 600 feet.

a zr 440 with 90hp  i would like to see that one.. i think they are rated around 56hp.. there is a slight chance it might beat the xlt within the first 25-50ft of take off but thats about it.

I can speak for both sled's ...the Zr and the Xlt. Well I have a Zl but same diffrence.

Stock the Zr would win...but do so much as breath on the trippel and the Cat won't have a chance. I though my bought my Cat thinking it should have been faster than a mildly worked over Xlt.....WRONG. But hit the winding trails and the Xlt will fly off the trail long before the cat even looses control.
