: Time To Start All Over
poor farmer/logger 09-29-2007, 09:50 AM Was out late last night with the combine. Got a decent start on our wheat yesterday. The header works real good where the grain is not real heavy and not laying down. But if it's laying real close to the ground or 5' tall it doesn't work to good. As soon as you put the header close to the ground it wants to bull doze dirt. It's also a little tricky getting into th semi with it. The auger on our combine isn't quite long enough to just pull in along side and dump, you have to pull in the back in a little bit to get into the right spot. Not a teribly bit deal though.
These are the months that I don't look forward too. I don't like it when the sun doesn't come up till 9:00 in the morning and it's dark at 5:00. Doesn't leave much time to get things done at all.
Well, the only thing is you might get some strange looks and lots of questions.
I'm not sure why but sleeding seems to be a phase that kind of comes and goeos with people. For a while there you could hardly give a sled away now people are starting to buy them again. It wasn't all because of bad winters either I don't think. Back in the early 80tys eveyone had a sled around here. Of course you could go and buy a brand new sled for 1500 bucks too. I know myself I'm not into snowmobiling as much as when I was in school. From about gr.4-12 every art work project, essay, and speach was pretty much about snowmobiles or snowmobiling. Even poems that I had to write in school. Teachers never really got sick of it but it wasn't hard to pick out my work from the others. If it had a snowmobile on it you could bet that it was mine. :D
Ryan
Rick K 09-29-2007, 10:59 AM Ok explain the difference between straight cut and swathing first...I have often asked myself why don't the farmers use that type of header....and cut out the swather...just a question... :withstupid:
so you have a dozer slash combine... :lmao: I here you Ryan it becomes depressing make sure you take vitamin D ..
when we built the winter road into Tadoule the sun would come up 9:15 set 3:30 it was dusk unreal...it was neat the first few time but after sometime it got to you..or me.. w00t
I do already... I remember one time Claudette & myself went to Vegas it was 55 out some lady walking down the strip in a fur coat and me in my shorts she looked at me thing I was nuts & I looked at here like she was nuts to funny to see us...I used to go out to the wood stove in shorts it was the talk of the town for sometime they though I was a polar bear...just maybe part that's all...
yes I wish you still could Ryan..they are getting big again around here...just like quads...
once you start to slow down and you still want to keep busy you will get back into it more that's what I found...Michael was playing hockey and I was coaching after he move on and I stopped coaching I was lost looking for something to do...guess what I seen some sleds and boom that's when we started again....now I just can't wait to get going I love it...just like a little kid...with a new toy...hence the point I always say I never grew up my sand box just got bigger... :lmao:
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 09-29-2007, 09:26 PM Straight cut you just go at er. The disadvantage is you have to wait for the crop to mature to the point where it can be combined. Swathing you can get it quicker sometimes if you have heat to go with it. You can swath a crop that is still a little bit on the green side and within 4 or 5 days with good heat it can be ready to combine. That's the advantage to swathing. Most people desecate (sp???)(spray) their crops before they straight cut. Ther are times though were you can't straight cut like if it's laying down real bad. Some headers will do it but some wont. The header that will do it is worth about 3 times as much as our combine so needless to say we don't have one of them at all.
Dozer/combine. spreader cause it spreads the dirt out the chopper. :D I tell ya it's a all in one machine just to bad it wouldn't hold together doing that.
That's just crazzy. I remember when I was going to school on the bus, it would be just daylight enough to see when we got to school at about 8:40. I got home around 4:00 from school and within half a hour it was starting to get dark. Sure didn't leave much time to play at all.
Prices now have sure skyrocketed on sleds. All toys for that matter of fact. We looked at some boats this summer and they were up around 70,000. They say now you can finace those boats over 30 years.
With me right now I like to get new equipment to play with. Not brand new of course but something different. I'd be in heaven now if I could get a track hoe and do some ditching. :D I've always like running equipment. I like to mix things up a littel bit though. Gets kind of sickening doing the same thign over and over again day after day. Got a small ditching project on the go right now that I've been doing with the skidder when we cant do anything else and it's dry enough to do that. Trying to get out dug out drained down some so it doesn't back up. Got to make a ditch about 3' deep and about 150' long tapering off into the bottom of another slew. I'm a little over half way now.
Ryan
Rick K 09-30-2007, 12:26 AM wow very interesting Ryan thanks for telling me often wondered why ......
they can call it comdoz or dozcom...yes the farm equipment is not made like the construction stuff eh....but lately some of the heavy stuff is getting so cheap you start to wonder...
that's crazy eh 30 years...
I here you on the equipment it would be nice just to have a few pieces lying around just to play with do a few little jobs around the yard like ditching & some leveling etc...I did just have the 450 lgp at home did a little leveling for Rob's boats this winter.....your project is bigger then the one I had to do...
them hoe's are coming down big time a nice little 320 cat with a wrist would be nice to have with a little D-5-H LGP 6 way blade High Drive..then tackle a little drainage project.....
I would not mind a nice little skid steer track type...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-06-2007, 07:24 PM Hi Rick, sory for not posting sooner. Been awfull busy here this last week. It's been a steady go around here. We're just about done though. We've got about 60 ac. left to do. I got on the combine yesterday at 9:30 in the morning and pretty much didn't get off till 4:00 this morning. I covered a fair bit of ground though and got a bunch done before the rain. It's been a real heavy mist here off and on all day. I got my crop all off and the money is allready spend. I had to go out and buy a new grain bin. I didn't want to put it on the ground so I finally broke down and got them to bring one out so the profit for this years crop is allready gone plus a bit probably. Needless to say I don't think there'll be a toyota in the works this year. My crop wasn't as good as I was hoping either. It wasn't a complete disaster but it wasn't real good either.
The header worked our really good for us. Saved a bunch of expens plus it made it go faster. I've got a few pics that I'll try and get up latter.
No more work done on my ditching project yet. Got a drive line off the skidder right now anyways. Waiting for parts to put it back together. A u joint was going out on the winch and it's a special order u joint.
Them 2 pieces would go just perfect here. Should have a scraper though too, to stip top soil and lay it back on again.
We sure like ours, use it lots around here that's for sure. Tracks would be nice because they're not that great in snow and mud at all.
They were talking of a chance of snow here tonight but I think they lifted that now. It was snowing in La Ronge the other night though.
Ryan
Rick K 10-06-2007, 09:49 PM Sort of thought that Ryan you guys where giving her tar paper...yes we have it now the misty rain...that's a good run eh..well you got it off that is good though...good show so are you guys looking at buying it now...
everything is special Oder now a days ....nobody stocks anything...
hey hey you said you would ship the snow this way ....what's up with that...snow sweet..
well one week after this Tuesday of training left going good they will be place on the floodway project for 250 plus hours then if the companies like them they will keep them...time will tell how many make it...some will some will not...
we might go for a ride tomorrow Claudette & myself...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-07-2007, 12:40 PM Sure made for a long day though. When I started out there was still some frost on my standing wheat and it didn't want to even feed into the combine. Within a couple of hours though it was going good again. Early in the morning it actually rained on me as well. But it wasn't enough to shut me down thankfully.
Do you mean the header? If so we bought it when we picked it up. Il'd like to buy the combine too but I just don't have enough money this year I don't think. It's not a huge amount of cash by any means but I don't like to go to deep into debt.
Didn't get any snow so no need to wory yet. lol.. Hopefully the rain and snow stays away so we can get dad's flax off. There's a fair bit of money siting out there in that field so we need to get it off.
It's to bad that they all wouldn't take the oportunity and go to work. Some is better then none though I guess.
Hope you guys get out for a ride. I might go out for a while today. Not to sure yet. Just got back from the neibours, we went over there to get our dog. He goes over there to visit every once in a while. Of course we had to go in for coffe and visit for a while. That's okay though, we go over there a fair bit and visit with them.
Ryan
Rick K 10-07-2007, 02:10 PM yes I did mean the header Ryan....yes hope you guys get it all off before the snow flies...well we are doing yard work so I don't think we will get out... maybe tomorrow though...well maybe a little nfl football too and I will be going to the gym today because it is close tomorrow...
sure is nice to have a long weekend need the break just getting pooped out....always something to do around here... :bash:
there is so much work here it is nuts if you don't have a job you are just lazy that is that they can't find enough people... w00t
we went picked up the pictures we got new frames put on them boy that sure is not cheap...then I have property taxes then the Nytro boy do you have any money lying around ha ha...seems like every time you turn around you are taking money out of your pocket...done with the vent ha ha... :!:
here are a few pictures of the new frames..we have to put them up now....

poor farmer/logger 10-07-2007, 07:35 PM Managed to get out for a pretty good ride this afternoon. We had to change a water pump on the swather before we brought it home so I drove my quad up to the quarter of land that it was on fixed it up and took off from there. Didn't put on all that teribly many kms but I was gone for 2 hours. Had some fun up in the sand dunes then took off on some other trails that I hadn't been on before at all. Even managed to get lost once. :lmao: . I was driving in the bush where I thought a road should be, it was all that spongy moss so I left no tracks when I came in at all. I did spin the tires on the corners though so I could see where I had gone. I just shut my bike off and started walking till I found where I was suposed to be. Never got out of eye sight though either of my bike. Turned out I had driven right up to the right spot but it didn't look right, there were a bunch of trees down that I had driven around some how and couldn't see where. Didn't take long to get back on track again but it's not a good feeling for that little bit of time when you're siting there not to sure where to go.
Are you still working on the park?
I here you on the bills coming in. It's a bad time of the year for me now because my input bills come due in Oct. Got to go see my banker so I can borrow enough to pay them off because there's not much hope of hauling grain out now at all.
Are they catching up to Ab. wages yet?
Pictures look good Rick, you're getting quite a collection of them now.
Ryan
Rick K 10-08-2007, 01:17 PM glad someone did Ryan we did not... and not today either it is raining most of the night and still is....I wish we could get out soon....
good thing you did not get lost eh...
yes the park is still under construction did do some work on it this summer but not that much...next year we will get some more work done on it...
yes they do eh it's nuts some days...I'm having a problem do I want a sea can for storage or do I want a enclosed trailer for the sleds and quads...I was thinking of selling our wood trailer because we are not going to use it anymore it was used once or twice that's it...I even put L.E.D. light in it..I just can't see us using it anymore....it going to sit out back and sit & sit ...I should just sell it ...I was thinking of horse trading a guy that has sea cans for the trailer....but have you seen them new trailers that cover over your sleds ....aluminum but they want 7 to 8 k for them .....that is nuts it not worth it in my eyes...
I was hoping to get up to Churchill this fall with work but it does not look like it will happen I would be buying lot's of art work them .....they have some real cool stuff up there...I love that type of art work...
well sure glad we had a long weekend I needed to recharge my batteries fell better ....all that exercise is paying of too...I have lost 60 lbs so far boy do I feel good...blood sugar has been great...I think I have everything under control...I have some way to go but I'm going in the right direction this time...I should find a big difference riding this winter I hope so...anyway...
I'm back into my old ways of weight lifting getting some shape and size again
we will never be at Alberta wages we are a water and dirt province they are a oil province...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-11-2007, 03:37 PM You guys had better go prettys soon or it'll be to cold to go.
Trying to push this weather systom out your way but it's pretty stuborn. :D It's snowing here off and on. Sure is cold and wet out.
Well, the 2007 harvest is finally complete. Finished up the flax yesterday afternoon. Not without some trouble though. The crop this time though not the combine. If flax isn't just right it wont go threw our combine. I wraped up the front feeder house twice and dad did it once. Only differance was I stoped before it go to bad. Dad didn't realise it and kept on till the header stoped. It's all done though so it's kind of a good feeling.
I had my cell phone with so I could call mom and dad and let them know so they wouldn't wonder what had hapend if I did get lost. The bad part was it was starting to get dark. If it had I think I would've just shut my bike off and camped out. To easy to get turned around in the bush in the dark.
I don't know what the answer is there at all. I need to get a two place sled trailer now that we've got the two quads. Been debating over wether to build one or buy one. The one that I want is around 3,000. That's pretty expensive for just a two place sled trailer. It's made by a company in Sk. and I know it's built good though. Might just build one like it, I don't know yet.
I bet there's quite a bit of that stuff the further north you go. Must take allot of patience and work to get it the way they want it.
It's good to get a break and relax for a bit. Haven't been able to do that to much here lately. Even when it rains we've usually got something to do.
You'll be lifting as much as the smilley face pretty soon. :D
I never did do much weight lifting at all. I used to do some when our class would go somewhere that had a weight set. My friends were surprised that I could lift as much or more then them because they were working out all the time. I was up around 160-175 lbs threw school.
Was going to post a couple of pics but dad wants to go cut down a tree on our quarter of land with bush on it that has died out. Maybe tonight if I get some time.
Ryan
Rick K 10-11-2007, 07:49 PM No kidding Ryan maybe this weekend ha ha....
it has not come here yet what are you doing waiting .....
Great show way to go I bet you guys are happy eh...
I here you on that you can get lost in the bush no problem in the dark eh...
yes you got it...ha ha...
sounds like you guys are getting lot's done before the snow flies eh ...
well Tuesday class is done for this one then up north to the dam dam to put out a few fires and maybe pick up some more art work ...
I think we might go see if Troy has my sled together we have a recall on the Phazer some bolt on the front end they say not to ride it....it is raining and wet here ...went to the doc's today my back doctor he said your getting skinny I started to laugh and said do you need glasses...I now he was trying to give me some words of encouragement...no my heavy weight lifting days are over I spent many years training to compete but I came close but did not .. had a melt down burnt out.....I was strong like bull used to bench well over 400 lbs even when I was in my early 30's the shoulders took a beating from all them heavy weights ...I built my own gym...I just like to get into shape with a little size with good shape to it too...it's a long way ....away...if you now what I mean..
Talking with Glen the other day it was snowing up in Ashern he wants to go sledding in Montana this winter plus I would love to go east and ride with the people on this web page sounds like that would be a blast with them...time will tell...
glad you guys got the crops off what about field work are you guys going to do any or just do it next year...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-13-2007, 09:31 PM It took off from here so it had to have gone somewhere. Now we're getting the same weather system again. No snow yet though. Just really cold and really wet.
Yea it felt pretty good to finish up. I said to myself 10 more feet to go and I'll be done for another year. Most have still got some to do. Some lots some are just about done.
Yes, it's not to hard to do. No moonlight or nothing to go by so I figured I'd be better off just sitign on my quad. Bush was heavy enough that I couldn't have even seen the northenr star. Everything was all moss so that was no help either.
Trying to get as much done as we can anyways. I'm hopping to get some logging in before it comes too but I don't know how it's going to work out yet for sure.
Sounds like you definatley want to get it fixed up. Doesn't cost nothing anywas so may as well get it doen so she's ready for when the snow flies.
Wow ehh you were really into it before ehh. 400 lbs is a little bit more then I ever want to be lifting I think.
Would be fun to go riding with some other members on here that's for sure. See some different areas for a change. Just a bit to far for me though. You allot closer but even you've got a pretty good little drive to get there.
Going to try and do some more fall work yet. Mostly just to get rid of all of the ruts we've made the last few years. It's finally dried up enough that a person can get in and work up some of the slews and wet spots.
Went to a auction today. Bid on a 2002 Toyota tundra today but I didn't go high enough to buy it. It sold for 8000 and I bid it up to 6000. It was only 2wd and it had been writen off at one point and time. it had also come from the states.
Ryan
Rick K 10-14-2007, 10:49 AM Yesterday was just unreal no wind and they say it's going to be nice most of the week...it finally stopped raining...
I bet you did like to get it off that is for sure eh...we have lot's of hunter around plucking the odd duck or two...
I did that one time around here on the sled out on the farmers field got twisted up had to find a place or land mark to get my bearings to get home..
we hope to get down that way this winter and do some riding with some members...it's still a long ride to go to do that....even for us..
I have seen some real nasty ruts in some fields darn near get stuck in them with a Quad...
Be very carful buying used go can run a history on the unit it will tell you very thing about it how many accidents it's been in if it's been in a flood or a right off etc all on line coast you a few bucks to do it but it's worth it in my eyes...
Claudette & myself went for a long Quad ride just real nice out 4 hour ride after I got back from Troys I took the sleds over for some work on the Phazer plus he had mine together...
now I think I have this right the Nytro I'm taking has the clicker shocks I could take the air shocks but I don't like the looks off them plus that machine has no R..so the RTX has the air shocks which I do not want I want the clicker shocks...plus R so it will be a Nytro FX er with 2 years warranty 400 Yamaha bucks cover and plug in for the heated helmet and a beefy spring in the back end for my boyish figure ha ha..plus skid plate too..Troy took a picture of me on it so I had to put my glasses back on for it...
[attachment=39453:Sled_008.JPG]
see the next one to me that is the RTX fox air shocks but that sled has no R....but that's my new baby anyway...
I might be picking it up next weekend ...
Ryan I was looking at the Yamaha Dealers site up in P.A. nice site they have..
poor farmer/logger 10-14-2007, 03:28 PM Good to hear you guys got out for a good ride. It's nice to just get out and ride around and relax. Still raining here. I guess right now it's kind of let up but still foggy and really gray out. Not very nice out right now at all. Trying to get dad out for a quad ride but I don't know if we're going to go or not for sure.
Been some american hunters up here shouting geese. Walked out one morning and it was just like somone popping pop corn they were firing off so many shots.
I've done that lots out in the fields at night. You start going around a corner or something so many times you head gets turned around on you and you don't know where you're at.
I new some of the history before I got into it. I was expecting to probably spend a few bucks on it but figured for 6 I was pretty safe.
Looks good Rick. Should be fun this winter. Still don't like the looks of that windshield though. :D How did you make out on your RX1 then did the guy ever come up with the money?? Still not ready to give up them shorts yet ehh??lol.. Are those sleds much more then the Phazzer?
They're not a bad dealer. Kind of high on there parts and accesories but I've gotten along not to bad with them. Local farm dealer here just started a new yamaha dealership. I've been gettign some pretty good prices on oil and parts from them. I paid 17 bucks a jug for oil where as I was paying 30 from the other guys.
I'm going to have to go threw the carbs this fall before I run the yamaha. I fired it up the other day and it didn't sound very good. Time to put some money into it I guess. Going to try and do the carbs my self. Might have to buy some tools like a carb sync to get them syncronised again but other then that I shouldn't need to much.
Ryan
Rick K 10-15-2007, 09:06 PM yes it was a nice little ride Ryan hope you and your dad got out for one too...
yes they are just giving it to them around here
that's good
sure hope so Ryan I want snow I will be putting some miles on this winter that's for sure...I will let you now about the windshield...I'm still sitting on it have a few more people asking about it but money is tight for a lot of people...3 to 4 more I think people say the Nytro looks like a Phazer on steroids...I think they may be right...
boy sure is a price difference eh...in the oil
good luck with the carbs ....having the right tools make thing easy that's for sure Ryan.
Talked to my dad to day he called me at work he went to the doctors today the cancer is back he said they gave him 3 to 6 months that just sucks...they can't do nothing...
Rick
poor farmer/logger 10-16-2007, 10:44 PM Well, me and dad got out for about 5 hours. Managed to put on about 30 miles. We were just going slow most of the time and stoped a couple of times to walk around and look around. Found some fire wood that we can take out for this winter. Had a pretty good ride over all though. It was a little cold though. Dad was complaining off and on. I had brought my good snowmobile mits with just incase I got cold hands and he ended up wearing them. He even had his ski doo suit on. He was still a little cold though. I did get a picture from the bottom of that big hill that I was showing you before. Been trying to post some pics but having some problems getting them on here. It gets about half way threw uploading and then it just quits.
I've alwasy thought the new nytro was a newer vs. of the phazzer. I've never looked at the actual spes though to see how they compare. I noticed though that they closed in the back of the tunnel.
It's the kind of thing that I'm a little leary of but hopefully I can get er done myself. Can't afford to pay big shop rates so I haven't got much choice. I'm not that bad of a mechanic but it's something that I have never done before. I've done single carbs before but neber multiple carbs.
I'm very sorry to hear that Rick. That sure is a nasty disease. Hopefully the docs are wrong and he gets some more time then that.
Had a bad afternoon today, took the water pump out of our 4wd tractor. Dad was disking and all of a sudden the tractor shut down. Murphy gauges cut in I guess and shut it down. Heat gauge wasn't up high but it was heating up. Hopefully it didn't hurt anything else. Got the pump off and we're going to get one tomorow.
Ryan
Rick K 10-18-2007, 09:16 AM right on sounds like you had some fun....when the sun goes down it gets cold if your not dressed right eh...I have had my problems too trying to post pictures Ryan...
two different leagues they say the nytro will eat the bumps time will tell1,050 cc vs 498
you can do it....take your time..
thanks Ryan
yes my life has not been nice starting back with my mom... I have been taking negative thing like what happen to me this summer and try to turn them into a positive thing...it sure does build creature that is for sure.
Murphy gauges sure are a good thing in my eyes we had them on the rock drills boy they saved many engines..
Well I'm done this training course of to the dam next week for the week then maybe up the road for some more training time will tell ....I better get going running late have to clean up some paper work...
did you get the e-mail I sent you that is nasty eh...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-18-2007, 10:50 AM We did have some fun so that was the main thing. Dad was wishing that it was a little warmer though. Not to sure what's goign on if it's because of my dial up connection or what. Does get a little iritating though.
Hopefully it's all they say it is and more. They sure are expensive though. All of them now, it's crazzy, Yamaha has a sled that lists out around 18,000 now I think.
Hopefully I can. Haven't got time right now to try and tackle it but hopefully before to long. I'm planing on rebuilding the carbs. All of my rides are pretty short ones so I'm on and off the throttle lots. Got to do the primary clutch too, there though I'm not to sure on what I need for tools. I've got the service manual for the sled though so that helps.
Yes, you've had a very rough year. Keep you head up though, that's about all a guy can do.
Yes, hopefully they saved the engine from self distruction. It still runs good and starts good so hopefully there's no hidden damage. Got the water pump yesterday and got it partially installed. Ran into a problem with one bolt though. I think the threads in the pump are bugered up and I can't thread the bolt in properly. I'm not taking the pump off again though unless I absolutely have to. If worse comes to worse I'm just going to put some washers on it and tighten it in as best I can.
So when you do the training course is that all in the same comapany? Or do you have to switch back and forth.
Yes, I did. That hapend in southern Sk. last summer. Some figured that when the tank was coming down the hill it started going squirly on him and it pushed the whole thing over the bridge. I'm not 100% sure as to what happend. One big expensive mistake though, that's for sure.
Ryan
Rick K 10-19-2007, 08:14 PM Good show it does get cold when the sun goes down or the wind is up eh...yes you can take it off but you can't put it on if you don't have it with you ...they say it should be nice here this weekend hope to get out for another ride...
yes it is nutty for anything today..
you will find the time when the snow comes and the field work is done and you having some spare time...which is hard to find today...that's a big help the service manual...
yes and it's not over yet ...you have to try to keep your head positive that is for sure ....because if you don't it will put you in a huge hole...
they saved many engines on the drill rigs I used to take care of many years ago...boy I'm getting old..ha ha..
it's under the same roof let's say they are very good to me ....I'm off to the dam Tuesday for the week should be interesting this trip...more art work?????
no kidding insurance company would not like that one....big coin eh...
call Troy said did you get the sled skid plate on plus the other thing I wanted done no he said ....so I said call me when you get it done I will be out of town next week Troy...you snooze you lose ...
might be going to pick up my gate tomorrow I built years ago where I used to work it still sitting there so I think I might put it at the end of the driveway soon...time will tell
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-19-2007, 11:53 PM Today was pretty nice out. Did some more work with the skidder. Niebour had a ditch that crosses into our home quarter that he wanted us to clean out so I went and did some brush clearing and pushed the trees out of the ditch. it was to steep to drive threw so I didn't get the bottom cleand out at all. He can do that with his v ditcher if he wants to. Also did some more at our dug out and the one slew that I'm ditching out. Just about got er now I think. I should try and post a couple pics of what I've been up to but I haven't got them yet. Plus this pic posting still doesn't want to work right. Sometimes I can't recieve bigger emails either. After so many minutes it's like my dial up times out and it just quits what ever it's doing.
We're going to start logging fairly quick too so that's going to take away from my extra time allot.
We didn't get away completey without problems I found out today. A o ring is leaking now on the pipe. There is also a ever so slightl knock in the back of the motor. Everything seems to be okay and I'm not to sure if that's a new noise or not. It's the kind of thing that you don't start listening for till something else happens. It's very quiet too so unless you really listen you don't really hear it.
It's sure good that you've got that flexability to do either. Get sick of equipment you can go to the office for a while after training is done. Get sick of the office or traveling and you can get back on the equipment providing there's a course ready.
Hopefully for his sake he did have insureance. Some people don't. It's getting to be awfully expensive to keep everythign insured.
He's slacking off is he?lol..
I remember you talking about putting up a gate before. Dad has been talkign about it for a long time now but so far hasn't got it done yet.
Ryan
Rick K 10-20-2007, 08:32 AM yes it sounds like you guys need a how with a wrist and a D-5-H with a 6 way blade for a week or two boy you could tune your place right up ...no water sitting any place eh... :D
do you guys still sell the wood as fire wood...
well that sucks the Murphy switch was it set to high because the ones we had you could set them on the temp side to kick out..... on the belts it just hit a lever to knock out the fuel supply... :bash:
your right Ryan but I have equipment in my blood you can't take that out :D I love to operate equipment ....my work life could not be any better I'm well taken care of....I would love to keep this up right into retirement :D .....if not I always have a job with Glen the door is open...
tell me about it your right I'm insurance poor... :cussing:
he is ....well I'm not telling him there is other dealer yet .....every now and again I have to tell him that to get his attention....it hard for him to find go help so he is run to the bone...plus I don't want it yet away...
I want to sell our wood trailer to buy a sea can to put beside the garage this winter to put the Quads etc in it so we have more room in the garage....I think I have a guy who wants it but it is money in my hand when you take it...that's the only way I do business...so if I brought the sleds back home it would be tight again so I will leave them in storage right now till the sea can is here...then next year I will build a pad for it in the bush and more the sea can...
it's just another deterrent :cussing: I think it that or another Shepherd our last on Dutch she was unreal you would not get out unless you new here...but it ties you down have to train the new dog have someone to feed here when your gone away...maybe one day I want to travel this winter with the sleds and that not fare to the dog...
got to run do some work on the pumps points fix up a few thing around here get our big trailer ready to go pick up the gate...and so on..
maybe even get a quad ride in this weekend I would like to do the sled trail maybe tomorrow..
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-22-2007, 10:54 PM I was out driving around on my quad tonight checking out some of the slews. Like you say a couple of weeks and there'd be no more water. Chase them darn muskrats right out of here. :D I drove up to a couple of them tonight and knocked and the roof but no one came to answer at all. :D Started driving in the edge of the slew and all of a sudden it started getting pretty deep. When it got up to the bumper I figured I better get out before I got stuck. Said to myself you're being pretty brave seeing as how you've only got running shoes on. Hit a big run. It was really to big to be a muskrat run but I'm not to sure what else it could've been no sign of beavers there but who knows.
We're just using it ourselves in our wood stove. We've got a pretty good size pile but it's not enough for winter I don't think.
I don't think it's adjustable at all on ours. The switch is in the temp gauge. Same with the oil pressure. When it gets to high or low it pushes the switch over and shuts off the fuel.
I know what you mean. If I go out to work I think it'll just about have to be somewhere were I can run something. Even if it's just a old cat, that's what I enjoy. Been thinking pretty serious about it this fall because my crop wasn't very good. There's no work around here though so I'd have to get out of here for a while. There lies the problem though nothing good to drive. So I'm not to sure what I'm going to do yet.
I read where you did some complaining and are suposed to be getting some cash back from yamaha. Sure hope they come threw for you. Pretty small payout though if you consider how much you've paid out over the last few years.
They sold a big container the other day real cheap. It was at least 45' and it sold for 1500 bucks. Usually that's what the smaller ones sell for around here.
Went out to the auger today to unload the semi and low and behold the auger was empty. Funny thing is it was full a week ago. :slick: Some one needed it more then we did I guess.
Did you manage to get out at all?
Ryan
Rick K 10-28-2007, 11:53 AM yes they do make some big run I have gone into a few of them talk about wet...trap them what are the furs worth...
yes I do miss the woodstove what I wish we could have was a indoor woodstove again but that will not fly with Claudette .....I just love the heat....
ok we did have a few that you could adjust...
let me know maybe I can pull some strings for you...I would go west the coin is bigger out there...
yes they are sending some coin back I have to go see Troy tomorrow plus anther guy to pay for a see can I think I will be bring home the Phazer & the new Nytro...
yes the smaller one bring more coin they are real hard to find right now...I have to buy around here because freight will kill me it would be more then the can....right now it going to coast me just over 200 to move it from Winnipeg to our place...
no we did not get out dad is going down real quick...it is not nice I would be very surprised if he made Christmas...
got back from Wuskwatim yesterday they are still working away on the road 48 km they are doing the dam is to start in November they say time will tell..
Rick :D
Rick K 10-28-2007, 01:54 PM One more thing Ryan look at what it was doing when we left Thompson Manitoba ....can you say sweet... :D
[attachment=39931:Wuskwati...3_26_094.JPG]
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-28-2007, 02:01 PM I don't know what the furs are worth now. Awfully messy job though from what I hear. Some say they stink too. After crawling around in all that slew mud I wouldn't think they'd smell to pretty.
She doesn't like the mess I take it? We had a wood stove in the house before we got our out door wood stove. There's nothing like it that's for sure. You just can't beat the heat.
Will let you know Rick. Right now I think(emphasis on think) we are headed for the bush. All depends on the guy in charge of it though. He's dragging his feet now for the stand that we want to cut in. Two weeks ago he said that we could cut there now it's up in the air. It's teribly hard to get those guys to comit to anything. That's why we don't count on anything untill we're in the bush cutting trees down.
Good to hear Rick. Doesn't cover the whole diff. but everylittle bit helps. So you're getting a container brought out now?
It was around the same price to ship it around here too. We would just load it on our high boy trailer and unload it with our Volvo so frieght isn't to big of a deal for us. Dad has talked about buying one but so far that's as far as it has gotten.
That's not good news at all.
I've always thought it would be interesting to work on a dam project. Always been kind of curious as to how they deal with all the water that is allready there.
My brother was home this weekend. He came out to get a load of fire wood so we helped him get a load yesterday. took my quad up and pulled out a couple of trees for him that were over a steep bank. Went for a little ride when I was there too. Was out yesterday morning too before he came home for a hour or so. They're putting in a new culvert again in the one spot that I had told you about before. They've got a 450 JD hoe a 300 Komatsu and a D6D working there. Pretty nice stuff too. Company is call acadia construction. Turner transport hauled in the 450 because it's so heavy.
Ryan
Rick K 10-29-2007, 08:15 PM someone told me they are worth something I will ask around yes they stink if you have them next to the fire...ha ha
yes you have that right Ryan but she does like the heat too..
sad when they drag there feet no one wins because it to late then so tell them to wake up I said...I here you on that one ...
soon I hope this week I went and paid Troy in full for my sled and paid the property taxes and a sea can all in one week wow that's a pile of coin I spent but it's sure is worth it if we get snow right away...I might have it home tomorrow if everything goes right...
yes I stopped by to see dad today he just looks what can I say bad...poor guy you can see he misses mom good thing Michael moved back with dad to help him around Michael is in school on his next level...doing very well with his marks...
I think the next thing I do with the quads is put them away and put the blade on mine for the winter..that 450 weights in around 110,000 lbs..the one Glen had was that heavy with a wrist on it 4.5 yard ditching bucket you could move some dirt...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 10-29-2007, 08:55 PM We've got some stretchers around here yet but I haven't got a clue on how to skin them at all. Seems to me they said a good Coyote pelt now was up over 100 bucks. Not very many traping anymore I don't think.
He's changed his story again now a bit. Says now it's a protected area. I don't believe that though because just a year ago they were drilling for diamonds in the same spot.
Wow ehh, that sure is a pile of coin. I went and borrowed enough today to pay off all my inputs so I've been sort of spending too.
It's sad to see them in that state. Not much you can do but just wait. It's good that Michael is there to help him.
You're giving up allready are you??lol.. I'm not quite ready to pack it in just yet. Plan on using my quad till I can't drive it anymore.
That is a pile of wieght to be hauling around. I'm sure they were over weight but they were hauling it anyways. The 300 they just had it on a tri axle. I can only imagine how much dirt you could move in a day with that machine. Dad doesn't believe me that the bigger hoes aren't as good in water and mud. He was looking at a 270 Hitachi but I figured that would be pretty heavy for ditching in water. What do ya think??
Ryan
Rick K 10-31-2007, 08:12 PM Claudette brother used to be into it big time did very well at it but I don't think he does it anymore...
here is what you do draft a contract and give him a signing bonus that money just might make him sign up...
yes I was looking at a new diesel GMC 3/4 to 4x4 I will have one by this time next year...
yes it sure is you just wish you could do something for them ...I keep thinking of mom when she was going how fast it was boy I think of her every day even might have a cry by myself...she was one special lady in my life..no one knows how much she meant to me...and now I watch dad go though the same thing just fading away to nothing...I guess it all part of life .....once a man twice a boy think about that one eh...yes Michael is a saint to Grandpa he is the special one to them...
well I have so much to get done but I'm not giving up yet I got the sea can home yesterday it just went together unreal the deal boom within 2.5 hours it was sitting in our yard...
that 300 needs a jeep it is over just a signal axel behind the drives to made it legal..
well I did lot's of swamp work with a 892 ElC & 330 Cats if the HYD is working well they will pull themselves though no problems but if you do get stuck it becomes a big job to get them out...I would not go any bigger then that 450 in the swamps...I have used a 345 cat once and boy she had ba** if you know what I mean ....long as you have a good bottom underneath you ....lot's of time you might get 2 to 3 feet of poop under you but after that it is a good bottom.... the ground changes from job to job so it is very hard to say with out giving her a try...
well today something happened unreal to me something good for a change....Troy called me said I need to see you so I went to see him he said I have a deal for you ....what you give me the Nytro FX ER back and I will give you a Nytro FX ER RTX with 3 years warranty 700 Yamaha bucks,,,,so I said how much do I have to kick in he said nothing .....what a Nytro RTX FX ER with 3 years and 700.00 Yamaha bucks yes he said ...why I said ...someone snow checked it a backed out so thanks who ever you are ....it's a 40 th anniversary Nytro RTX FX ER..
I guess it pays to stay with one dealer he said I am his best customer...sweet for me...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-01-2007, 12:09 AM I think it's becoming a lost art in a way now. Not to many people bothering with it any more. It's definatley not one of the nicest jobs, that's for sure. I imagine if you got serious about it though there might be a few dollars to be made doing it. Not a whole lot of over head that's for sure.
We went up to the bush yesterday with him. Left here at 9:00 in the morning and didn't get back till 6:30 last night. We walked 4 or 5 differant stands trying to find something suitable to log but there's not a whole lot of good stuff left. We can't have the stand that we wanted this year at all because it wasn't in the plans at all and the locals could object to us logging it because they weren't consulted at all. Most of the time they never show up to meetings anyways and life just goes on but they still have to do it otherwise they could posibly shut us down. I took my quad up though and got a good ride in out of it. Put on about 70 kms just driving in the bush. I got back to some spots that I hadn't been before and toured around on some fermilliar roads. Had some fun anyways. It's time for a oil change now though on my bike. I've been hoping it would snow some so I could put it away for a bit and do a majour service on it. Check all the oils and change the engine oil and filter. I've put on about 2600 kms now this summer so it's getting time for a oil change if nothing else.
Are you planing on buying a bigger trailer that you need the diesel for? I'd still love to buy a newer truck but unfortunatly the stars aren't alinging for that this year.
It's the kind of loss and pain that never goes away, it just gets easier to take over time.
Did you have a spot leveled out ahead of time for it? That is sure quick service ehh.
Dodge dealer where we bought our truck has some pretty good deals on quads right now. 07 Grizzly 700 for 9600, 07 Kodiak 450 for 6900 07 Raptor 700 for 8000 all except the raptor with warn winch. These are on new quads.
Kind of figured that they'd be a bit over on a tir axle. Found out today that the 450 is for sale. Much to big for us though. The owner of th equipment was here today looking for firewood. Turns out they're not puting a crosign in at all. Oceans and Fisheries steped in and said no. Either put in the proper culvert or take the crossing out completely. So they're doign the latter.
Wow, I'd never thought of taking that 450 into some swamp. Clay base is anywhere from 1-3' below the surface. I drove out into the one slew on my quad and was surprised at how hard it actually was under the water. I'd still be scared though due to a lack of knowledge. Were you use the bucket as well to help pull you threw?? I think once I got onto a hoe I could have lots of fun for a while playing on one. Just like anything else though I imagine there'd be a pretty big learing curve.
Wow, sounds like a good deal for sure. So what is the biggest diferance between the two? Sounds like Troy is trying to take care of ya.
Ryan
Rick K 11-03-2007, 12:17 PM yes it is it has become a computer world ....
it's a nice time of year to be in the bush it's real peaceful eh...wow you smoked us that's for sure I don't think we put on a 1,000 yet...
no I just not happy with the Z71 1500 power ...not enough power when you have 2 sleds on plus if we are thinking of a R.V. again I will not pull it with the 1/2 ton I will go with the 3/4 ton.
sort of I just leveled it the other night when I got home from work I put Claudette Quad in there already and we are going today to pick up the sleds from Troys they will be going in there too...my Quad well it's the big dog he gets the blade put on it for the winter to push snow ...but I would like a skid steer for that ....but the Grizzly will do for now...
wait till next spring and see what happens it will blow you away sell now buy then.....is the word I'm hearing...
yes them 450 need a big job to go too...yes they are fun to play with.... you can do some real nice work with them .....when you get on to them...yes they are nut's ....saying no more about them because I think they are wing nuts...they have go to far...
yes it is amazing what they go though...pratice make perfect or close to it.....
yes it is sweet 40th ann spring air shock ....not wild about yet ...have to look it up on the net but there is some diffs...
got to run lot's to do today
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-03-2007, 10:19 PM It really is a nice time of the year to be in the bush. No bugs not to hot or cold and no snow to plow threw. We'd like to get some out before the snow flies but I don't know yet how it's going to work. We've pretty much got a stand picked out now but we have to chec it over once more before we take it for sure. Need to make sure there's not much center rot in it.
Pulling a camper I can see you needing the extra power and size of truck. Would've thought your gas job would handle a couple of sleds without to much problem though. Sucks up some more fuel though I bet ehh.
Before you know it it'll be to small and you'll be looking for another one.Especially if you keep buying toys. :D
I wonder how long this dollar will actually hold. Personally I don't think it's goign to be a long term thing. the states will come back from thier situation eventually I think. It's sure a good time to be buying stuff from the states though. Sawmills are takign a real kicking though.
Was at a auction on Thursday, we were looking at a older D7G with twin tilts. Looked to be in not to bad of shape but I think the final drives needed to be done as both sides were starting to leak oil out. One was worse then the other. It went to high though. Sold for 47000 It was a 1976 so it was getting up in years. U/C was good and it had some work done to it but it was still more then what we figured it was worth. They had a little 416 cat Backhoe there that I was playing around on a little bit. Sure wish I could've had it out here too. Lots of places it would come in handy. Had tp kind of laugh to myself in a way. I was up there on it checking over just to see how the pins were and I was moving the hoe around a bit all of a suden one guy come up to me and started asking me questions about it like how I like cat back hoes and how they worked. I just said straight out that I had actually never been on a back hoe before. Ohh was all he said in a surprised voice. Gues he figured it looked like I knew what I was doing.
I think I'd catch onto the controlls pretty quick but I've never done any digging what so ever so I think it would take me a little bit to catch onto how to actually dig with it. Would be allot easier if I had someone experienced with me at first but if we bought our own I'd be learing as we went.
So is that air shock adjustable on the fly then? Seems to me the apex rt or somethign had that where you coulud adjust the suspension on the fly.
Ryan
Rick K 11-04-2007, 10:08 AM well I hope it works out for you guys no center rot and not to much snow till you get out enough wood for yourself
Yes I wish we had some time for the quads to ride... some of the real nice trails around here it is our favorite time too..... right now but it's crazy right now another course to do 6 days a week 10 hrs a days a week so I will be giving her for the next month....with the exercising and teaching etc...
it's not as bad as I make it sound the truck that I have pulls the sleds just fine and the gas is good too it's around 20 mpg it's I just can't fly 130 k's so maybe it's a good thing..
that's why if I buy the 3/4 ton diesel it will take care of what ever we want to do...
well I think it will be up for along time I do not want to start saying what I think because I will get into trouble ...I here your prov is starting to pick up with the oil sands too plus uranium pot ash etc next boom prov...we are going great guns ahead ....Alberta is flying high bc is doing well....etc....our dollar is going to hit 1.10 you wait in see ....that's why I'm not buying a new truck right now wait to next summer it will be a much better deal...it's my felling...
boy that's huge coin for that 7G... in my eyes way to much..is that a grave digger tractor loader back hoe...if so you left it in the right place...ha ha...
you would get onto it real fast I think .....
no you have a pump for them...this is one sweet looking sled I put a bigger windshield on it right from the get go...I think I will love it I like the looks you like the looks.....but some people do not like the looks they think it is ugly...so everyone has a opinion which is good...I like the looks and that's all the counts in my eyes....period...I also got the 40th cover for it...
Rick :D
Rick K 11-04-2007, 12:07 PM Ryan I put the sleds and Claudette's Quad in the sea can w00t and My Quad is in the garage with the blade waiting to be put on...she is a tight fit but it should be safe we can put up to 4 huge locks on the doors we just have two....it's not a high crime area but who wants to take that chance....we don't.. :bash:
here is a few pictures for you Ryan would be nice if it was 1 foot wider :cussing: but it will do...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-05-2007, 01:03 PM You'll definatly want to keep it locked I would think. Lots of money siting in there. Like you say it's to bad that it's not another foot wider then you could park them side by side.
New sled looks good. Got some nice handguards and a windshield to bout. Now all you need is snow. I've seen snow here but nothing on the ground yet. Just the odd flake floating around in the air. Hudson Bay has some I think but not much yet.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 11-07-2007, 06:54 PM Just saw quite the sight tonite coming home from voting. One guy is doing a bunch of ditching not to far from us and he has a extra hoe in now doing some work for him. Drove by tonight and he was out in the middle of a slew that they had drained down some before trying to ditch threw the middle of it now. He was just siting there though now. Had it buried up level with the bottom of the cab. Wouldn't have been more then a foot of water out there at the absolute most. He was still trying to dig himself out but all he was doing was taking himself in deeper. He did pull himself into it further a couple of times and then tried to dig out the mud in front of him but it looked like he was just going in further. When we left he was starting to push mud with the bottom of the windshield. I think he would've had allot better luck trying to pull himself out the way he came in because the way he was headed it only got worse. Said to mom and dad when we first saw it that he'd better just got and get a cat and a winch. Hopefully I can get back in the morning to see if he did get out on his own or not. He was in there bad though. He maybe could've dug himself out but I don't know. It was a newer Case hoe. Just a little smaller then a 200 size machine I think.
No snow here yet but it's awfully cold. It's all cloueded over but all we've seen so far for snow is just a few flakes.
Got the sea doo winterised the other day so I guess that season is done for another year. Put some fresh gas in the yamaha and fired it up and it sounded okay.
Picked up some diesel fuel today and is it ever getting expensive. Farm fuel is .80/lt now by spring I expect it to be a buck. Crazzy, it's sure going to cost big bucks to put this crop in next spring. Fuel is sure getting to be a majour expense now. Never used to be to big of a deal but now wholly crap.
Ryan
Ryan
Rick K 11-07-2007, 11:02 PM Yes who will win the vote they say the ndp might lose this time....have they been in for sometime know Ryan...
sounds like he was having some fun long as the house does not get into the mud that would stop him from turning the house around .....he should be able to push down and lift up and pull himself ahead all in one motion .....if nor well he might be getting himself into trouble...if it is a case 9030 his is done .... :lmao: :p
yes they say it's all going to be nuts this winter help us $1.50 lt is what I'm hearing I hope I heard wrong though....I'm going to look into purple fuel to see if I can use it for training tomorrow.....thanks for the Idea Ryan....yes 90 plus to fill my truck up...
Picked up some bags for my sled tonight...all we need is snow please....and thank you...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-08-2007, 09:58 AM Well, it's all said and done and the ol NDP is finally out. They've been governing this province now for 16 years. People just finally decided it was time for a change. We've got 58 seats in Sk. and the Sask. Party took 36 or 37 I think. It was a very close race in some ridings too. One local riding wont be declared untill the 19th of Nov. as there are someo absontee ballets to come in yet. I'm sure there will be lots of recounts as well as some places there were only a few votes seperating the winners.
I think it was 210 case. I'm not 100% sure of the new model numbers for them. It's the modern vs. of the 9030. He was getting down deep enough that the engine compartment was in the mud and water When he lifted the front end up. You'd want to be careful not to lift to high, sure make a mess of things in a hurry if you got all that muddy water in the engine. Hopefully I'll get over there this morning and take a peek and see if he got out or not.
We got our first snow last night. Ended up with about a inch or so. I might wash up my quad this afternoon and then fire up the yamaha and drive it down and wash off the dirt on it.
I don't think I'll be doing to much sleding this winter with gas prices going up so high. Money isn't to flush for me this fall either so I have to be kind of tight with it. :( In sask. I don't think you can use dyed for construction use at all. The guy that I was working for burnt clear anyways. Out in Ab. they were puting in some sort of acid that disolved the dye in the diesel so they could burn it. Someone will always figure out a way some how to get the system.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 11-08-2007, 07:05 PM Hi Rick, did you get the pics I sent ya? They finally got it out this afternoon but they didn't start it at all. I take it you don't like them case hoes? Never had anything to do with them so I've never hear any good or bad about them. Looking at the pic it looked like a 9010B if that sounds right. They had the 9030 down infront of it digging it out and he just kept on sinking so he had to get out too. He had to lift and pull himself out to get out but it came out pretty good. They had it siting back up on a hill and it looked pretty sorry siting there. They also hauled in a D8H to help with the pulling I think. Sure gona blow thier budget on that job that's for sure.
Had a couple of inches of snow today. Didn't get a chance at all to bring out the yamaha and get it washed off. It's not teribly dirty but there's a film of dust on the hood and seat and that's about the best way to get it off. My quad needs a wash in the worst way as well so I can do them both at the same time hopefully.
Ryan
Rick K 11-08-2007, 07:56 PM wow I thought they would be going out...
yes I received them Ryan some good ones yes he has a small problem a least the other hoe is close by to get the guy out..I would like to know what he was thinking...did the 8H have a winch on it Ryan...no kidding the money is gone that is for sure....have to make it up on the next job...
yes we are getting some white stuff to rather sweet I hope it does not stop for sometime....
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-08-2007, 08:47 PM It had been predicted that they would be going out but no one knew for sure. The NDP has pulled off a majority gov. before after being down in the polls but not this time. Just about everyone that you could talk to around here was ready for a change. Hopefully things will get going here now with the new gov. I had to laugh, the local talk show host had a guy from Mb. phone in on his show and say that he hoped the NDP would stay in so Mb. could keep up with Sk. Don't think we'll be worying about that anytime soon but it would be nice to see some of the things going on developed better and quicker.
They actually trucked that one in to get him out. I'm pretty sure they brought in another contractor with the 9030 to help out so he was on the clock the whole time as well. I'm tempted to sneak over in the morning and see if anyone is around and see what all is wrong but I don't think I'll get there at all. I said to mom and dad last night that he should just quite while he's ahead and go get a cat with a winch or another hoe right off the bat. Probably a hired man though who was trying to avoid the extra attention from his boss. I can't remember if the 8 had a winch on it or not. He bought it at a sale last spring. I wasn't up close to it tonight at all so I couldn't tell. They were all up there were they had brought the hoe to so we didn't go up there at all. I bet the owner would like to know too. :D I'm pretty confident if I did get into a situation like that I'd throw my pride out the window long before it had to swim out. :lmao:
Good to hear that you guys are in on it too.
Ryan
Rick K 11-09-2007, 09:25 PM They say the next boom Provence is Saskatchewan...where is the oil sands in sask up in the north...boy if they fire that up look out they do not have enough people in the country to run all of this equipment could you imagine where the wages would go... right though to the moon ....bring it on...
stuff like that happens from time to time I just heard they ran a 773 cat rock truck of the road at the dam...the guy said he only closed his eyes for a second ya right..
well I went and spent some of my 700 Yamaha bucks I got with the sled ....and Troy gave me the 40th ann cover tonight for free....so I picked up a jacket and a fleece a belt holder had the service done on the Phazer etc... ....
then I went and looked at a 08 Duramax Diesel Z71 4x4 SLT full load it comes with command start right from the factory leather all the bells and whistles....boy do they have b*ll* they fly...very nice trans to that will pull a sled trailer no problem...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-10-2007, 09:56 AM I hope they're right in a way. I'm afraid of what it's going to do for land prices though. I think any hopes of buying land might be gone for the time being. I really don't know where all the people are going to come from though, Ab. Sk. Mb. are all having a hard enough time as it is to find competant help from what I gather. Like you say though just think what a good experienced operator could make. In a way though people wont be much further ahead. As soon as wages go up it seems everything else follows. People have to pay for those high wages one way or another I guess.
Must of fell asleep ehh. That would be one awfully expensive mistake though. Did they hurt it bad?
Them accesories are sure expensive aren't they. I've looked at the fleeces before but the ones I looked at I think were up around 100 or 150. That was a little to rich for my blood. Sounds like you're getting all set for the season.
They are a sharp looking truck that's for sure. I've only ever been in one Duramax and that was one of the first ones that came out. It'd sure get up and go when you wanted it to. Most of the new trucks now will pull allot more then they can realistically handle. If you ever have to stop in a hurry you'd better hope that your're trailer brakes are in good shape. If you're hauling a big load that is.
Ryan
Rick K 11-10-2007, 11:22 AM so where are the tar sands in sask up your way if they are buy the land with the mineral right too..then you will have to buy a rock truck to haul your money to the bank...high wages is going to be the only way your going to get anyone good to come to work for you....it will be a bidding war for the good operators...
sounds like it eh I here 30 K worth ...
fleece 95 I think jacket 269...windshield 90 etc...the season can't come quick enough in my eyes...
it come with factory trailer brakes built in it is crazy all the stuff it comes with ....command start then the heated seats go on etc....but the real kicker is it is not free you pay for it all...
well I start training up the road next week I have a D-6-M, D-7-H with a ripper 2 excavators and last but not least 2 yes I said 2 621 cat buggies and one great big sand boxes to play in or should I say dirt box...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-10-2007, 09:01 PM Hi Rick, I realised after I had logged off that I had forgot to tell you where the tar sands were at here. From what I gather they're in the Northwestern part of Sk. Just north of a town called Ille á la Crosse. They're exploring up there now trying to figure out where it's at for sure. And to see how much is there. We've got heavy crude around here I'm pretty sure. Pretty hard to find anyone with mineral rights anymore. Most have been surendered over the years. I believe it cost extra to get the title transfered to the new owner so most just let it go is what I've heard. Don't hold me to that because I don't know that for sure.
Gona take a long time to make that back with that truck. Insureace will pay out I guess but even so.
I was going to take the yamaha out of the shop this morning and wash it up but I ran out of time. I was up organising the shop this morning. After the auction season it tends to end up in one big awful mess. I was moving stuff around and sweeping up some. No where close to done yet though.
Yes, you've got that right. You pay for it one way or another. Whats the sticker price on that truck? 65,000?
Sounds like lots of fun to me. :D You could bring them out here and train them in our fields. We've got lots of ditching they could do. :D
Found a couple of old D7 cats out your way. One was at Eriksdale and the other was at Ste Rose Du lac. We're still hunting around a bit for a older D7. Those were 7Es out there.
Ryan
Rick K 11-11-2007, 07:28 AM That would be great if they started work on them for your Province think of the work....or think of the money to be made. Imagine if you had the mineral rights lot's of the old land owners have the mineral rights around here but if they sell you loss the mineral rights ....the G-man takes them which in my eyes is bs...
yes it's nasty no matter how you look at it... I will be up there after the training course is done maybe I will see it....
It's seems to be a full time job to keep the place clean eh ...that the way I find it I'm always cleaning...
yes your right I think the only thing it does not have is the GPS which was I think another 2,500.00 they gave me good money for my 06 it had 82,000 K's on it 31,000 it had all the bells too...I just put new tires on it 10 ply so I told them I want them tires put on in the deal so they agreed....I think I will have this one for sometime...but now I can pull a rv if we want to get another one...
if it was closer it could happen..
wow Erickdale is just up the road from here the guy in St Rose should be hufnor not spelled right...
well have to go got lot's to do outside work before the snow comes plus I have bags to put back on the Phazer & the Nytro plus belt holder on the Nytro and License plate better to do it now instead of 30 below....
I will take a few pictures of there new truck for you Ryan
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-11-2007, 07:34 PM Yes, it would be nice if they got something going around here. I'ld like to get a job running equipment locally but right now there really isn't anything to do. If I had my own equipment there's a few jobs that I could do but most likeley not enough to make payments let alone keep it going. That's not a very fair way of getting the rights. I think the gov. was buying them here at one time too.
Yes, I could spen all my time just cleaning things up around here but I'd never really get caught up. Trouble is if you leave it to long then you've get a awful job awaiting you.
Are you keeping the on star active? Kind of a neat thing at times. Sounds like you did pretty good on your trade they can make the numbers look pretty good on paper though. When we traded off our 94 gmc diesel they said they gave us 15,000 for it but I know that we didn't realistically get that as we could've bought the truck for about 5 thousand cheaper then the price they gave us. You can pretty much pull anything you want now. Do you need a class one out there yet for gvw over 10,000 lbs? You need it here now. To many ya hoos were pulling big fifth wheel trailers and didn't have a clue as to what they were doing. Some still don't so I don't know if it made much of a differeance or not. Was in Saskatoon one day and there was a couple pulling a big fifth wheel camper that pulled onto the wrong side of the freeway. They then tried to back it up to the intersection but didn't know how to back up a trailer at all. Just about stoped and backed it up for them but we were in a hurry.
Freight would be just a tad expensive ehh. You could train me too while you were here. :D
We haven't phoned either of them yet to see what kind of shape they are in. I wouldn't mind to go out and take a look at them. We haven't been out east for quite a while now. I'd sure like to get a older cat but I don't know if it's going to happen this fall or not.
It's much easier to work outside now when it's warmer out that's for sure.
Can't wait to see it. Bet it looks pretty sharp.
We moved home a flat bottom bin today that we had bought from our neibour at a auction a little while back. Took the volvo over there and lifted it up and put some skids under it as the floor was starting to rot out in some spots. Then I just drove the volvo home with the bin on the forks. Couldn't see anything in front of me but I got home okay. Mom and dad were ahead of me and flaged me down if there was a car coming. I was going to back up home but then I couldn't see if there was anyone behind me or not.
I'll try and post a couple of pics Same problem now, it wont upload the picture. It starts uploading the picture then just quites and never finishes. It says it's uploading file but it doesn't finish at all. I've been able to post pictures before without any problems but ever since harvest I haven't been able to. I never could get those harvest pics posted. I don't know what's going on.
Ryan
Rick K 11-14-2007, 09:10 AM you will by the sounds of thing you guys are going to boom too...the g-man wants control eh..,.
I her you Ryan the wind blows and fills it in the ditch you have to keep them clean to keep the land workable...
yes on star comes with it I still had it working in my last truck...no class 5 is all we need ..I think...I have seen some huge loads being hauled around here too....unreal...
yes freight does add up that's no kidding...
never got a darn thing done on the sleds I will try this weekend or at night tonight...
did you get some pictures of it ...yes I have had a few problems from time to time....I will try to post a picture of the truck..

Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-14-2007, 09:50 PM If the potash demand keeps on rising there will be allot more mines going up I think. My Sister and BIL's farm is right smack dab in the middle of a new exploration study or something of the like that they are doing right now. They're doing sisemic testing I think to see what is under there now. They think that in the future there could be a new mine go up there so my sister is pretty happy about that.
Yup, that's the way it has been anywyas. Hopefully with the new gov. things will be freed up a bit and everything will take off. We've got everything imaginable here in Sk. but it has yet to be developed into something. The uranium up north is unreal too, they're doing some pretty big things up there now. Farming and logging are the two things that are really on a downward slide in Sk. but it's like that all over the place. There's just not much a person can do about it either.
It fills in too everytime you work threw it with a cultivator or harrows or whatever it may be. Last couple of springs the water has run hard enough to cut them out some but it's no where near enough.
Do you use the onstar much?
By the looks of things I'd say you've got some time left yet to get all the add ons on and the sleds ready to go. We've had a little bit of snow here but not any real amount yet. Been warm enough lately that it's been melting away too.
I did but no matter what I try I can't get them on here. Even our email is giving us grief now again. I can send small files but any larger ones it comes up with a message say the server was inturupted and couldn't send or something like that.
Truck looks real sharp Rick, are you going to put any other goodies on it? Chrome rocker panels would shine it up even more ya know. :D Helps to protect it too.
I've got my eye on a 94 dodge diesel but I don't know if I can swing it or not. I can't really afford it right now but I really wanted to get something to drive around that I can actually use. It looks really nice from the pics I've seen but I don't know what kind of shape it's in for sure. He's asking 12,500 for it. 275,000 kms on it. Had some front end work done he says. looks like it's been painted too. Just looking from the pictures anyways. Paint looks to perfect to be factory.
Ryan
Rick K 11-17-2007, 10:03 PM I would be too Ryan if it was in my back yard sweet for you sister...
I think it will take off in your prov without a doubt with the new gov in place they will want to make a good impression on the voters...
from time to time I will I have lot's of minutes but I use my cell most of the time though....it is nice when your in traffic...
I sure hope so Ryan I'm working tomorrow training till Friday then off for one then back at her....6 days a week 10 hours per day..I sure want to get it done before it gets to cold....we just bought our snow passes today if you buy here before Dec 1 I think you save 30 each one 85 is what we paid for one...
so is mine too...darn e-mails
maybe in time ...your right..I'm sure happy with it Ryan it is one sweet truck..
I've seen them Dodge trucks with 800,000 on them that is unreal...eh
off to bed 4:50 comes early
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 11-18-2007, 10:16 AM I'm hoping that they don't screw anything up so that they wont get in again. Hopefully they'll make some changes for the better. I think they'll be better for farmers too. The old party never really did anything for them. Even if a gov. program was available from the feds and the prov. gov. was suposed to kick in thier share, they never did or if they did it wasn't as much as it should've been. They said there was no extra money for it then the next day they'd anouce some new multi million dollar project for some other group or city.
Does onstar work better up north then you cell phone? I was up with my brother last summer and one of his friends had it in his truck. We were trying to phone home to see how my brothers kids were doing. There was enough bush around though I guess that it couldn't see the satelite. They had to drive out to the hwy before it would work. Pretty slick litle unit though.
Wow, you're putting in some long weeks. That overtime check is pretty nice I bet though.
They're getting up there on trail passes ehh. Here you buy your plates and the trail permit costs are included with them. I think to plate the yamaha it was going to cost me around a 100 bucks. Maybe bit more, I can't remember for sure. I don't ride on trails though so I don't bother with plates at all. All it is now anyways is liability insureance. You have to buy extra coverage for your sled.
Hopefully you can put many a trouble free miles on it.
The 94 is sold so that's out. I'm still looking around a bit. IF the banker says it's okay I'm going to have something to drive sooner or latter. Hopefully sooner then latter. She might say no though.lol..
Snowoing pretty good out here now. There's actually a heavy snowfall warning out for our area so who knows maybe we'll get some.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 11-20-2007, 10:19 AM Well it's ofiicial, winter is here. Ended up with about 7or8 inches of snow. Not quite enough out in the fields but we were up in the bush yesterday and there's more then enough to go up there now. We were walking a stand in the bush yesterday and there was a good solid foot of snow there. Had the yamaha out the other day and washed it all up again. Took it for a short little rip up and down the field just to get the moisture off of the engine. Put on a whoping 4kms so far. :D
Suposed to get the paper work done up on Monday for the stand that we're going into. Hopefully we can get in there and get some work done before christmas.
Ryan
Rick K 11-23-2007, 10:35 PM Sure hope they do a great job for you guys Ryan...
on star is cell phone here Ryan it's with MTS I will try it where there is no cell service to see if it works I think it will...but not the phone...
yes that's why I'm having trouble even finding the time for the puter...
we bought ours last weekend for 85 each after Dec 1 think they are 115.00 wow eh...yes we have plates insurance and so on I have to....to much money not to have insured
sorry I hope you find what you want for a good deal...
we have just a little but up north I here they have a foot and a half wow I will be going up in December....I think Michael is going to the dam to work I pulled a few string for him ...so he will be pull wire up there...good for him...
wow I wish it was here I would be playing tonight and tomorrow that's for sure..ya sure rub it in Ryan just a little rip eh :bash:
Rick :D
yes I will believe it when it's in your hands ha ha... :lmao:
poor farmer/logger 11-25-2007, 08:22 PM I might got out to Ab. and see how stuff is selling out there now. Slowed down allot out there so maybe some stuff has gotten a little cheaper. 06 GMC and Chevy ext. cab 4x4 loaded up pretty good were selling around 15,000. Was at a auction yesterday and they sold a 06 GMC duramax crew cab loaded up with 50,000 kms for 31,000. 04 Ford dsl 1ton crew cab loaded right up could've been had for 16,500. Not to sure on the kms on that one.
We got another 4" here last night. Probably got enough to go sleeding now but I haven't been out yet at all. Up in the bush where we are headed is about 18 inches now. It's pretty cold out here now though. Last I looked was when we where in the truck at about 4:00 and it was allready -25*C. Gona get awful cold here tonight. Should help the snow set up a little bit though.
Hopefully tomorow we'll get it all done. Then we just have to figure out how to get to the logs. Still nothing to really snow plow with.
Ryan
Rick K 12-01-2007, 10:18 AM wow AB you are one lucky guy I can only dream about that...last I heard it was going high buyer where saying go east but I think that will change back.
I will take that 06 gm for 31,000 I'm looking for one for work we need one in a bad way...no ford for this guy though...
I wish we would get some more snow but I would not be able to sled any way this 6 days a week 10 hours a day in class is alot...I will be finished at on Dec 14 then off to the dam on the 16 then I will be off for a few weeks or more I will be using up some of my holidays...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 12-01-2007, 02:30 PM I don't think Ab. is as Rosey as it used to be. Some places closing up shop some are allot slower then they used to be and then there's a few that are going on like nothing has changed.
If the price of the new stuff comes down some because of the high dollar there could be some pretty good deals to be had on used vehicles. It's alwasy a little scarey buying at auctions but if you can buy it right you've got some room to fix stuff.
Wish we could send some of our snow your way.
We've got our permit to cut now. We're just waiting for it to warm up now. Been teribly cold here the last little while. Down around -30 a couple of nights. Warmed up a bit now but still pretty cold.
I've got to try and haul out some grain next week now. It'll be the first that I've sold this fall. First little dribble of income for the new crop year. :D
Yamaha isn't running right again so I haven't been out at all. Haven't really had time to look at it yet. I've been batleing a cold now since monday too so that's really not helping matters any.
We've got our eye on a cat down in Mn. We've been kicking the idea around about heading out towards Winnipeg and then down to have a look at it. It's in the South East corner of Mn.
I'll bet you'll be glad to be done with this round of training by the sound of it. Hopefully you'll have some snow by the time your holidays come around.
Ryan
Rick K 12-01-2007, 10:24 PM yes that's what I have been hearing too....
sweet deals eh and thanks for the snow maybe by next weekend Ryan we should be able to go sledding...
good show hope you get big bucks for it you guys work hard enough for it...
that's no good ....yes lot's of flue around here too...with colds it's only a matter of time till it bites us...ha ha...
that would be great we could hook up ...
yes I'm always glad when it comes to the end Ryan it just gets to me after sometime...
we are thinking of heading to the states on the 21 st or 22 nd for a quick trip time will tell...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 12-02-2007, 07:35 PM Have you guys got much snow yet? Saw a picture from a guy on R.P. that is from Rosser(sp??) Mb. They had a fair little bit. Not enough for sledding yet but they had a cover anyways.
The price isn't what I wanted but what do you do. You're at there mercy. I'm only going to haul one load for now. Be nice if I could hang onto some of the money but that load is pretty much all spoken for. :D :( . If I get a chance I might see what kind of deal I can make with our local Yamaha dealer to go threw the yamaha and fix it up. There's a couple of things that should be fixed up and checked over. I'm afraid to ask how much though.lol..
Thought for a while today that I was getting over my cold, I was starting to feel not to bad but now tonight again I'm hacking and coughing away.
Would be good to finally meet up with ya. Nothing is for sure yet as usual but who knows. I'd like to get away from here for a little while and see something different but I don't know how it's going to work out timewise. They just asked mom to come back on full time teaching again too so that might screw up any plains if she takes it on. It's only till the end of Dec. but it's still kind of a pain. Quite often it's okay to have that extra set of hands around. What ever she wants though I guess. It would really only be till the 21 of dec. I guess.
It doesn't leave much time to rest or enjoy life when you have to work that many hours a week. Doesn't leave much time to get stuff done at home either I bet.
Definatley a good time to be heading down there. I guess our buck has gone back down some from what I've heard. Still cheaper then what it used to be though. I hear Honda is coming out with some pretty big rebates on their stuff now to compete with the US prices.
Ryan
Rick K 12-08-2007, 03:56 AM I went for a little rip last night to the gas station and back home on the Nytro sweet ride boy does it go too. we have enough to ride...hey he just over there...in my back yard.
I here you they have you...you want it here it is buy it.heck it's only money..joke
yes that would be nice to meet...I'm done teaching this Friday sweet...don't take me wrong I enjoy it but by the end I'm happy it's over...
well the extra coin at Christmas is always good so the teaching jig might not be that bad...
no kidding I'm beat I'm going to take a few days a rest on my sled then bed then sled then bed ...
I don't think I will be heading to the sled ride in the states I will we training again...but we might try to get down before Christmas for a break...
I'm out of touch with stuff no time right now ..
dad went into the hospital on dec 6 on year after mom had her last operation he is no well ....it's not good they said maybe 2 weeks...sad..it's getting tuff...other then that I'm trying to keep my head up...thank God for Claudette....
Michael is up in Thompson working he is doing great I just talked to him the other night....he will be home on the 19 ...sorry I have just been swamped with everything...so I'm not posting that much...
you take care and wish everyone a very merry Christmas...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 12-08-2007, 10:59 AM Good to hear that you finally got to try out your new sled. I know you've been waiting for a while now. Bet you had a big smile on too when ya got back. :D We've got more then enough now too to go but I haven't been out yet. Going to pick up some gas the begening of the week so I'll see if I can get the yamaha running good then. Hopefully I don't have to do anything to it and I can just fire it up and go. I don't know his name at all but he's got his own little motocross track. His screen name is egoman. Used to do a little car racing too I think by the sounds of it. Could be wrong on that last part though.
We'll get out there one day, just not right now i don't think. Found a D7 somewhat locally again so we're going to try and take a look at it. They're not done overhauling it right now though, they're waiting on the radiator. They don't know weither they are going to try and fix it or get a used or rebuilt one.
Extra money this time of the year always comes in handy. Some people can't get enough the way it seems. They max out thier credit cards they try to pay them off at 20% intrest.
How are the lakes up north now?
Sorry to hear Rick. It's coming at a bad time of the year again too. I guess it's the kind of thing tha we can't controll though and all a person can do is try to stay positive and keep your head up.
Don't feel bad at all Rick, I know you've been verry busy with everything going on around you.
Same to you and your familly Rick. Merry Christmas and a happy new year.
Ryan
yammerhammer7 12-10-2007, 03:51 PM Hey guys whats up? Well sledding season started off great with me buying a 2007 RMK 600 H.O. But then just a few days in I decided to roll it end over end 8x while trying to see what we could max it out at. Good news is that it goes 84MPH Its a 144 with a 2" paddle. We were flying in the ditch and just started to brake and the next thing I know I'm coming to in the bathroom in the house. Just was messing around wasn't wearing a helmet or anything and knocked myself out. Theres upwards of 5350 worth of damage if we buy everything new through the dealers but I think Ebay is going to be my friend on this one. Still have a concussion and all of this happened the Saturday before the the Grey cup. So I walked away with a really ugly ankle but it wasn't broken and the sled is in bad shape. But the main thing is that I walked away. Body seen it all and said that I smoked my head really hard on the ground then kept doing like three cartwheels. So have a good one guys and make sure you take it easy. TTYL
poor farmer/logger 12-11-2007, 10:10 PM Hi Jordan, sounds like it could've been allot worse. Did you hit something? Sure wasn't much snow down there at that time. To bad about the sled but at least you were able to walk away once you came to.
Did you get out on your quad much at all last summer??
Ryan
yammerhammer7 12-12-2007, 03:36 PM Actually I didn't get to go quadding at all. Loaded it for a rip the one day then everyone decided to go to the city so it never happend. We were so busy with work this year that didn't have much time at all. Thats how I got to afford to buy my new sled. Yah I walked away super lucky...I don't ever realise how lucky I am. Great to hear that your doing alright and will talk to you later.
Rick K 12-16-2007, 10:04 AM yes it was real nice does it eat the bumps boy.,,,yes I did ...we are good here too ready to rock...no idea who that is there is lot's of big farmers down that way...
I here ya on the extra money no kidding sure is nice to get or have....
I don't know what they are like I have so busy no time to talk to anyone ....but I'm done the course now so I can get caught up ....started yesterday got the puter email thing fixed so I can sent took the Phazer in for a update on the starter system...got the new truck cleaned up for the trip to the states going to (look) at a new sled trailer enclosed for the sleds and quads...
thanks Ryan dad was in the hospital in palliative care then boom he took a turn back to the good so he is back at home...
on Tuesday Claudette and myself are heading south to look for a few days...then who knows what...sled I hope...I'm going out today for a ride I have to brake it in...
Hi Jordan
you have been busy I see wow good to here your some what ok.....take it easy eh...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 12-16-2007, 10:49 AM Got any pics of it yet out on the snow?? I'm hoping that I feel good enough this afternoon to take ours out for a rip and see how it does. Got some gas the other day so I'm set there now. On friday night though I came down with a awful flu. Ended up sick to my stomach and now a cold is setting in again. Pretty much over the sick to my stomach part but I still fell pretty crappy. I've got a soar throat that I can't get rid of now.
They're suposed to have the D7 back to gether this week. They were waiting on a radiator for it and it as suposed to come in last friday or early this week. So hopefully we can get out and take a peak at it. It's just west of here a little ways so it's not to teribly far to drive. We found a D6C in Saskatoon as well but it's a standard. I'm a little concerned too that it's not heavy enough to push over some of the trees that we need to. There's nothing to teribly big. Biggest would be 14" or so and maybe 50' tall.
Enclosed trailer would sure be nice for in the winter. Don't have to worry about all the salt and slush getting all over the sleds.
Wow, that's good news. Hopefully he can carry on getting better.
Going to do some Christmas shopping?? We wouldn't mind to take a little tour into the states too but now the price of fuel is just rediculous. Picked up 100 gal. of dyed diesel on friday and the bill came to 430 dollars. Come next spring it's verry eas to go threw a couple hundred gallons a day. Sure not looking forawd to that.
Ryan
Rick K 12-16-2007, 07:34 PM Darn I was going to take my camera with me today but I did not I put on about 120 k's it is painful nothing over 6 k for 250 k then nothing over 8 k up to 500 k then give her....or I should say nothing for prolong time...
wow that sucks sounds bad the flu going around with colds I do not want that but I guess it only a matter of time...
take a few pic's would be nice to see it ....I here ya you would have to ramp it I have done that before to take them down...
yes it would be but I think I might have to travel to far to get it...so it might not happen...
yes it sure is..
no just getting away put my feet up look around at a few thing maybe buy too...
yes fuel is getting nasty dumb crazy what else can I say it just hurts eh...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 12-16-2007, 08:02 PM You're allready kicking my but Rick. :D Think I've put on about 20 kms now. I did manage to get our for a little ride today, was the first ride of the season. Don't know if it did my sore throat any good though. Seems to be worse tonight. I don't feel to bad otherwise but I've got a awful hard time talking and swallowing. If it doesn't get better by morning I might have to go see if I can get something for it. Sure not much fun, that's for sure. Want to break it in nice and easy I guess. I'll bet she goes along pretty good though once it's all broke in. Any huge differances between it and your Rx1?
I'll take my camera with for sure, still haven't been able to post here though. I can post on r.p. and other sites but for some reason it wont go threw here.
How far south are you planing on going? A person needs something like that everyonce in a while. Just sit back relax and not have to worry about things for a bit.
That's for sure it hurts. Grain prices are up some but it's scarey how much everything else has gone up. It's getting to be a bigger gamble every year.
Ryan
yammerhammer7 12-19-2007, 10:48 AM Hey guys hows it going? Just thought that I would let you know that last Friday the last bunch of parts came in and we got it all back together and took it for a ride on Saturday. We went from Langham area to Perdue then back to Asquith and then back to the farm so it was a great time and a great ride. Feels so good to have the sled back but that Polaris RMK 600 HO sure has a high center of gravity and makes it pretty tippy. Might trade it in. I heard I can get a brand new 2006 Nitro for 7400bucks from the dealer. So I'm going to look into it and see what I can get. This Saturday were suppose to have our big Christmas dinner at my sisters but all my friends are going for a ride so I think that I'm going to join them. Not to mention there is going to be a few really good looking chicks that are coming out with them. Christmas will be around on the 25th again anyways just my sisters won't be there haha. Well have a good one guys and I'll keep you posted on the great ride were about to have:P
poor farmer/logger 12-20-2007, 06:51 PM Still fighting one helluva cold. Was in on Tue. and got some medicine for my sore throat so that's not to bad now but my cold is sure holding on.
Good to hear that you got your sled back together. Have you checked the tunnel out closeley at all??
Hope you have a good ride.
Ryan
Rick K 12-24-2007, 07:26 AM Yes but look what you did on the Quads...yes there is lot's of that stuff floating around here now...flu...
yes it is going to be fun I can see it already boy it's lighter I can sort of throw it around...
we went to Albertville about 1/2 away from Minneapolis, Fargo, Grand Forks....etc it was well worth the trip ...we bought a new enclosed Aluminum trailer drive on drive off. I will post a few pictures of the toy factory...that is it for some time...spring time 700 grizz....NOT joke...
Michael is back from the north he is having a great time up there...he goes to the gym and works..so yesterday we went to the gym here and did a few thing but today it's of to the gym then to reg the trailer then to Troy's to see him then home to do a ride...Michael is at home to Jan 2 then back up to Thompson...I think I will take the time off till the 7 of Jan..
Claudette & myself hope to get away for a ride around new years on our 25 th yes 25 years new years eve...
I sold our old trailer already. we got 1 for it then I sold the wood trailer earlier this fall so it cost us 2 out of pocket...not to bad we thought. no more covers dirty sleds when you get home from the slush & salt..
wow Jordan that sounds good eh hope you have a good ride too.
wow Ryan that cold does not sound good at all that sounds real nasty...how long have you had it....
well have to go ride the bike then off to the gym with Michael...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 12-24-2007, 10:12 AM I had a cold about two weeks ago and I was getting over it pretty good then a week ago friday I started coming down with another. Bad sore throat that time. I'm starting to get over it now but I'm still coughing quite a bit and I can still feel a little bit of a sort of burning feeling in the back of my throat when I swallow. Been taking penicillin and it helped but I think it's to the point now where I just have to get over it on my own. I was hoping to be over it all by christmas but I didn't quite make that.
Everyone's coming home here tomorow so there'll be a full house for a little while. I don't know how many are plaing on staying over though. There was talk about trying to go skiing on boxing day but I don't know if we'll go or not.
Sounds like it should be a blast in the deep snow. You'll be carving up a storm this winter. :D
Good to hear that you guys had a good trip. And you brought home a new toy too as a plus. Like you say though it'll sure be nice to have. Just drive em in strap em in and you don't have to worry about them. How was it to get across the border?
Good to hear Michael is having a good time up there. Dad has always wanted to go back up to thompson and take a look around. He hasn't been up there since the early 60tys when he was working up there at the mine. He's always been kind of curious to go back now and see what it looks like now 40 some years latter.
Congrats Rick and Claudette, happy early anniversary to you both. Time sure flys doesn't it.
Is your sled trailer that you're talking about the one in your pic? Wish I would've been closer, I would've given you that in a heart beat. They want a 1000 just for junk around here. I've been looking a little bit for something to haul the two quads around on.
Did you get that email that I sent you Rick??
Have a very Merry Christmas and a happy new year everyone.
Ryan
Rick K 12-25-2007, 02:07 PM Wow that sounds freaking down right nasty I do not want that...
that will be nice a little family gathering or should I say a huge family gathering... go skiing Ryan it's a blast....skiing I used to do it when I lived in Thunder Bay we used to look out our living room window right at the ski hill.....now I look at the flat land ...boy "o" boy what's wrong with this picture...
it was last night we where pounding some huge drifts Michael & myself we had a blast he said he could not see me then all he could see was a light then the sled then me on it..we put on a few miles but we are heading out soon...
I will try to rember to take the camera today to get some pictures of the new toys and hauler...
I used a broker no big problem with trailer...all depends what kind of mood the people are in...if they want to give you a hard time get ready if they want to be nice great...
He likes it he staying with the bother in-law who owns the company so I know he is well taken care off.he goes back to school in April for the next level.
Thank you Ryan
yes it is ...yes trailer are high here too Marc bought it the director of training...he is a buddy so I have to take care of him....he just bought a 600 ski doo yesterday and another one last week for his wife ski doo 800 4 stroke 2 up 06....Marc help me us get ours across the boarder doing paper work with the broker well we shopped and relaxed thanks Marc...
yes that was one real great email I even sent it to my Highways buds they will get a laugh out of it that for sure..
you guys have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year Ryan..
I'm lessening to Led- Zeppelin new Cd the MOTHERSHIP as I do this post what a rocker makes me want to ride so I will...I wish I could lessen to this as we ride wow she kicks brings back memories when I was a kid rocking to this stuff...it even comes with a cd ...someone said they are coming to Minneapolis next year that would be cool to see...

Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 12-28-2007, 07:12 PM The new nitro sure looks sharp Rick. The new trailer too for that matter. How do you like the new duramax so far? Good to hear you guys are puting on some miles now. I was out for a rip again the other day. Didn't go to far but had a little bit of fun anyways.
Cold is still hanging on, just can't shake this darn thing. I don't feel to bad now at least though. Dad is still having a little bit of trouble sleeping though. It settles in overnight pretty bad.
Had the whole family home on Christams day. Didn't make it skiing though. Only my one brother his wife and two kids stayed over and they weren't feeling 100% either so we didn't bother at all. Would've been fun to go out there again but maybe another day this winter.
Wow, that would've been pretty sweet, looking out at the ski hill. I would've been out there all the time. I used to go allot when I was younger but the last few years I haven't been. Mostly because I haven't had anyone to go with. Mom and dad used to drop me off at the hill though when they went to the bush. I'd ski all day and they'd pick me up at around 5:00 in the afternoon. Tried snowboarding a few times too but I haven't done enough of it to get any good at it yet. It's a very painful at first because all you do is fall down.lol... It's allot of fun though once you catch onto it.
Sounds like you guys were having a blast. I enjoy doing that too. There's one aproach near me too that makes a very nice little jump. It's all fluffy snow so when you land you don't even really notice it. Was make a perfect 3 point landing everytime there the other day. I used to do stunts too a little bit. Got to the point where I could do a full stretch superman on the sled while in the air but the last few years I haven't done that at all.
That's probably the easiest way to get it across. If I buy across the border I'd like to do it all my self and try to save a couple of bucks only problem is trying to get everything figured out so you don't make any mistakes.
I wasn't to sure if the email went therw or not. Our email is still acting up on us. Tried to send you pics of that cat the other day but it wouldn't go threw for me. I found out a little bit more info on that house, It hapend near Calgary from what I can gather. No info on the rescue though. Would be a awfully big bill though I'm sure.
You guys too.
You're going to have to get a hook up for your i pod for in your helmet must be some eays way of doing it. They you'll really act up out there though. :D
Ryan
Rick K 12-30-2007, 07:06 AM Thanks Ryan....all I can say for the Duramax is sweet sums it up so far....I think today I will be over 500 k's just little runs Claudette & myself went yesterday for a 80 k run very nice out....ran into another couple form our local snowmobile club they where telling us they bought a new groomer so we have our own groomer now...that explains why the trails are the best I have ever seen then.
that sucks I sure hope it does not show up here, the air gets heavy at night ....I remember that from my drilling days night time would get more footage then day shift would ...the air...
that is great the whole family made it home, Just Claudette, Michael & myself spent it together pretty quite...to bad you did not get out to ski thought....maybe next time eh...
Yes I sure miss the view we had out the front window...that's one thing I have never done is the snowboard....yes it looks like it....
yes it was ...to much for me the stunts...
it cost for the broker 110.00 so that is not bad in my eyes the paper work was just about done except on thing...wrong name it was under company name which was not that big of a deal to fix up.....after explaining what happen...
yes it did that was a great on eh....to bad would like to see it ....did you buy it the cat...
that I would be nice ....
but remember Claudette won one of them snow phones that you talk back to each other I was thinking of digging it out and getting another one to match it so we can talk but then?????? ha ha ...
well after to days run I will have the sled broke in ready to rock boy does it fly it eats up the bumps unreal I sure like it....it hard to keep the front end down it has power...
have a great new years all the best....

Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 12-30-2007, 10:41 AM I'm only at about 50 kms or around there so far. Haven't been out on any longer runs yet. Was thinking about going out yesterday or today but our big overhead door needs to be fixed so I can get the yamaha out. I lifted it up to get the skidder out the other day and it stuck there. Got it back down now but I had to undo the springs and we took off the bottom rollers were the cable hooks onto. Going to try and get everything straightend out and get it all back together. Priced out a new door for it and by the time it was all said and done if we got someone else to install it we'ld probably be awful close to 4,000.
The house was pretty busy for a while but it was okay to have everyone together for a little bit. Usually only hapens once a year so it's okay for a little while.
That's not to bad. That way you know everything is all done up right and you don't have to worry about it.
We haven't bought it yet. We're still scared as to weither we should spend the extra money or not. There isn't exactly lots of it around right now. But on the other hand we really need it for up in the bush. Hopefully we can make a decision begening of the week so we can get something going one way or another. We need to get started in the bush pretty quick.
You never know what she might have to say to you then ehh. :D
Are you guys still planing a sled trip on new years for your anniversary??
Good to hear that you like it. I'ld like to have something new too but untill I get some more inportant things a new sled is going to have to wait. Got to see about this cat and then a newer vehicle for me to drive.
Great picture Rick.
Ryan
Rick K 12-30-2007, 05:15 PM well you will get going soon Ryan...talk about a hit just something you don't expect eh Ryan that is not nice 4,000 for a door...
Family is very important enjoy them well you have them this is so true....
no that is just what I thought...
I here you dammed if you do dammed if you don't...
SLOW DOWN if I was a betting man...ha ha...
who knows right now.....everything is up in the air right now very sad news my dad just passed away this afternoon cancer....mom on December 25 last year and now dad December 30 ....nasty time of the year eh...I'm speech less...
Rick :(
poor farmer/logger 12-30-2007, 07:03 PM I don't think that I'll do as much riding this year as I have other years. Not that other years I've done much either but now if we get going in the bush I most likely wont have much time to go. I would like to drive up to the bush for a change but we'll have to see. It might not be quite that much but I think it'd be pretty close. Basic price for the door was 2200 I think and that was without windows. I think to add 4 more it's another couple hundred bucks. Then another 600 or so to install it plus mileage and then all the taxes. Plus a few incedentals and I think you'd be up there pretty quick. We've got the door fixed up again for now but I think we're going to have to do something with it sooner then latter. We need a higher door now anyways because we can't get the volvo in the shop. We had to take it over to a friends place that happens to be a mechaninc to get our new webasto heater installed. That's sure a slick little unit. It's diesel fired with a 7 day timer. You program it to cut in 2 hours before you're going to get there and when you get there the engine is nice and toasty. Turn the key on and you've got instant heat. I think it's going to work out good for us in the bush.
You are definatley right there Rick. That's what Christams has turned into for me. It's a time for the family to get to gether. I've always wanted to get everyone home one summer and go for a family ride on the bikes but everyone is always busy and no one seems to ever make it. Everyone in the family has quads or dirt bikes and enough to go around so that's not a problem but everyone always has something on the go it seems.
That sums it up pretty good, I hope we can make it work as I've always wanted to have my own cat to play with but we'll have to see I guess. We've got a little bit of brush cutting to do on our land so it would be good to have it for that as well.
I'm very sorry to hear that Rick. My condolences to you and your family. That sure is some nasty stuff that cancer. You can't talk to one person that hasn't been afected by it one way or another.
Ryan
Rick K 12-31-2007, 06:55 AM yes time it is a thing we do not have enough of how true is that...yes we get dinged too on everything like that you live in the country you pay mileage...sucks...no kidding it is ne sweet unit you can buy them for the Duramax..you will love it...
I here you but they should make the time to come home and enjoy life and mom & dad & each other....because one day someone will not be there then they will say boy we should have done something together...
nothing wrong with buying the cat but remember they are big bucks to fix....even if you find someone who has hit one on the head (parting out) good luck direct start or pup motor..
thank you Ryan 1 year and 5 days after mom passed away....make this time of the year no fun...and I love the winter but this just sucks...
I went for a drive last night it was just like last year all over again it was even snowing out lightly....
well off to the exercise bike for my ride then to the gym which I love to do then back home for a sled ride with Claudette on our 25th...did I tell you our snowmobile club bought a groomer our trails our real nice right now...so I think I will put some miles on today to clear my head...any how take care and enjoy life ....
Rick
poor farmer/logger 01-01-2008, 10:52 AM The heater is acting up on us again. It's funny, when it's somewhat warm out it'll work fine but when it gets down below -20 or so then it wont pump the antifreeze threw at all. The guy who did it is coming over here to lower it I think. He mounted it higher then it was suposed to be and I think that might be part of the problem.
That's one reason why we've been scared to buy a old cat. This one has basically 0 hrs on a fresh rebuilt engine and both final drives were done at the same time. Also a new or newer rad. Transmission and torque seemed to work good when I took it out for a drive. It shifts quick and no strange noises so I think all is okay in there. It's a direct start high horse engine.
Sure makes a happy time of the year into a sad one I'm sure. This year will go better for you though.
Probably no better way for you to just get away from things for a while. That's great, now you'll have table top smouth trails all the time ehh. In a way I wish I had some nice groomed trails on my doorstep. It'd sure be nice to get out and go. Wouldn't have to buck the deep snow, I could just put along or go fast to I supose trails permiting.
Ryan
Rick K 01-01-2008, 04:09 PM to bad I hope it works out for you guys....does it get to thick ....maybe another part of the problem...I miss the heat from ours...wish we had a woodstove inside...
well I hope it works for many years if if get it should do a toque stall to check it out ask sawmill how to do it...sounds like a good machine though...Diesel doctor is another cat expert he is still working for Glen...
yes you got that right Ryan...I sure hope your right Ryan...
wow it does wonders for me cleans the head we had a great ride put on about 80 k's Claudette & myself...then went took Michael out for dinner in the bight lights we had a great time the 3 of us...yes the groom trailer are sweet right out our door..they are very nice to ride on....my sled is broke in now yippee...
the deep snow is fun to play in sometimes...it seems to be alot more sled out and about these day just seems to be more & more people doing it....and alot more Yamaha's around here too have never seen this many they almost seem to be the number one sled around here...but don't take me wrong still lot's of cat's & ski doo's too..
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 01-01-2008, 06:22 PM I'm hoping that once we get it lowered all will be good again. Our wood stove was leaking agian the otherday. Ash pan was full of water. Just left it alone though and it sealed it self up again for now.
That's where you push in the brakes to hold it in place and put it in gear and open the throttle up the right?? Was going to try it but I forgot to plus they didn't have the exhaust pipe on and anytime I opend it up a little I got a little bit of black smoke in my face. Not bad but a little. The only thing really wrong with that old E that I know of is it's going to need some undercariage work. The rails aren't to bad but the pads and the top rollers are getting pretty short. Rest seemed pretty solid. The one wishbone had been welded up and seemed to be holding okay, that was the only weld that I could find on it.
Good to hear Rick, I went out for a little rip today but I've still got a bit of a clunking sound coming from the front of the track. I think Iv'e got the limiter straps up to high and it's not puting enough pressure on the front of the track. When I sit on the sled the front of the track gets real loose. Only time I hear the noise is if I'm turning real sharp at low speeds. Can't find anything else wrong yet so I'm assuming that's what the problem is. Have to get it in the other end of the shop so I can work on it easier. Where it is right now is all wet from the trailer that we just put in the shop so I can't work on it there.
I find it fun for a little while but I get sick of all the snow coming up over the windshiled and in my face and all over the sled pretty quick. I like to carve threw the deep snow. Was really good at it for a while then went a few winters without doing it and I've been trying to get caught back up again ever since. There's been allot more sleds around here too so far this winter. They seem to be making a come back again. I think the main reason is we're starting to get some snow again for ridding on. Quite a few years around here the wasn't much snow to ride on at all. Haven't seen to many Yamaha's though. Mostly Ski Doo and Polaris around here. Not sure why that is but that's what I've been seeing. Haven't been out to any majour sled spots so it may be differnat in other parts but that's what I've seem mostly riding up and down the ditches.
Ryan
Rick K 01-02-2008, 08:57 AM I sure hope it works out for you guys when you lower it I was talking to guy guy the other day when we where sledding he bought a outdoor woodstove he has had it running for 15 years another guy has bought his the same time.....he has had lot's of leaks this other guy but the 1st guy he drains his every year he runs straight water.....it's just the luck of the draw...I still want a indoor woodstove period.....
yes that's it ....undercarriage is a problem with the older ones I can remember just watching the tracks when operating that's how bad they where....only look at the blade once or twice...once the wish bone has been broken it has to be lined up right or the ware will increase...I would price out a undercarriage just for the heck of it...or try to find a good used one...
well that great she has been a good sled for you eh...yes we will be riding some more right away...
yes I here you...it fun sometime not all the time....well we will see this weekend if we go to the derby in Stony Mountain I will take my camera to see what is out there...going to warm up again .....-25 out right now...
Rick
poor farmer/logger 01-02-2008, 07:59 PM You're going to have to talk nice to Claudette about that one ehh.lol.. There sure is nothing else that compares to the heat of a nice wood fire. My brother is just about completley heating his house and 2 car detached garage with wood. He's sure happy with it. If you're going to buy a wood stove though don't cheap out at all. My brother bought a expensive one for his house and a cheaper one for his garage and he said there is just no comparison. It's un real how much heat that little stove he has in his basement throws off. I don't know what brand it is but it's sure been good for him.
I'd rate the under carriage at about 40-50% on average. Some parts are worse and some are better. It's good enough for us to run for a few years. It's corcked up though and rides rougher the heck right now. I keep on trying to send you a pic but so far no luck. New 24"x2 3/4" grousers were 3300 bucks I think. Complete U/C is about 12,000 for that machine I think. That's if a guy went crazzy and put everything brand new in there. It uses the same u/c as the 7f and 7g so there's quite a bit of used stuff out there too.
It's been pretty good. I don't have that teribly many kms on it but it's getting old now. It just turned over 7,000 kms last spring but it's 10 years old this year. it had 2200 kms on it when we bought it. That was in the spring of 2001 I think. So I've had basically 6 winters riding on it. It does need some work done to it but there isn't enough in my budget to do it this year. Got to take care of some other things first. Was going to put some more money into it this winter but I didn't make enough to do it.
Cold here too, and blowing something terible. South wind though so hopefully it blows in some warm air. Suposed to be thawing in the next little bit they say. Hopefully it warms up for you so you can put some miles on.
Ryan
Rick K 01-03-2008, 05:19 AM I don't think that will happen anytime soon Ryan I think I could talk till I'm blue in the face and it will not work...we had a few in side woodstoves over the years and you are right buy a good one we had a cheap one .....put wood in it every 3 to 4 hours.....then a good one 10 to 12 hours .....
that's not bad long as you can make money with it to buy a used or new undercarriage when it due...
wow that's not that many eh ...I think I have just over 12,000 on the RX1 when she went down the road...6 winter is great that is for sure....we went looked at some helmets yesterday them bvs2 ski doo ones they are unreal but then so is the price...I think in time we will be getting a few the heated ones are fogging up sometimes and that drives me nuts.....
yes she was cold but the south wind started blowing last night and it was hard coming home the ground drifting...it has warmed right up -9 out right now and by the weekend they say 0 out....
Rick :D
yammerhammer7 01-03-2008, 12:14 PM Hey guys just wanted to wish you all a Happy New Years! So far did pretty good sledding over the holidays and put about 550 miles on so far...So can't complain with a start like that. Only problem I see coming up is the Asquith Poker Rally is on this weekend and Friday and Saturday is suppose to be plus 2...So might not have any snow left if that happens....Snow conditions sure aren't the greatest here yet. Well I hope you all had a great Christmas cuz I had the best one yet! New years was a different story and not to mention I hit a deer with my truck on the 30th so it will probably be written off:( Well have a good one and will talk to you guys later.
poor farmer/logger 01-04-2008, 06:43 PM Hi Jordan, good to hear that you're putting on some miles. I'm going to try and do some adjustments on my suspension and then go play in some of the new drifts from all that wind the other day. No shortage of snow up here at all. To much in the bush for me really but we're going to have to work with it somehow I guess.
Bankers have been screwing us around the last week now. Was dealing with one person and now they say we can't deal with them anymore and we have to deal with this other guy. Now he's taking off on vacation for three weeks. Just our luck I guess. So by the looks of it there'll be no cat in our near future I don't think. We've got to get going here, we can't wait around for other people.
Sorry to hear about your truck. Sure lots of them little buggers out there.
Ryan
Rick K 01-06-2008, 12:49 PM Them guys they make you mad eh...try somewhere else that might get there attention maybe...

Rick
poor farmer/logger 01-06-2008, 10:51 PM Awfully tempted to see what else is out there. It's hard to change when you've been dealing with the same bank though for the last 40 + years. Wish I didn't have to have anything to do with them but it's just a fact of life now that you can't do anything without them so you're stuck.
You're just a racking up the miles now ehh. Good to hear though. Nice pics. Sure a variety in the pack by the looks of it. Even a few lonely Yamaha's. :D Think I've put on a whole 80 kms this winter so far. It was unreal out on Sat. Probably be the warmest day this winter. Got up around +2 or something like that. I was out on my quad for a ride on Thursday. Drove around the block and had a look around. Went threw a back road that no one but sleds had been on. Stoped once on the way home and put my mits over the end of the exhaust. Matter of 10 sec. or so and they are nice and toasty inside. Had my dirt bike out on Sat. as well. I hadn't had a chance before to get it winterised so I took it out and put on about 5 miles. Was kind of fun to get back on it for a change. Roads were icy though so I had to be carefull. Was fishtailing a couple times but kept the rubber side down so all was okay.
When do you have to go back to work?
Got everything set to go up to the bush now. Skidder is all loaded up and waiting to go. I've got to haul out the rest of my wheat first though so it'll probably be Wed. before we get moved up there.
Ryan
Rick K 01-11-2008, 11:55 AM I would Ryan and let them know your looking too and that your not happy with the way the do business.
yes there are more and more Yamaha's showing up on the trail...good for you it is nice to get out just to have any kind of ride eh.....I haven't even looked at mine in sometime I have not even put the blade on it yet after building up the driveway it sure helps keep the thing clean.....boy you are using all your toys good for you...
went back on the 7 th off today it's dads funeral today at 2:00 pm at his golf course....
we had some rain last Saturday night or Sunday morning not good...snowing last night went out for a rip on my sled the groomer was out today sweet is the word for riding on.....had the Nytro in the shop for some work oil change stump pan shock covers and I even picked up Claudette a tank bag for she would stop filling mine up ha ha...I think I'm around 975 last night...
Steve & the boys want to go out tonight for a ride I like to head to the river tonight...but time will tell....
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 01-11-2008, 08:19 PM Finally got moved up to the bush today. Loaded the skidder up on our goose neck trailer and I pulled it up with the volvo. I pulled it up to where we are logging and unloaded it there. We didn't have anywhere to pull the logs into so I had to push a road into the bush a little ways and then push out some poplar trees and some pine. Nothing to big at all but it was still slow going. I was sure wishing I had that d7 up there. Would've had it all done in half a hour.
Haven't had any snow lately here thankfull. I guess I shouldn't say any, we've had a couple of little snow falls. Just enough to cover the ground again but nothing majour at all. No rain either thankfull.
You're sure putting on the miles ehh. Good to hear though. Haven't been out on the yamaha at all lately. Just that little ride last week. Still got to do some more looking into it. Still some funny noises coming from it. Haven't got time right now to look at it though so it will most likely have to sit for a while.
Would've moved up to the bush on wed. but we had to haul dad's quad down to my brother to get fixed up. He's going to go threw the engine for him. It's been burning oil now for a couple of years so dad finally decided to get it fixed up.
Hope you get out for a nice night ride. Sure is a different would out there in a way in the dark. I always get kind of a weird feeling going across a field in the pitch black with just light ahead of you.
Ryan
Rick K 01-12-2008, 07:48 AM good show now the chips are going to fly...how far do you have to haul your equipment Ryan...I here you a D-7 would make things alot faster...how many cords do you guys plan on doing...
yes we get little bites too....with lot's of fog ....
I love to ride to other night I went up the groom trail which runs right by our house put on about 45 k's...lot's of time it's hard to find someone to ride with...I did not go out with Steve last night....the sled stayed parked today I hope to go for a ride...
good show them are great and tuff quads eh...it must have a ton of miles on it..
I don't mind it long as the Deere stay away we do not need to be hitting one of them like last Saturday on the river coming home looking back to make sure Claudette was coming and turn back and well hello ms Deere it was close...
hey did I tell you I bought a BVS2 helmet not bad guy riding a Yamaha wearing a Ski-Doo helmet to funny I guess it's time to put some Yamaha stickers on it...
looks like I'm off to Swan River, Dauphin, the park land region for a few weeks we have a big thing going on up there...so I might be out of touch for a few weeks back at the beginning of February then hope to take some more time off...and sled..I will go some place...leaving Monday maybe...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 01-12-2008, 08:29 PM It's only about 20 miles. Took me pretty much 1 hr. to drive the volvo up to where I unloaded the skidder. We've got about 650 cords to cut. I don't think we'll take it all this winter though. Plan is to cut about half of it.
I know what you mean about finding someone to ride with. You've got a abundance though compared to my neibours. No one rides any more right around me. Used to have some friends that rode but they took off to Ab. so I don't even see them anymore.
Sounds like a awful close call with the deer. Definatley don't want to run into one of them at night with your sled.
You said you were looking but hadn't bought one yet. So how do you like it? Any more comfortable or any other majour differances? Better get them stickers on there quick. :D
You should take your sled with you. Can't work all the time ya know. :D At least you're talking of places that I know and have been to now.lol.. Guy from Dauphin was trying to sell us a D7F a while back but we never did get back to him. Had to many people tell us to stay away from that series. Have a good safe trip if I don't hear from you again for a while.
Spent the day up in the bush today again. Got a start now anyways. Still trying to get back into it though. Everyone is stiff and sore tonightl. I'm not real bad but I can feel it in my back and the inside of my left elbow. That's from pulling chooker cables all day though I think. it's hard work draggin those cables around.
Ryan
Rick K 01-13-2008, 12:15 PM That not to bad eh....nice little drive in the morning...wow that's some cutting to do ....what do you make out of it mostly...
that's why we have 2 of thing someone will go in the family..it's not that bad you can find people to ride with just the other night a ski doo was riding behind me I guess I could have stopped and talked to him and did a small ride together...
yes I did not like it..
well last night Claudette &myself went out the BVS2 was ok but her heated fogged again so we went back home and we brought out our Quad helmets with goggles....well it has been over 20 years since I used this set up well it works unreal I think I might start using this system again..Claudette like it too...as for the BVS2 it's good you just have to get it set just right for it to work right....you must remember people we do live where it gets alot colder then 15 or 20 below zero..you can buy a heated visor for them it's around 200.00....
I would but it's going to be busy very busy...
sounds like a workout to me... how deep is the snow..
when I'm done this drive I want to take sometime off I still have banked time plus holidays left over and go away to do some sledding for a good few weeks...maybe west who knows...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 01-13-2008, 10:51 PM It's not to bad, but the 2 miles into our landing isn't so nice, you can get in now in 2wd but it's still pretty rough and you're bouncing around a bit. It's enough to keep us busy, that's for sure. :D We cut rough dimensional lumber. Mostly 1x4,1x6,1x8 and the same in 2". Lenghts are 8,10,12,14,16 and 18'. For us it gets harder to cut anything longer then 18' as the saw starts to wander at the end of the tree. We don't have a long enough carriage(thing the log sits on) and there isn't enough suport at the end of the tree. The saw will actually push or pull and go out at the end of the tree.
Forgot to say before about dad's quad, it's got 15,500 kms on it now. He does allot of start and stop driving with it though and allot of idleing time so there's probably allot more hours on it then normal. CN yard has rumoured to have a couple of Honda 450S quads that have over 40,000 kms before they were had it. It's been a really good quad for dad though, other then starters and battery's he hasn't put a penny into it. Regular maintenace of course but nothing else.
I always thought those heated visors didn't fog up. Never had one personally though so I didn't know at all. Good to know though. I've just got a plain ol vented snowmobile helmet. For the most part it's been pretty good and only fogs up when I'm going slow. If it's real cold out the bottom of it fogs up a bit. I always leave it open just a bit though. Seems to help allot. That's sure allot of money to put into a helmet. I guess if you're doing a ton of riding though it would probably pay off.
Some spots there's only a foot but when you get back into the heavier bush there's about 18-20". It's not to bad but it is a bit of work getting to the bottom of the tree sometimes. We were up there again today and I was working away on the skidder bringing trees out and all of a sudden there was a loud clunking noise. At first I thought it was just a stick but when I moved again it did it again so I got off and one of the u joints had come apart. It only turns when the wheels turn or when it's not in gear so it didn't really hurt anything. Got to find a new u joint now though and it's a bit of a odd ball. It's called a mechanics u joint and there aren't to many things that use them. It's usually a special order part.
Sounds like you'll need a break once you get threw with this new sescion.
Ryan
yammerhammer7 01-18-2008, 02:32 PM Sorry to hear about your dad Rick! Makes me think that my problems with my truck and me taking the crank out on my 2007 Polaris RMK 600 HO seem pretty petty! Well I just wanna say have a good one boys and put lots of miles on for me while I'm down...Well might have to clean the carbs on the exciter and get it back barking! Dunno if I told you but I sold my 99 Arctic Cat Powder Special and I also sold my 95 V-max... Might sell the Polaris to once I get it back together unfortunately but I really have to get a truck right away....Well thats all I know for now so have a good one and will talk to you later.
Rick K 01-20-2008, 04:02 PM Hi Ryan just got home from Dauphin have a few doctor appointments to go to heading back out on Tuesday till the end of the month...
that is a good selection of lumber you guys cut eh...
wow that sure is some miles how many did you put on..that is unreal eh what cn put on...
well they do sometimes...I like the quad helmet with the goggles I will be trying that again..
well that is a good leg work out eh...u joint that sucks just after you guys did all that work to it eh..
yes I will...
thank you Jordan and good luck to you getting your sled running again hope it is soon...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 01-21-2008, 11:20 PM Wasn't expecting to hear from ya till another couple of weeks. Do you have to go to swan river now?
We try to cut a variety but it seems to never fail, what we have isn't what people want. What we really need is 16' material. That's what sells the best for us.
I can't really say for sure, most of that though is just dad driving from the house to the shop or the sawmill. Very rarely does he take it out on the road or on trips threw the bush. The cn uses them when they're hooking up cars and transfering lines I guess. bout a mile they said. They were wrecking half tons because it's so ruff so they got them a couple of quads.
My quad helmet isn't lined very well so I don't think it would work to good for sleding. Have to buy a new one I guess. I haven't even been out on the sled lately though. Still waiting to check it over and see what's wrong with it. There's always something in the way where I want to work on it. Where it is it's to dark to try and work on. Been out on my quad a few times instead. I can drive on the old sled tracks now and go pretty well where ever they went.
Got the u joint on and all fixed up again. Haven't been up there much this last week though. Been so darn cold that we just didn't go up. We did go up last Wed. and Thurs. but Fri. was just to cold. U joint turned out to be no big deal to get. Local suplier had 3 in stock so it was just a trip to p a. Made a little hole in the stand but got a ways to go yet.
Hi Jordan, sorry to hear about your sled. Is that from the accedent yet? Or was it just something out of the blue?
Guy that I drove cat for a few summers ago stoped in the other night. Both of his last two Ski Doos blew the motor out at around 6500 miles. The one he has now is under waranty yet but he's still not very impressed. He thinks he'll be going back to yamaha sooner or latter. He went to the Ski doo's from a RX1. He's the guy that puts on probably 4-5000 miles a year. Sometimes maybe more I'm not sure.
Ryan
Rick K 01-22-2008, 07:39 AM I think so maybe towards the weekend but who knows...
I here ya on that no matter what you think they want something different eh...would be nice to take orders eh...
yes I no a quad is cheaper then a truck that is for sure...
well I think I will buy Claudette a BVS2 before we go away in feb...we will take all with us we have the room in the trailer to store stuff...I will do a little work on it before we head out..a few storage compartments in it with a few places to hang stuff...
good show glad to here that you got it fixed....no kidding it is cold out nasty...
wow that is what I want to do ....that many miles dare to dream if I only had the time...sweet..
well have to run get ready to go back up to Dauphin but must go see the doctor first and the gym so I don't have to go when I get up to Dauphin...you keep warm Ryan be safe in the bush too...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 01-23-2008, 09:56 AM We've got a few customers that will phone in a few weeks in advancec and tell us what they want. Surprisingly got a phone call last night from a fellow who is building a pole shed. Wants 18 6x6x12 and a bunch of 2x6x12. He's in no hurry though but would like them in the spring. The 6x6 is a bit of a odd size for us but I'm pretty sure we can find 18 trees that will make them.
Brother has all the parts now I think for our quad but doesn't quite have it all back together. He might still be waiting for the cylender to get re bored too yet. Not quite sure.
Be nice to have that stuff in the trailer so it's not taking up space in the truck. Do you know where you guys are going yet?
They were talking on the radio again this mornig of -34 windchills. Haven't been out yet though so I can't confirm that. To nice in the house to go out.lol..
He goes threw a new sled about every year and a half. His buddy just bought a new nytro as well so he's thinking of going yamaha as well. He's been up to churchill before from Nipawin and to Thompson from near Saskatoon.
Will try to Rick. Gets a little hairy at times where a 3000 lb tree is falling down beside you with the but end 10' in the air though. I've had a couple of close calls over the years but thankfully and luckily I've never been hurt.
Ryan
Rick K 01-28-2008, 10:51 AM good show ...it's nice not to be rushed eh ...a few 18 foot trees I think you will find them up in your area...
wow that's good eh
yes you have that right and what I want to do is put some shelves in there too with a place to hang up stuff...one place will be Asessippi wow I went out that way when I was working it's breath taking I did not think Manitoba had land like that....I was thinking of buying a cottage out that way skiing sledding tubing in the winter & summer fishing and quading what else could a person want..oh ya many to buy it ...
maybe a storm her tonight with snow .....sweet...
all I can say is wow he put's some miles on I can only wish....or dream...
I did it with Hap many years ago he got one right in the face what a mess...down in Ontario way back in the bush...we had a D-6 9-U with a winch on it we cut about 40 cords pulled it out to a landing and then the slasher came by and bucked it up into 8 foot length...
well I'm done my job up in the parkland area what a nice place I'm off to a construction show tomorrow for a few days we have a both in it....then I start holidays for a month can you say sweet...I sure can I'm looking forward to this like you would not believe...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 01-28-2008, 09:58 PM Got dad's quad back home last Thursday. My brother worked late wed. night and got it all back together so we could take it home. Runs allot better now that it's all overhauled. Cost 500 bucks to get all the parts but it should be good for a while now.
Is that out by swan river somewhere? I've never heard of it before. Thinking of retirement allready??lol.. If only money wasn't a issue in everyday life ehh.
You could be in for some real nasty weather. Been awful here today. Got a couple or 3 inches of snow with a whole bunch of wind. Was lots of blowing snow in the open and hard to see at times. Suposed to go down to around -50 tomorow with the windchill. Definatley not looking forward to that I tell ya.
Was back up in the bush over the weekend. Got a pretty good hole in the one corner of the stand now. We had one saw break down on us up there though so we only had one to work with which kind of slowed us down. Got the other one fixed up today though under waranty so it's ready to go again. Coil went out on it, and it was basically a brand new saw. It's a Husquvarna 365 saw. Had good luck with them in the past but this one had a bad coil. Lots of them had the same problem from what I heard.
I bet you'll be sleeding lots then ehh. Should rack up some miles then pretty quick.
Rick K 01-29-2008, 09:00 AM good show ...and wow is that cheap eh unreal...
yes it is Claudette & myself will be heading out that way after seeing John Cougar on the 11 th to sled and look around who knows what we might do...retirement now that would be sweet and just play right on .....wait a minute to young....dreaming again...
yes it is here as I post it started last night after I got back for my sled ride....we need some more snow though...yes it is getting cold again too..
sorry to here that about the buzz saw I used a ponnier ....always wanted a Husquvaena saw though...
sure hope we can time will tell ....Marc the directory of training wants to go for a ride this Friday with a few other guys from work should be good I hope .....I have to ride with a bunch of ski doo's though...I guess I will have to play nice though...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 01-29-2008, 09:23 PM It wasn't to bad. that was including two front boots as well.
Have been threw swan river once. Was quite a few years ago though. Made the trip up to flin flon then the pas and back threw swan river then back up to hundson bay I belive it was. That was about 12 years ago though. Don't remember to much about the trip. Remember we went into hood logging in swan river and looked around. Guy in the back was fabing up a front end loader for a 4wd tractor. Should be some nice spots to sled though I imagine. Have they got a groomed trail system at all?
Local logging contractor is up at sheridon this year logging. They say the bridge is under reapair though so they couldn't haul anything out except by rail.
Sure wasn't very warm out today, that's for sure. I was out most of the afternoon though working outside. Pushed out a bunch of snow with the skidsteer again and shoveled out the one end of the shop. THere was a great big drift across the door outside so I pushed out what I could with the skid steer and shoveled the rest out. We've got tines mounted on the bucket otherwise I could've just draged it back away from the door. Sure would've been easier.
We've had pretty good luck with them but I guess Husky screwed up on this one. Updated part for it though and they don't even make the old one anymore.
Hopefully you don't have to pull to many of them home Rick. :D After talking with the guy I worked for I'm not so sure about them anymore.
Ryan
Rick K 02-01-2008, 09:22 AM wow that's great in my eyes..
well I'm trying to get closer so we could sled or quad together...it's unreal...
nice country up there rocky thought ..hudbay rail line...that line goes up to Lynn Lake though puck first though..
yes as soon as it warms up the wind picks up eh but what else is new ha ha..
well it's down to 1 Yamaha 2 ski doos we are planning to go across lake Winnipeg but we will see if the wind is up no because it can get real nasty out there...well today is the first day of my holidays sweet...and my cell phone is off too...so my land line ring someone from work...so I unplugged it ha ha..take that holidays what part do you not understand...
we have tickets to John Cougar on the 11 th then we are out of here up to Russell Asessippi to look at the cottage area and do some sledding ...then maybe over to spruce woods...then the white shell into Minnesota...
looks like I'm training in march...but I do have to get out to Alberta to take a course sometime soon...to do with training
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-01-2008, 05:32 PM Swan River is a little over 3 hours from here. Think it's about a hour or so from Hudson Bay from what I can remember. Hudson bay is a little over 2 hours from here. So wouldn't be to bad of a drive. Sure would be fun to get together for a quad ride some time. Don't think the old yamaha is up to a long run though. Not till I get the rest of it fixed up anyways. Haven't even been out on it much this winter. Was out on my quad again today though. It was about -22*C but it wasn't to bad out. Stoped a couple of times to warm up and move around a little bit just to keep the blood flowing. Didn't get frost bite at all though. The power comapan had been out here pulling out one of their old lines so they had snow plowed out one of the roads that I hadn't been thew in a long time. So I managed to make a trip around the block. Had to push thew some deep drifts at first but after I got therw that It was easy going. They had even crossed the creek with the back hoe. He had broke threw the ice in one spot but he may have been just trying to see how thick it was. Un real though where those little things will go. He went down the beaver dam and back up the creek bed. There's only a couple of feet of water left in it so the bank was pretty steep. Was about 2' of snow threw there too. He actually followed one of my sled tracks threw there.
Never been that far north at all but have heard that it's awfully rocky.
Uh oh, you're out numbered Rick :D I can imagine that it would get prety nasty pretty quick. It's pretty much wide open there isn't it?
Good for you Rick, got to get away from it all ehh.
Where abouts in Ab. is your training course? Maybe you can meet up with Lance. He's got a beautiful house North of Camrose. I think Iv'e got the coordinates for his place on my GPS if you want them. Have to double check but I think they're still there.
Sounds like you'll have a busy holiday. Should be a good concert.
Ryan
Rick K 02-02-2008, 11:38 AM well Claudette & myself are heading up to Asessippi to look at the lot's this moth it's between Roblin and Russell one sweet spot to see here is a link Ryan..
http://www.asessippicove.ca/
I have not had one of the quads out this winter I have not even put the blade on mine yet not enough snow to clean but enough to sled though..
that's what we used to use on winter roads to start the frost was a sled you would be surprised how much frost they put into the ground it's unreal...
that's just on the other side of Flin Flon before Cranberry Portage...then the turn off to puck and sheritton
yes it is we did not go that way because the wind was up so we went inland it was a sweet ride we went about 275 and it was snowing we went Pertersfield, Matlock, Winnipeg Beach and Gimli then inland to Inwood, Stonewall, Stony Mountain and last Russ place in West St Paul then home...all in all it was a great day...we are going to do one from our place then Marc's place down in St Jean ....
sure is
have to ask Marc...I still talk to Lance we email back in forth
well I hope it is relaxing ....yes we seen him many years ago he was great warm up is Tom Cochran...
it's got cold again...-28..
Troy gave me a real cool 40th sled thing here is a few pictures of it cool eh...2 nytro toy sleds

Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-02-2008, 02:59 PM Looks like a nice place. Sure some pricy cabins though ehh. We've got a quarter of land that has alot of white spruce on it that I've always wanted to build a log cabin on. Would be just a beautiful spot for it. We'd never use it though so really not much point to do it I guess. It's not to teribly far from here. Still a good 4 hour drive though I supose.
Just enough to pack the snow down I guess so the frost can go in I guess. After this cold snap I would think that a person could drive just about anything on the lakes now. With all this wind that we had it's pretty well blown the snow off the lakes so it should've froze down pretty good.
Sounds like you guys had a good ride. Did you swap sleds at all?? I see one of the new Revs siting there. That's a pretty neat little keepsake that troy gave you. Sure a big diferance in pistons.
Starting to warm up here again. Haven't been up in the bush though since last sunday. Just been to cold. Thinking maybe tomorow we'll go up and try to get everything going. It's going to take a while though and the oil is going to be teribly thick in the volvo.
Ryan
Rick K 02-04-2008, 08:25 AM yes it is the best spot I have seen in along time...when you look around at cottages it's not that bad.
on lake Winnipeg the snow was good but lot's of pressure ridges the ice is moving lot's with the winds...
it was a great ride they want to do another one soon from our place then one from Marc's place...we might go down to Marc's this weekend Claudette & myself he said the trails are great down his way right by the border ST Jean..no we did not trade sleds...the new rev is Marc's..yes the pistons do have a big difference eh..
good the snow most of the day here yesterday and was nice out I work on the sled trailer putting hooks to hang stuff on and the spare tire holder put one in the trailer too...have a few more things to do before we go away...

Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-04-2008, 07:57 PM I guess it's not cheap to build a new cabin. Did you read threw the ruels at all? I started brining them up but it was 14 pages long so I gave up.
Sounds like you guys have a few trips planed out.
Lucky guy. Never really travelled anywhere yet. Been to Toronto once and that's as far away as I've gotten. Mom's going on a big trip this spring though with my sister. They're taking off for London for 5 days then to Stolckhome(sp??) for another 11 days. They're both looking forward to it. Mom was hesitant about going but everyone she talked to told her to take the opurtunity and go.
Didn't actually watch it at all but heard they one over the undefeated team Right? We don't watch much sports at all. I used to watch a bit of hockey when it was in the finals when i was in school but haven't even watched that since I graduated.
Little over a week now since we've even been up there. Geting sick of this cold weather but it's just been to cold to try and get everything going. All we've been using to heat the skidder is the block heater and that takes for ever and the volvo has such heavy hydraulic and transmision oil in it that we don't run it when it gets cold out. It's just to hard on the pumps and everything else.
Ryan
Rick K 02-05-2008, 11:39 AM no you have that right but it not to bad as you can see the pricing on them. I talked to the guy yesterday we will be meeting him next week up at Asessippi. I read most of the paper work it's like a condo set up...rules and regs..nothing we can't live with...
yes we do... I took Michael to T.O. once to the hockey Hall of Fame real nice to see sky dome and a leafs game ...
wow your lucky mom and sister unreal that would be sweet trip to go on...
yes they did..that's all I watch with the news the sitcoms I can't watch that stuff maybe if I'm real board I might sit with Claudette and sneak a peek that's about it...
once it warms up then you guys can give her...I here ya to cold...
well of to the city to get my new trailer paper work done on it (safety) so everything is legal...then of to the gym..
Steve & Bill wants to go for a Wednesday night ride then a poker derby this weekend ....mark has another one this weekend too he want us to go in...when it rains it pours
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-05-2008, 09:12 PM I got the impresion that the cabins were on provincial land, is that right? One of my brothers friends dad has a deal like that at lower fishing lake on the hansen lake road. He's got a life time lease that is transferable I believe
I went with our School Band back in 2002. Every 3 years the school band goes on a big trip. We decided to go to toronto. Just about went to Hawaii but it was just after 911 and everything was up in the air yet as to what was going on plus it was quite a bit more as I remember. 7 dats in toronto with our plane ticket cost me just a hare over 1000 dollars. It was so cheap that I couldn't say no. That included usually 2 meals a day and entrance to all the tourist spots. We went to the Hockey Hall of fame a jays game in the hard rock cafe and all the other tourist spots. One thing that was pretty neat though was the midevil times. They reincat the castle days with the knights fighting. They had 4 differant knights and there was 4 differant sections in the arena. One for each night. Our night was the drunk one.lol.. He almost made it all the way threw though. THey were riding on horse back with the long pointy things. Can't remember right now what they're called. Then they'd fight on the ground till one of them had been slayed.
I watch some of the sitcoms and some of the series but don't usually go out of my way to watch them. Got a few shows that I like to watch and try to make a point of seeing but I don't cry over it at all if I don't get to see them.
Was all set to go up to the bush this morning but I went out to fire up the wood stove and that's as far as we got all day. I started to fill it up and all of a sudden it started pouring water our of a old crack. So today was the day to get that fixed. Drained the water off so we coule get in there to weld it up. Dad got the job because he's the one that does all the welding. Awfull awkward spot to get into though. Had trouble getting the fire out completely too. It actually ended up catching in the creasut in the top of the stove. That burnt for quite a little while. Got real hot too. Eventually got it welded up again though and it's holding for now. Hopefully it doesn't start leaking again. But I'm afraid that it's just going to start some place else. It hadn't actually rusted threw at all, it had cracked the steel. Was abotu a 2 inch crack just inside the door. Plan is to go up there tomorow and the next couple of days again.
Kind of crazzy ehh, have to safety a brand new trailer. Meanwhile the guy with the old one with no brakes and bald tires caries on without a care in the world.
Saw on the news tonight that you guys had a bad accedent out there. Dad had it on the Mb. news and the had a clip of it on there.
You'll be puting on all sorts of miles by the sounds of it. Glanced over at your total kms and you're getting up there pretty good now. I've put on just about 100 kms. :D Think I've put more miles on my quad then the sled this winter.
Ryan
Rick K 02-06-2008, 09:37 AM Yes you are right 99 year....yes good old Hansen lake road boy I sure would like to tour the area again it has been years....I would include Michaels name on it...
cool place to tour eh the hockey hall of fame...sky dome was cool too...so was the cn tower huge eh...flat Lander meets concert...
well that sucks a leak just makes me mad thinking about it..I do miss the heat though..
well let's say money grap ha ha....I think that might sum it up I have never seen anything done like this hell I could have done that...taken the paper work print the serial number place the tire sizes dam they did not even look at the lights to see if they work that is true...but it is done I'm good to go...so what I should do is find a dealer in Canada and find out how much I really saved there is one in Selkirk..
was that the one where the car went off the bridge on to the red river ....they said snow banks was the cause I guess just hit it right off the bridge on to the river top down ...person (lady) bad shape..
just wait till you get a new sled you will do just like you did with your quad...
Talked to a guy yesterday who went state side bought 3 sleds not brand new but close to it ....well he can't put plates on it with snow pass he needs a letter saying all the up dates have been done from Polaris...he is still waiting for it...he bought them before Christmas...that sucks...so you say you want to go state side to buy ....wow things are not always greener on the other side of the fence...
well off to the city have most of my stuff done just a few thing to get done...hope to go for a ride tonight with Steve & bill ...and on Thursday with Rob the guy I work with..
Rick :D

poor farmer/logger 02-06-2008, 10:31 PM Would be fun to meet up at lower fishing lake or little bear somewhere in that area and spend a day or two quading. I was up there once on my dirt bike riding. It was a little muddy and swampy for it though. Came back and my poor little dirt bike and myself were plastered in mud. Of course I forgot my extra clothes at home. Luckily my brothers freinds dad has a washing machine and dryer at there place so I washed them all off with the garden hose and threw them in the washing machine. Wore a pair of my brothers shorts and my t shirt. Was a little cold out though. Was still fun over all though. We put on about 100 miles that day. Went threw some spots that I didn't even think I could get threw with my little bike. I didn't even get stuck in the mud holes. Only problem was I'd catch up to the quads that were going threw it and I'd have to wait again for a bit. That would be a good idea I think to put micheals name on it. Then it's there for ever basically
It's quite the building that it's in. Got my picture taken with the stanley cup anyways. The glass floor was pretty neat in the cn tower. Look straight down for 1200 feet or something like that. Some of the people I was with couldn't bring themselves to go out on it. We went out on the maid of the mist too at Niagra Falls. That was pretty coold to go out to the ege of the falls. I would've liked to have gone down in the tunnels though and see it from another view.
That sums it up pretty good. Easy money that's for sure.
So far it's good so hopefully it'll stay good for a while now.
Yes, that's the one I was thinking of. Sounded pretty serious on the news. Sounds like she was going to fast though too maybe.
I was looking on ebay and found the identical sled to yours in montana. Curent bid price was 7500 and buy it now was 8500 I think. Probably be able to buy them close to that if there's any left over next spring. Don't imagine there will be though. One of th e dealers had the older version for 8,000 I think it was. Brand new. Probably be another couple of years before I get a new sled. Was wishing I had a new sled the other day. Was getting awful bored siting around waiting for it to warm up so we could go back to the bush.
Same thing goes for vehicles I believe. Shouldn't be to big of a deal to do though. I imagine gettting in contact with the right person is the harderst part. Going threw all the voice messages just to get someones voice mail or to find out you wenth threw the wront extension.
Had a really good day in the bush today. Cleaned out a big chunk today. Still a long ways to go but if we couuld keep on like we did today it wouldn't take long to clean up the stand. I've been going and felling trees for a hour or two while the skidder warms up with the block heater. That usually gives me enough trees to last the day. Once I get the skidder going then I skid out while mom and dad cut up trees into lenghts. First winter we've done it like that but it's workign good for us so I think we'll keep on with it like that. Only problem is mom is going to teach the next couple of days again so we'll be short one person in the bush. Going back up tomorow I think.
Ryan
Rick K 02-07-2008, 08:10 PM yes it sure would be a blast eh..wow that's a huge ride for a quad eh...
yes the g man is starting to make me mad so I have to out think him...ha ha good luck to me ...they have most of the angles covered...
yes it is sweet building Michael & myself got our pictures taken with the cup too...wow you guys sure did get around we did not go to the falls..
I hope so to....
well the go man said today all bridges are to be clean the snow taken away it always takes something like that to make them do something...
buy buy you will love it I love mine it is one sweet ride...
good to here you had a good day in the bush...work safe eh..
we had a good ride last night Steve, Bill and myself put around 200 k's on we went to the river it was big time windy out got home after 1 in the morning ...going again tomorrow night then porker derby on Saturday...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-07-2008, 10:23 PM I'm hoping to do a few more trips this year like that on my quad. Only went on that one big one last year. Put on about 180 kms that day. Would've done more but I was just about out of fuel. I didn't have any extra with because I didn't think we'd be putting on that many miles. I think I would've had enough to make the extra 50 or so kms but it would've been awfully tight. Got a range of about 230 kms on a good day. My fuel gauge was showing empty though so we figured we better not chance it. One of the other guys I was riding with was just about out too.
We managed to pack allot into the short time we were out there. Was sure glad that I went after I got back. Had some fun out there anyways.
I'm not sure how they go about it here but I've never really noticed any snow along the edges of the bridges at all. Most gets thrown off by the highway plows I guess. Just head them talking on the news again about the accedent. Sounds like she's going to pull threw.
Made it up to the bush again today but didn't get as much done as I wanted to. Had a pretty good day still but just didn't clear out quite as big of area that I wanted too. I had to help dad cut up the trees today so that took away from my felling and skidding time.
Wow, you guys were out late. How is your new sled on fuel? I remember you saying when you bought it that the tank was pretty small.
Ryan
Rick K 02-09-2008, 12:48 PM Right on I hope we do the same thing this year with the Quads...them are some serous k's you put on.
typical government do something after someone gets hurt or killed..but in the defense where do you start and where do you quit...
good show any time spent in the bush is going in the right direction that is for sure...
yes it was late again it was after 1 this morning we got home put on another 200 it started out bad the humidity was high and sticking to the out side of everyone's helmet...but after sometime it dropped like the temp...
it was a great ride trails just groomed so we could move ...we went to Tuloun Inwood st Laurent then by the northern lights club house then home...
Bill's sled uses about 25 % more fuel them mine and stves uses about 50% more they are both 700 ski doos...
we have a blizzard out right now so we are no going into the poker derby today...maybe put my new mud flap on the sled I picked up a nice red one ....I think it will look good I hope I will post a few pictures off all the stuff I put on it..
I think it is around 20 mpg I get with the Nytro...tank is a little small 10 gallons would be nice not 7 gallon..
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-09-2008, 06:45 PM That's about it, you can't do everything to make everything 100% safe.
Had to go for fuel yesterday so that was another day lost. I was miserable enough though that it wsa probably a good thing that we didn't go. Was a little blizzard most of the afternoon and real cold out. Now today again it's down into the -40s with the windchill. So it'll be a couple of days lost again. Got to try and haul grain again next week if we can too so that will cut into some of our time. We've got till the end of march on our permit so there's no big hurry but I would like to be putting more time in up there. There's no set amount that we have to get out either, so we're not really presured to get it done.
Is everyone to busy to go in the day time?? Good to hear you're getting some miles on now though. Probably not to much sled traffic out that time of the night ehh. Would be nice to ride on some groomed trails for a change but around here there's not really anything worth paying for. Got to drive just about a hundred miles from here to get to the good groomed trails.
Wow, that's quite a differance. Any trouble keeping up to them on the straighaways? 20 mpg is pretty good. Allot better then ours that's for sure. On a real good day it's at about 15mpg. Bad day is as low as 7mpg. Maybe someone will make a aftermaket tank for it. I'm sure you're not the only one wishing that.
Ryan
Rick K 02-11-2008, 09:52 AM We always had the same problem fuel never seemed to have enough on had...we had the same blizzard here on Saturday and boy it was cold out with the wind-chill...how far do you have to haul grain...P.A. plus pick up fuel...
most of the time you can find someone to go during the day time....your right not much traffic...I here you the trails go right by our house 100 feet away...
no in the trails I seem to stick to the ground a lot better and on the straight stretches I have no problem keeping up...
someone has already made a tank...
well we start our holiday together tonight Claudette is done for a few weeks off to John Cougar tonight then off to Asessippi tomorrow to look at the cottage lot and types of cottages...with some sledding....then maybe to Spruce woods to do some sledding them home for a day or 2 Bill & Steve want to head to Portage run on the sleds on Monday then off to the white shell Flacon west hawk Minnesota Warroad etc then back home..
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-11-2008, 10:20 AM We buy most of our fuel in Melfort. It's about 35 miles from the farm. That's also where we haul most of our grain with the exception of this year that most has gone about another 15 miles east of there.
I think I'd definateley have a trail permit if they were that close to me. I just can't justify driving 60 miles or whatever to go sledding. There are some suposovely groomed trails closer but about all the consist of is grooming maybe once or twice a year and some signs.
If it wasn't to expensive that's probably one upgrade that I'd consider. I believe Yamaha is coming out with a sled that would suit my needs quite nicely. It's a 144" version of your sled. They say they don't lose any speed or handling because of the extra track lenght at all. Will have to see in the next year or two how things work out. I'd like to have the longer track for riding in the powder seeing as how that's mostly what I ride on. Be nice for climbing the snow banks too.
Have you guys done any riding together this winter yet? Sounds like a busy week coming up.
Ryan
Rick K 02-16-2008, 08:35 AM Well that's not to bad of a trip for you guys long is it's not every day eh....
I just like to support the program someone has to pay for them nice trails to ride on ....I do see people riding on them without the passes which is wrong....but I see your point too..
it's out I was looking at one at Troy's he has had it all season I think he took it to B.C.
a few trips around we have done....
well the trip was to cold did not ride but looked at Asessippi very nice place but with all the extras it starts to add up to some big bucks .....getting out of my range....
raining out right now going riding today so have to give here to get back to go...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-16-2008, 08:56 AM If I were to put plates on the yamaha I'd automatically have a trail pass. It's tied in with your sled insureance here. I've never done that though either. All it is, is liability insureance. Nothing for you sled if you wreck it. That is extra again.
I didn't know if it was a 09 model or if it had come out for sure or not. I just saw them talking about it on tv and didn't catch the very begening. Was talking with the yamaha dealer in pa the other day and they've pretty much sold out of sleds this year. They said things have really picked up in thier sales.
That's to bad, might be better to try and find a private seller at a lake someplace and try to deal with them. Although if it's like it is around here everone has gone nuts. There was a few Ab. dollars came into town and then prices went threw the roof. Candle lake has all but priced themselves out of most peoples budgets and the laws that they have now. You have to build your house/cottage this way with this type of that and it goes on and on. Even the smaller lakes have gone nuts with thier prices.
Was sort of raining when we came home from the bush last night. Is was ice pellets though. It's 0 out right now though and there's cluods in the sky that look like rain clouds. Temp can sure change quick though, just the other day it was -30*F and now it's +32*F.
Got to go too, got to get ready for the bush again.
Ryan
Rick K 02-17-2008, 10:07 PM yes that's right I do remember hearing about the way they do it in sask which is a good way I think...
same over here too sales are good Troy said..he still has the 40 th long track he will sell to me but I can only ride on plus I have 3 years warranty on mine...
it's like that here to Falcon lake or for that matter it is just nuts any place ....it is crazy what people are paying for this type of place....who says there is no money around...yes the bank has lot's but some people do have...
what you get one day latter we get we got the rain too...then warm sweet ...went out for a huge ride Claudette & myself got home 2 30 this morning it was just sweet oout we did not want to come home ....we are to go to Portage tomorrow with Steve & the boys tomorrow on the river..we will see...look at the k's Ryan...
Michael called tonight he is having a blast...fishing all kinds of neat things he said...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-18-2008, 09:30 AM I shouldn't even ask but just out of curiostity did troy ever give you a price on that sled? Kind of curious to see what it's worth.
Was talking with one banker here and she said it's just unreal the amount of morgages that she's put together. There's two of them there full time and they could use another one she said just to keep everything going. This is just in a small small city too. I think there's going to be some hard times coming for some people in probably the not to far future. What happens in the states usually comes here too.
Get ready for another cold snap again. -30 here this morning. Didn't go to the bush today at all. We put in some pretty good days though over the weekend. I had a really good day yesterday. I took out about 70 or 80 trees. Got a pretty good area cleaned off now but we're about half done of what I wanted to get done. Still got another month + a bit of cuttnig though so once it warms up again we should be able to get a big part of it done.
Good to hear. Nice and warm too I bet.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 02-18-2008, 09:39 AM Wow, you're getting right up there now in kms ehh. Be allot more too if you can get out with steve for the ride I bet.
Rick K 02-18-2008, 09:25 PM yes he did 11,800 but I did not even start to grind him yet...
yes I think so too....that's why I like to pay as we go, for nothing bites us in the as$ ...I do not like surprises.. all I have is the truck to pay for maybe by the end of the summer if I don't buy the long track from Troy....then the 3 of us can ride together Michael, Claudette & myself...who knows ....Claudette want a RV for camping ...rv show on the 28 of this month...
good show on the wood work darn cold out though eh...
yes we went out in it and the wind chill was down right nasty I got frost bite left the BVS2 open and boom right on the cheek brings back memories of winter roads ....we went to Portage on the river and back banged on a few more k's ...Steve & myself
going to Falcon Lake, West Hawk, Warroad etc on Wednesday hope to get over my 3,000 by then ....race back for a poker derby Saturday then Sunday should be fun...I'm getting right into this ....ride ride ride it is fun...
Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-18-2008, 11:00 PM Could be in the budget for a year or two down the road. Of course by then there'll probably be something bigger newer and better that I'll want.lol...
I don't like to borrow money either but the way I sit I don't have much other options if I want to buy anything. Can't make enough money off the farm to make any big cash purchases. Mom and dad can't do the bush operation without me anymore so that doesn't leave me much time to make money off the farm either. Have been thinking about trying to get on part time maybe with the guy I worked for before. He just bought a 270 hitachi hoe so I could have all sorts of fun working for him now. He said that's one of the reasons that he bought it, figured it'd be kind of fun plus he figured it would be a good asset to his buisness. Now he doesn't have to sub out hoe work for big culverts and things like that. Can burry brush piles allot easier too.
It was pretty good when we were up in the bush. Saturday was actually to warm, it was up to about +3 that day. I was having some trouble getting around in the bush with the skidder. No chains on it at all and the tires aren't the greatest. It would spin out pretty quick. Our landing is just like a skating rink now too.
I've actually avoided frost bit this winter. I had just barely a touch of it on the bottom of my ear lobe a couple of weeks ago but that's it. Was out on my quad for a quick little rip tonight and with the wind wipping in my face it started to feel cold pretty quick. Course 20 below with a 30 mph wind chill will make it feel cold. Starting to get to be some big snow banks along the road now though. Just on the back roads though, the main ones aren't too bad yet. When the get the drifts pushed up with the grader though and the back roads there'll probably be at least 8' banks in some spots. Should drift in real good if we get another big blizzard.
Are you ever giving er ehh. Spring is just around the corner though I guess so it's go time ehh.
Ryan
Rick K 02-19-2008, 08:17 PM it all about what you like that's that if you like it even if it's 2 or 3 years old who cares ...if that what you want then buy it...plus it will be cheaper then too..
I here ya I worked alot of years in the bush big time hours so I was able to save lot's over the years....then with a few good brakes with the job I have say no more..wow that sounds like a good idea..nice size hoe too..big time asset for the company...yes you can ...
riding it was all over too ...to warm but nice...but not for you guys I guess...
yes it nasty with no windshield either on your quad..yes too they are getting big here also...a few they might have to bring out the cat to push them back with the wind stays up...
yes it has been one very cold winter here that is for sure...
we are planning to leave for Flacon tomorrow for a few days then back home for some poker derbies...next week is my last week off then back to the grind it has been a great brake sure have enjoyed it ....I will bang on a few next week too...I have the R.V show to go to on the 28 Claudette would like one so would I for training...I have one course up at lake Manitoba this summer ...for a month ..
yesterdays ride

Rick :D
poor farmer/logger 02-20-2008, 08:59 AM You remember what hapend before though, I said I was going to buy a honda rincon. After I did some research though and looking around ended up doing a complete 180 and buying my can am. Who knows maybe I'll end up with a polaris. :D
He just bought the hoe last Dec. out at Ritchie Bros. so he's pretty new to them too he said. He's been out playing with it a bit but hasn't had a chance yet to do any majour work with it. It's a 2004 with 7,000 hrs on it. Said everything seems to be okay on it though. There was one pin on the bucket that he figured he would replace but other then that it seemed pretty solid. He got it pretty cheap too.
Come home pretty wet on Sat. The snow was sticking to everything. Sunday was a good day though, it was below zereo but everything just seemed to go a little better. I do all the limbing with the skidder too, so if it gets a little bit warmer out the lims don't break off as easy. My ideal working temp would be about -10*C.
We've only had a couple of days all winter where it's gotten above zereo. Once in Jan. and once in Feb. now. Lots of -30 temps though.
They had a 500 hp 4wd tracktor in last time it got real bad. They had a 14' dozer blade on the front of it. That thing would sure push snow. It was late enough in the spring though that I figured it was kind of foolish to do it. Another couple of weeks and it would've all been gone anyways. No body was blocked in that I knew of. The one road right by me could've been left anywyas.
Bet your holidays just seemed to fly by. My brother is looking for a used fifth wheel camper and he said down in the states you can buy a nice 25' or so for about 6500 bucks. Used of course. He's going on a little holiday starting today and he's maybe going to drag one back with him. We had a bumper hitch for a while but it got to the point where we weren't using it enough so we traded it off of our skidder that we have now. It was a heavy pulling pig too. I guess the new ones aren't quite as bad though. There sure isn't much to them though.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 02-24-2008, 08:56 PM Had a good run up in the bush and have got quite a bit done now. Got pretty played out though so we took today off. Figured I'd see if I could figure out what was wrong with the yamaha. Changed the drive belt to a older one that I had for it and so far no more clunking sounds. Took it out today and put on about 40 miles. I had lots of fun playing around in the sand dunes. Lots of snow up there so you don't have to worry about the sand at all. There's some pretty good hills to play on there and I played on them all.lol.. Climbed up a few spots where no one else had gone yet. Jumped over some small bushes that are on the top of the hill, even did a little bit of side hilling. Who needs the mountains. :D Not much comparison but still had some fun anyways. Sled worked really good except it's riding teribly rough right now. Got to play with the suspension a bit and get it softend up some. It's either that or my front shock is going to heck.

Rick K 02-25-2008, 11:13 AM yes I do and I could see that too a Polaris they are coming out with some new models..what ever you like ....If I bought something else then Yamaha it would be Ski Doo ...because I have had Arctic Cat already...

poor farmer/logger 02-25-2008, 07:57 PM Don't see myself buying a polaris but you never know. I would like to buy a renegade but the guy I was talking about before is starting to lose faith in ski doo. He's owned every brand so he's not biased at all.
There's been more then once he's had to top load the buggies so now he can do that himself too. He seems to end up in some awful swampy spots. One small road job was 3 or 4 years in the making to get it done. It was just so wet that they couldn't get in there to do anything. Finally ended up brining in his uncles 450 jd hoe and top loading the buggies with frozen dirt. They went in and riped it first with his D7H. That's a new addition too since I was working for him. Going to have to go back just so I can play with his new toys.lol..
Are you still planing on a bumper hitch trailer?
Sure had lots of fun playing in the hills. The new track sure help too. I can actually stop going down a steep hill now. I wish the hills were a little longer then it would be even more fun. Got to be carefull at the bottoms though as there is just narrow trails going threw the bottom of the hills. There's bush and shrubs on either side of it.
Good to hear that you guys had a good trip and got to put on some miles. I plan on going out some more but right now we're out of gas. I hate buying it at the pupms because it's so expensive too. Went up another 7 cents today. Up to a 1.139/lt. now. we get it cheaper in bulk so it helps some. I might fill up one day at the native store to the east of us and drive up to the bush though. They had a polker derby out there last Sat. and they groomed a trail threw the fields for it. Would've like to have gone on it but we were in the bush that day plus I didn't have the yamaha figured out yet. Think I've got it fixed now though except for the rough ride. Looks like a real nice spot that you guys were at. Bet you guys were flying down the river ehh.
Ryan
Rick K 02-25-2008, 08:35 PM so like you can tell what kind is it going to be Ryan...I will sell you the Phazer it has 3,500 km on it cover bags etc spare belt....or maybe you need a bigger one I think...

Rick
Rick K 02-27-2008, 06:29 PM well I guess I'm going to do some testing here Ryan...try to upload a picture no luck have to go and see what I can do ....to get this right..

picture from the states
Rick K 02-28-2008, 07:30 PM 29271just another one
poor farmer/logger 02-28-2008, 07:41 PM Well, it's definatley going to take some time to get used to. Sure looks differant, this is my first sucsesfull time on here since they updated the site. Couldn't bring up the pages untill I finally got loged in again.
Been pretty busy this last little while, been up in the bush most of the time. We're getting pretty close to where we want to call it quits. Had another breakdown on the skidder though. Back tire started to leak and went flat so we had to take that in today and get repaired. Thankfully it could still be repaired. Wasn't looking forward to the idea of having to spend 2,000 on a new one.
I see you've got the picture thing cased now, guess it's my turn to try again. Maybe now with the new site I can finally upload pics again. Have always been able to on RP but the last 8 moths or so I haven't been able to here. Well, that's just a joke. The most the file can be is 97 kb. I can't put up a decent size picture so really whats the point. Would've have gotten it to work I think had it not been for the file size.
Wouldn't mind one of them at all. I think that would fit my needs niceley. Wouldn't mind to try one some time but for now I'll have to stick with the old one though unfortunately. Maybe if the starts align juts perfect this fall I can have some new toys again. For the time being my dollars have to go towards equipment.
Any word on the Ab. trip yet?
I've always been a little scared of rivers or anything with moving water. You just never really know for sure. There was a guy riding on a creek or small river the other week that went threw the ice. Luckily he was able to stay afloat. It was right near a bridge and they said there was only about a inch of ice. I imagine the current around the bridge or something kept it from freezing up hard I don't know.
They might start to wonder when the number her number starts showing up a little ways from home. We know quite of few of them and some have offered us thier numbers before but we've never really used them at all. Mom has been teaching school out there now for about 40 years so she knows just about everyone out there. She just subs now but still goes in quite a bit.
Good to hear that he's back safe and sound. He'll have lots of memories from that trip I bet.
Must say this new forum seems kind of awkward at the moment. Supose I get used to it though.
Ryan
Rick K 02-29-2008, 09:44 PM Yes it is Ryan time to start playing again...I had problems too logging in...
Hiding in the bush but working hard I hope...I here you...to bad about the skidder...that's good..no kidding that hurts eh..
yes go for it I asked for help on the chat called help...I here you..yes your day will come when you play too..but you must make money I here ya..
I will here next week when I go back to work...I think I'm of to Churchill in April to train sweet eh I was last there in 87 power line job..
you would not like old winter roads then but the new ones are mostly on the land now...you got it think is what the guy should do..it's like building a winter road right by the point of a Island yes there is current there stay away...
sweet deal if you want to use it but if you need the tax right off then it's not worth it...
yes he was telling me thing I said I do not want to here buddy...ha ha but I did laugh..
yes we will it takes time but they have to change things up to protect this site too...
Well Claudette & myself went and bought a R.V.today 31 foot it is a done deal...

poor farmer/logger 02-29-2008, 09:56 PM They uped the file size a bit so my picture worked now I see. Starting to get everything figured out again. Will take some time to adjust to everything though. Nothing to majour really changed but there are some little thing here and there.
Was back up there this afternoon. Didn't get up there till latter in the afternoon though so we didn't get as much done as we should have. Had other things that we had to take care of in town though first so that put us behind some.
Do they have to fly you in to get there? Or ya gona take your sled up there.lol.. Would still be snow I imagine ehh?
Not so sure I'd want to be the lead dog but could handle following I think. I'll let you get wet first Rick.lol..
Wow, that's a long one. Are you going to find a place at a lake to park it? Or just cruise around in the summer with it? Any pics of it yet?
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 02-29-2008, 10:01 PM You're ahead of me allready Rick. We're just missing each other in posts here. Sure looks good though. Be hard to back into some tight spots though I bet. Bet it's real roomy inside though.
Ryan
Rick K 03-02-2008, 09:17 PM good show it takes me sometime too figure new things out ha ha...wow nice pile of wood Ryan...
yes they do have to fly us up to Churchill...I thought about riding up the power line it's only 168 miles we built it back in 86 87...yes there will be well into may ..won't be the frist time I got wet ha ha...
right beside the road I will be building which is right beside the lake ....road for cottage lot's...

We went last night back to the show just to look again ...I guess the next show is the sled show end of March...XTX Nytro 144 ...
well back to work tomorrow looks like on tuesday heading out to Brandon to do a show for a few day trade show..
Rick:bigsmile:
poor farmer/logger 03-03-2008, 09:29 PM It's just about doubled now since that picture was taken. We went back up today and managed to get some more out. Had trouble getting everything going though. Batterys were down and the equipment was awful stiff. Had not to bad of a day working though otherwise untill we came home though. The road has been drifing in on us the last couple of days. We came out just kind of at dusk when your headlights are pretty much useless it was also a bit of a white out. Dad couldn't see his tracks real good from this morning and got over a bit to far and basically got stuck in the drift. Spent a few minutes shoveling and we managed to back out of it though. Hit it with some more speed and managed to plow threw it the second time. The drift was just like a rock though. I felt sorry for the poor front end of the truck when it hit it.
That's not to teribly far I guess. I would almost think that you'd have to pull a sleigh though to carry extra gas along with all your clothes and suplys for the time you were up there.
Sure looks good on the inside too. Now you just need that boat to hook on behind it.lol.. Shouldn't laugh to hard I guess cause I bet you're allready thinking about it ehh?? Would be nice to have so you have something to do at the lake when you're on holidays.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 03-03-2008, 09:35 PM Here's a picture I took of our 16' pile again this morning. Mom is in the picture for a point of referance.

Rick K 03-03-2008, 10:43 PM wow I will still say it nice looking wood Ryan big stuff...wow good thing for a shovel eh...I here ya we have had ice roads the last few days...wind blowing and the snow sticking to the road turns to ice then...
yes your right or just send them in on the plane that would work too..
no boats for me maybe a canoe though....or a sea doo...
well I will be gone for a few days leaving for Brandon tomorrow should be back on Thursday I hope...
Ryan I sent you a good email to look at the one on the Hoe...
Rick:bigsmile:
poor farmer/logger 03-04-2008, 10:40 PM It's the biggest pile of 16' trees that we've had in a few years. Actually looking forward to sawing it all up. 16' trees are kind of our cash crop for the sawmill. 8' logs aren't to popular around here so we end up siting on them for a bit to get rid of the lumber from them.
Was like that here too for a while. Was real bad down south from what I heard.
Sea doo's are fun but for us the novelty wore off pretty quick. Now we only use it once or twice a year. Some years not at all. They are fun to drive though. They've got some pretty powerfull 4 strokes out there now.
I'll tell ya one thing with that hoe, I'd much sooner have that job then the job of laying all those bricks. Poor ol guys would probably roll over in thier graves if they saw all that work being demolished. Quite the ride to work everyday I bet though. Straight up a couple of hundred feet with the crane. Maybe not quite that much, hard to tell for sure. Sure looks like a long way up though.
Ryan
Rick K 03-08-2008, 10:01 PM Well it sure looks nice Ryan...wow
thanks for the info on the sea doo that is one thing I can't see us buying one anytime soon...
that was neat eh to see though...no kidding...
well we went on a ride today Marc, Rob his son Steve came after and myself we went 300 k's...I brought home the loader to clean up the yard I will tell you more after need some sleep right now...
Rick
poor farmer/logger 03-09-2008, 10:21 AM Going back up to the bush this morning and I'm going to giver er, but I don't think I'll be able to get it finished up today. Had hoped to do it in two days before but mom got sick and she's still not feeling that great so she hasn't been able to help us as much. We haven't got to much left but I think there'll be more then one days skidding.
Bet it wasn't cheap either to rent that crane to do the job. Maybe the company owned it though I supose it would still be costly though I bet. They were taking a 200 ton crane up to the diamond mine here last week and they put it on its side along the road. I don't know how much damage was done to it but I bet it'll cost allot to get it certified again. They had to go around a bridge repair detour and it was just out in back roads, he took a corner to short I believe and layed it over in the ditch.
You guys are sure racking up the miles ehh. Think you'll break 4,000 kms this year??
Is the snow starting to disapear out there now?
Ryan
Rick K 03-09-2008, 09:36 PM Sorry to here about your mom hope she shakes the flu bug quick Ryan...
good show how many cords can you bang out in a good day with now problems Ryan...
no kidding they are lot's of money I do know that I will ask Marc he is the crane man at the office he ran the biggest in the province before he became the director of training...
wow there will be a ton of damage structural and it will have to be recertified not good...before they can use it again...
not yet I wish I could but I do not think I will do that much...over 3,500 though...we just got some more snow just for that ride it was sweet....
training starts tomorrow 6 days a week 10 hours a day have to make some more money so we can buy the XTX Nytro ..want to buy a 07 Phazer lady driven ha ha...I think it has about 3,300 on it ruff guess...
Rick:bigsmile:
poor farmer/logger 03-09-2008, 10:06 PM She's starting to get better now but she still doesn't have her appetite back yet and she is still pretty weak.
On a good day I can pull out about 20 cords. Mom and dad can't quite keep up to me at that though. Today didn't go that good though. It got to warm out this afternoon and I was having a awful time getting the limbs off with the skidder. As long as it's a little colder out they snap off pretty good with the blade but when it gets warm they just bend over and come right back up. I think we'll spend one more day and what ever we get done is where we'll call it quits for this year. We've got out more then enough allready but we're just trying to get the stand squared off again for next year. If I take all of them out there's about another 60 trees left. If everything goes good I should be able to finish it off in a day. But right now we're down to one saw again. The oiler on our old saw isn't working right so I couldn't use it at all this afternoon.
I imagine it will be big bucks to get it certified again. I don't know for sure but I imagine it came from a company called general crane. They're the only ones that sell cranes that big in saskatchewan. Not to often you see that big of one around here at all. Imagine they had to bring in another big crane to upright it as well. I guess they'll just have to sell a few diamonds to pay for it.lol..
How long of course is it? Gets to be some long days after a while though I bet. If I was a 100lbs lighter it would probably be a good sled for me. Think it might lack a little power in the deeper powder though for me. Remember, I'm saving for that Nytro too.lol..
I imagine your season will be wraping up pretty quick ehh?? Still got a good 2' in the bush here. It's settling quick now though with this warm weather.
Ryan
Rick K 03-11-2008, 09:11 PM Glad to here that your mom is getting better mom's are very special people Ryan....
wow that's sounds good to me that a pile of wood eh...ya boy it is warm here too to warm I want to ride some more please...yes I can remember doing bush for roads when it got warn the trees did not brake as well when it was cold boom the broke real good....
yes big bucks ....and diamonds too ha ha..good one ...
both are 6 days a a week for one month...yes it's a chick machine I think...
I would love one more good ride Ryan or two...
Had lunch with Glen yesterday he is doing the power line brushing up north he said there is a guy from P.A. with a Deere hoe that burnt up on the line working...he told me his name but I forgot...there is a pile of work up in northern Manitoba...
Start training tomorrow sorta they are doing safety disc on comp...
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 03-11-2008, 11:19 PM She still wasn't getting over it completley so me and dad took her in today and she got some perscriptions for it. Nothing real serious and she should get over it pretty quickly. At least I hope she does, she leaves on the 22 for her big trip.
It gets to be a pretty good pile at the end of the day. This year we spend about 20 days up in the bush. Maybe a couple less, can't remember for sure. And we took out over 100,000 board feet of saw logs. That doesn't include all the fire wood. It's still undecided on how much fire wood we've got up there. Got to get it scaled somehow.
One guy I was talking with today thought maybe they were headed to the diamond mine to pull out some drill bits that broke off in the ground. Don't know if there's any truth to that or not but that's what he had heard. It's a pretty big deal up there, suposed to be one of the largest if not the largest kimberlite deposit in the world. They're still in the trial stages though and nothing is for sure yet as to weither it will go ahead or not.
Should still be snow around here for another couple of weeks I imagine. If the temps stay up though it wouldn't take long for it all to go. Still got lots to go sledding though. I was going to go out last night and take a couple of pics but ran out of daylight. Same thing tonight again. Been trying to keep the snow and slush pushed off the yard as it melts. Drys up around here allot faster that way. Just about got it down to the ground now in the main yard.
If you think of it or talk to glen again I'd be interested to know who it is. Might know them or know of them. Can't think of anyone off the top of my head with a JD hoe other the Ruskowski's(sp??) They a older contracting buisness in P.A. that's got allot of equipment around.
The long days start again ehh. The overtime will come in nice and handy though I bet.
Ryan
Rick K 03-12-2008, 09:00 PM How is your mom doing today Ryan we hope she is getting better...she has to get ready for the nice trip she is going on ....lucky mom eh..
no to bad eh good show in my eyes sounds like you guys work good as a team eh...you know what each other is thinking...that's a few board feet eh..
don't think it would be a bit ...well it would be a string of steel with a bit on the end...but then again I do remember we did lose a bit or two in my day we did get lucky to get them back ...so yes that could be right....western Canada is really going to boom buy now in sask you will do well if in the right spot....
poop we got some beepen rain today not good for the snow boy ...it's not good Ryan ...
I will ask Glen when I talk to him again if I can remember ...
long days overtime equals XTX Nytro right for 09...
Rick
I need snow:cussing:
poor farmer/logger 03-12-2008, 10:27 PM She's getting a little better each day now. She's still not 100% but she's starting to get back to normal now. Doc said she should be okay by the time she has to go. Sure coming up quick though. Week from friday she leaves. Day after my birthday. Told her she has to bring me back a big present.lol..
This is the first winter that we've worked like this and I think it's worked out pretty good. I seem to work better back in the bush by myself. I don't have to worry about anyone else around and once I get going I like to keep going. No one else to slow me down except my self. Mom and dad can work at thier own pace they can take a brake when ever they needed to. I usually went into the bush about 9:30 and cut for a hour or two then came back had a early dinner and got the skidder fired up let it warm up and then I went untill about 5 or 6:00 without stoping. Then I'd stop for a hot dog or smokie and go back in for another hour or two.
Was suposed to be the largest crane in Saskatchewan I guess. Newspaper said it was a 200 ton but they don't always get the facts straight either I guess. They naitives are tring to get a dam put in on the Sk. River yet. I don't know if they can ever get it organized enough and get all the funding but they want to put a dam across to the diamond mine and have a road on it. I wouldn't mind to have a road across but I'm not sure that it'll ever happen. Still lots of things to go threw before they can get the money and aproval I imagine. Said it'll cost about 1 billion to put it in. They've been working on it off and on for the last 30 years or so, so it's been a work in progress I guess you could say.
Sure lots of people speculating and buying up land and houses. I don't know sooner or latter I think it's all going to crash but who knows. Everything is so unstable right now that anything can happen.
We got a trace of snow last night instead of the rain. All it did though was make everything wet and sloppy. The yard is starting to get bare now in spots. Was out with the skid steer again tonight pushing some snow and slush around so it'll dry up quicker. Pushed the rest of the snow off the aproach too so it doesn't get so muddy. We've got no gravel around here in our yard so every spring it turns into a big black muddy mess. Sure not a very nice time of the year.
Was going to go out tonight on the yamaha but it was so wet and muddy that I didn't bother. Maybe tomorow morning if I get a chance. Still planing on going around and snaping a few pics again. Got some gas again so I can ride a little bit.
Ryan
Rick K 03-15-2008, 06:30 PM Well that's great news Ryan glad to here that...what's that a quarter of a century now ha ha..
good for you guys...I here you I to like to work by myself...
yes that's a big one that's for sure...if anyone can they can do it.....they do have the pull to do it...they better start now if they do not want it to cost anymore then it already is...no not in sask it not going to crash it's going to take off trust me you guys are the next prov to take off to the sky...buy now well you can because look at fort mcmurray 400,000 for a mobile home no kidding...you can not buy anything there...
we are toast here it's over unless we get a dump of the white gold...good for you to get out for a ride .....we might go to the lake next weekend for one last rip...I'm working 6 days a week right now ...Saturday is my day off...
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 03-15-2008, 11:59 PM Just about, got another year before I get to that.lol..
I'ld like to see it go in so that we could have a road across the river. Would be real nice for sledding and quading. The river is so unsafe and rough by me that it's no good to cross on. It gets better further downstream because it widens out thanks to the dam at Nipawin.
Suposed to snow here tomorow. We've still got lots left though so I'ld be just as happy if it didn't because it's just going to make a big mess when it thaws. With any luck maybe it'll skip over us and head for you guys.
Here's a couple of pics that I took the other day. The 2nd and 3rd pics I was playing on a drift in our line fence. First time I made it up perfectly. It went right up the side of the drift and over the top. The 2nd time it started to slide on me so I got on the throttle and rode the curve around the drift and up the other side. Sure wish I had some one videoing me. Would've looked pretty neat I think.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 03-20-2008, 08:17 PM Well, went and bought myself a new toy yesterday. Far cry from new but hopefully it will work out okay for us. Here's a pic from when we got it home.
Rick K 03-20-2008, 09:37 PM Wow I forgot when is your birthday if I missed it sorry and Happy Birthday Ryan..

Ok your birthday is tomorrow Happy Birthday buddy have a great day all the best to you in the next year of your life .....
Rick
poor farmer/logger 03-21-2008, 10:00 AM Yup, today is my Birthday. Thanks Rick.
You'll be sad if I post my snow plowing pics then Rick.lol.. We've still got allot of snow here. It's starting to go down in the fields though, you can see the stuble poking threw now and some bare spots. Most of the snow from the fields is in the line fences this year though.
I'll try to put up some more pics tonight, we're goning up to the bush here pretty quick so I've got to get ready again. Still got some clean up to do up there then we're going to haul everything home this afternoon I think.
Will do, she's heading out tomorow so me and dad will be on our own for a little over two weeks. Gona have to learn how to do all sorts of stuff now I guess.lol..
Thanks again.
Ryan
Rick K 03-22-2008, 12:50 PM wow some great pictures Ryan can I come and play with your new toy. I would like to build some logging roads please. I see you have a c frame that will be great for rolling the snow off the road. Ryan I'm happy for you you have been talking about buying a D7 for some time now. She looks good and straight too. I will have to send you a track shovel, for you birthday. That's one nice pile of wood you guys have there, wish we still had our woodstove and that pile of wood too.
Now you get to set up a maintenance log in your computer on the new toy. D-7-G ?? how many horses ... I forgot I'm getting older and what year is it..74-78???
did you tell Lance yet...
Well I bought a 2009 XTX Nytro today over the phone Troy again 11,200 plus I picked up a gen set for the rv too...now the problem begins to we keep the Phazer or get ride of it...3 sled 3 people but I think 2 sleds are good enough..time will tell if we keep the 3 rd one:wink:
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 03-22-2008, 08:23 PM Wow, didn't expect to hear that one till next september or so. Sounds like a pretty good price on it. I would think that 3 sleds would probably be a bit of overkill for you guys. It would be nice though to have at times when Michael is home. Then you could all go.
Wont have to build to many roads with it but going to have to open up some roads for sure. Dad cracked the front window in the volvo coming out of the bush yesterday because of over hanging branches. Now we can fix that problem up at least. Track shovel would be good lol.. Got one here but the handle is broke on it and it's a little hard on the hands with the pointy end on the handle.
It's a older cat actually. It's actually a D7 E. 180 hp. It's had quite a bit of work done to it over the last little bit. It's seen some hard miles though, and I'm sure I'll have to put some more parts on it. Got one track adjuster that may be leaking back, the left track got slack on me when I was working it. Got it tightend up again and it's holding so far. Time will tell I guess. The engine and final drives have both been done and the power shift and torque seem to be strong. Hopefully it'll last us for a long time. I'm going to run out the rails on it and then put either good used or new rails growsers and segments. Rollers and idlers are getting worn but still not to bad. I've got one roller for sure though that is sticking on me so I've got to see if I can get that freed up. The year of the cat is a 64. It's got a newer motor in it though. It's got the high horse motor with electric start. Hopefully I can find a winch for it in time too. Would also like to put hydraulic tilt on it. The blade isn't in the greates of shape and could stand some work to the pins but for now it'll do. I actually put a couple of pictures up on R.P. as well. That pile of wood would last you a few years, that's for sure. There's about 150 cords just in the first two piles alone.
Got mom down to the airport today and saw her off. She should be boarding her plain for London right about now. Nother hour or two and she could be flying right over either of us. They had to fly from Saskatoon to Calgary first then calgary to london. I believe it's a 9 hr plane ride so she's going to be tired by the time she gets there.
Ryan
Rick K 03-22-2008, 09:31 PM well if you need parts I should pm you Glens number he is a good guy and would help you out finding stuff he is all over the place shopping and if your looking he might come across what you need ....give you a call to see if you want it with the price etc...he goes lot's to rb and comes home with some unreal deals...he always likes to help out someone who is starting out ....he knows what it is like...
glad to here your mom got off on the trip ok she will have a blast...send pm me you address or I will send it to you or put it on the bus to pa for you the shovel....I'm not joking..
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 03-22-2008, 10:23 PM Going to be looking in the future I think, but for right now my money is pretty well spent. The u/c will go for a couple of years I think. The ol girl needs to do some work for us before I can put to much into it. Wouldn't mind to get some work around here for it but there is very little left for a cat. Lots of hoe work but nearly nothing for a cat. Thinking about puting my name in for fire fighting and see what happens. I know one of the guys that helps look after it. Only problem is I couldn't go out any where there is swamps or real wet ground. Would be allright up where we are in the sand but there is lots of water around too.
Thank you very much for the offer Rick but I really don't expect you to do that for me. Probably cost more to ship it then what you would have to pay for the shovel. Means lots to me though that you would offer Rick. Thank you.
My biggest fear for mom and my sister is that there plane has troubles or they lose thier lugage. I'm not to scared of them getting lost over there because getting lost isn't that big of a deal I don't think. You can always stop and ask directions and eventually you'll get where you need to be. I sent my digital camera with mom so she'll take lots of pictures I hope. I'll post a few for you when she gets back.
Ryan
Rick K 03-23-2008, 09:16 AM I will look it up in the government rate book to give you a idea what it is worth per hour here in Manitoba. That is a great idea Ryan, you get the rate and it's not hard on it, I have done that type of work in the past a number of times. well worth it in my eyes.
your most welcome I have a few lying around ....I try not to use them anymore...ha ha.
I here you about that, you here the stories all the time but I to hope it goes great for them. I will be looking forward to the pictures Ryan ...one of these years we would not mind to do that trip too..I guess I will have to stop buying sleds to do that..but I'm not ready to do that yet.
looks like our Heavy Equipment Course in Churchill is a go for April for a month...I hope to fly Claudette up for a week she has never been up that far north and would like to see it....
well back to work tomorrow nice long weekend...back to 6 days a week till the 9th of April then of to Churchill on the 15th..
I handed in my resignation on the 20th as a Organizer/ Business Agent for the union. I have moved over to Training full time now. my new title will be supervisor of Heavy Equipment Training. I will be working for the union still but the name will be Operating Engineers Training Institute of Manitoba or short is OETIM.
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 03-23-2008, 10:15 AM Will be interesting to see what they think the ol girl is worth. I figured if I could get 80 bucks a hour I'd be doing not to bad. They say the old Es were good on fuel so if that's true that will help. At 80 I certainly wouldn't be getting rich but it would go a long ways to getting some parts for it. Would sure be good if I could get some fire fighting work with it, like you say, usually not to hard on it and the pay is pretty good.
That will be interesting I bet. Working up north for a month. Do they bring all the equipment in, in the winter time?
To bad you couldn't of had this break right in the middle of training. Be a nice break for you then. Can't kick on holidays though, they're always good when they come along.
Wow, you're getting right up there now ehh. Nice big tittle to go along with it ta boot. Good for you Rick..
Got a email from mom this morning and they made it over there safe and easy so that was good to hear. Weather is pretty crappy right now in London though they said.
Going to try and get the valves set on my quad this morning, I can hear them ticking away pretty bad. Hoping that's what it is anyways.
Ryan
Rick K 03-28-2008, 09:26 PM Hi Ryan have not been into my office to look at my book but I will tell you one thing for sure you are low with that price..I will try to stop by tomorrow and look it up for you...
yes it is sweet work to do I have always enjoyed it that is for sure. fight fire ...
yes they do inside at night...
yes it will get bigger & bigger this training that is for sure...I might have to rent your D-7 for training eh. Cat wants 18,000 plus for one month for a D-6-R 200 hour month crazy eh...that god I have a few friends in the industry with equipment..we do own a few OETIM we have a D-6-M LGP with a 6 way blade and a 450-H LGP it too has a 6 way blade. we are looking at a new hoe and loader..
Yes I need a break again 6 days a week is to hard on this old fart ha ha I still have the need to play.....our new trailer is in Claudette & myself are going to look at it tomorrow I will take a few pic's of it ...
that's great Ryan your mom made it over ...the weather will get better I hope for them...
no warranty work ...
I will bring my rate book home and scan it to the page for you then you can print it out for your self...ok
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 03-29-2008, 10:29 AM Sounds good Rick, thanks.
Could show them what it used to be like ehh. She's a far cry from that D6M you guys got that's for sure. 18,000, that's just rediculous. You might as well be making payments on it at that price. Under a year and it's paid for. A used one of course. Not even sure what a new one is worth.
They made it out of London okay, the flew to Stockholm yesterday afternoon. Hopefully now they can get in contact with some cousins over there. Nothing is planed at all for the next 2 weeks, they're just winging it. Hopefully it works out okay for them.
Are you going to bring it home now? Be just like pulling a semi trailer around.lol... Sure will be nice though.
I've actually got it booked in on Tuesday now for some work. They're going to replace the valve cover gaskets and set the valves on it. Setting the valves isn't covered by waranty at all but hopefully I can get him to include it. They're right there anyways, it's not like they have to do a whole bunch of extra work.
Will be interesting to see Rick, thanks
Ryan
Rick K 03-29-2008, 09:43 PM Well Ryan please sit down here it is $ 130.00 per hour that is government rate in 2006 book.if you have a winch you add to that price if you have a angle blade you had to it if you have a tilt you add to it...
I will show you some pic's of the equipment soon
right on they will have a blast...I'm happy for them enjoy enjoy enjoy...
no but I paid for it in full though today I will post some pic's soon I will be bring it home in May after I get back from Churchill if we go they are dragging there feet...if they do not get the plug out we will book another course in it's place real soon...
yes I will be heading out to see the new sled next Sunday I will sneak away form work with Marc to see the new sleds for next year...I will talk to Troy about getting the Quads in to get them ready for the season ...
I have to get going to bed work tomorrow again...course done on the 8th ...
I will email the page to you ...dam thing will not up load for me...:cussing:
Rick:rolleyes2:
poor farmer/logger 03-29-2008, 11:35 PM Not to bad for a antique ehh.lol... Tilt blade and a winch are on the wish list for the next coming years. It's got a 3rd valve on it now so all I'd have to do is route the hoses up to the front and get a cylender. Be real nice for sloping ditches. Winch would come in handy the odd time in the bush I think.
They rented a car and a cell phone so now we can get ahold of them just about anytime. I think they'll have more fun now that they can go out and explore more on thier own with the car.
They better decide pretty quick ehh. May isn't to far away.
Was there much for changes to the 09 xtx nytro's?? Got to get them ready so you guys can put some miles on this summer.
I heard someone say something about a max upload limit on here now. I don't know it that's true or what the case is but maybe that's what happend. Got the email though, thanks again for the info.
Bout time for me to go to bed too. Probably get the sawmill fired up again tomorow. Me and dad have been working down there when we don't have anything else that has to be done. Hoping to haul some grain this week too. Everyone is waiting on railroad cars though. CN is screwing us and the elevators over big time now. They're dragging thier heels and not delevering cars when they're suposed to. They're not real interested in moving grain anymore, they want to haul cargo containers now so they're not real worried about the producers or elevators.
Ryan
Rick K 04-05-2008, 12:03 PM Hi Ryan not to bad at all eh...a winch would be nice to have I think ...one more thing I forgot to tell you north of the 53 rd it worth more again if it's off the road by so much then the rate goes up more I will have to send that part to you. One wants to see you make money with your new cat ...
good for them that would be neat to know what the car and the cell phone is worth ...when is your mom & sister coming back..
they have not signed a contract yet so it might not happen who knows I guess they control there destiny but if they drag there feet it will not happen....they must sign this week or it will be off till the fall...
well the sled show is tomorrow and I have to work so I'm still going though with Marc ...yes the changes are for the better Troy has ridden one he said I will not believe how much they have improved the ride he said it is night and day...I think the Ride on my RTX Nytro was unreal never ridden anything like that before it was sweet...I guess this is going to be sweeter that Claudette has all the luck eh...
yes your right Ryan 5 pictures and so on..
Sawmill hey if your talking to the old timer say hi to him for me I like that guy real nice gentlemen...and get some wood cut for your mom will be happy with her two boys ...
cn yes I'm hearing lot's of that stuff about them ...what did they have buddies in the wheat board...
well we are done the course on Tuesday thank god it is tuff on me 6 days a few week after week and having to drive over to check the oil on my day off on the gen set...I have talked to Marc about this seeing I'm the guy who runs the heavy side it will be changing to 5 days a week after the Churchill one is done...if it fly's...
Claudette & myself went for our walk though on our R.V. last Saturday wow one sweet R.V. Ryan can't wait to use it..I bought a 3,000 gen set form Troy too set to camp in the back woods........
looking forward to the sled show tomorrow I will take my camera for some pictures Ryan...have to run to much to do today...
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 04-06-2008, 12:09 AM I just wish I had a low boy now to haul it around on. It's a real pain to drive the 70 miles round trip to get the trailer then take it back again. Course it doesn't really pay to own one either but the convenience is sure nice. Plus if I had it on fire fighting or stand by I'd pretty well have to have my own low boy. Guess you know now one of the next things on the list in the next couple of years. Sold a pretty nice one on the internet auction the other day for 10,600 I think it was. 10' by 28' or something like that. Had 20 feet of working deck anyways.
I'm not sure what they had to pay to get the cell phone but recieving calls are free but it's teribly expensive to call over here with it they said. Something like 3.00/min. I'll make sure to ask what the car cost too. They are suposed to get back Tuesday night at about 8:00 our time. They're going to be very tired when they get back though. Figured it out tonight and with the layovers and boarding the planes I figure they'll be into it for about 22 hours. They have to board 3 planes in one day. After all that they still have a 2 hour drive home. We're going in to pick up mom and my brother in law is coming for my sis. I'm a little concerned that one plane is going to get delayed and cause them to miss thier next conection.
Haven't heard from him in a while now. Talked to him a bit last Feb or so. He was kind of stiring the pot a little over on R.P. They had a debated about the advantage about the high drive cats and he chimed in a few times.
Not to sure who's buddies with who anymore. We did get our contracted oats out though so that was good. There was probably 20 or 30 trucks lined up at the elevator though.
That will be much easier to take I would think. 1 day a week isn't really enough. you need just one day to get caught up on sleep and rest and another to get caught up on things that need to be done.
Got a little bored last night so I went up to the shop and got the yamaha out for a little bit. Went for a little drive around the block and had a little look aorund. Still lots of snow left here. If we could only get a couple of good hot days the snow and water would be gone I think.
Will be interesting to see the new sleds.
I took my quad up to the dealer last monday and it's still there. They're waiting on some parts for it yet. Turns out the one cam chain got all stretched out. No one knows why but it was had it. Hopefully I can pick it up Monday or wendsday.
Went out on the skidder for a bit tonight and draged the yard again. It's drying up pretty good now. Most of the niebours yards are still all ice but when it was thawing I pushed all the snow and ice off that I could. Sure help drie it up faster. Opend up another run for the water tonight too. It was starting to back up into our little spruce trees so I pushed out the snow with the skidder.
Been working on the cat a little bit. Checked the rollers and put oil in some. Found a couple of cracks that we're going to weld up before they spread. Also picked up a piece of 6x3/4 flat iron to make a fish plate out of. The one track frame has cracked out some just infront of the trunion.
Rick K 04-12-2008, 08:45 AM I here you Ryan ...a de-teach would be even sweeter eh.was it a 10 wide 20 foot working deck if that what it was that is cheap they are hard to find a good one...here is the problem with them they are hung low to the ground the rocks fly up brake the wires air lines etc...no fun..should be in a steel case...
no kidding eh nothing free in this world bottom line you pay and that is that. yes I can remember running to make a plane that came in late no fun...I hope they make it ok...
well let mw say he is one smart man I think he is a wonderful guy with he pushes the buttons on other guys but he does know his cats that is for sure ...I would like to meet him in person he is a joker I can see that in him.
not nice eh lot's of trucks lined up ...
it is official 5 days a week and they stopped me from going to Churchill the Director Marc said you stay here I have to put together 6 more training courses for this year line up my Instructors and over look the heavy equipment training department...and report to the director and my other bud Doug is the Supervisor of crane training...
I do wish I could have done the Churchill course but it's nuts here we have pipeline coming to the prov we are the union who supplies the people to do the work that will be 2 years ...I have lot's of training to get set up along with taking some courses so I can teach people on h2s ground disturbance etc..I have to go to Alberta to take train the trainer this summer
I'm also looking for a good deal on a excavator to purchase for our training. right now we have 2 cranes 1 450-H LGP with a 6 way blade and 1 D-6-M LGP with a 6 way blade...we would like one hoe 320 or 325 and 1 loader...
sure rub it in I hope it makes you feel go stick it to me snow what is that we do not have any...good one Ryan...
yes I have a few good pictures of the new sled Marc & myself did make it to the show...
I guess I should pull ours out and get them checked over and ready to go..too..
good idea to fix her up
well I bought a nice little 3,000 kw gen set for camping Yamaha from Troy he gave me a deal that was sweet...good thing to have ...under 2 ..I will see if I can get time to post some pictures ..

Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 04-12-2008, 02:59 PM That would be nice for sure. It wouldn't go so good up in the bush though I don't think. Like you say they sit so low to the ground. Some of our roads have some pretty good little dips in them and they might be draging as it goes over them. Yes, it was 10 feet wide by 20 foot working deck. Would've been perfect to haul the cat around on. Paint was decent on it too. Looked to be good trailer but who knows. You cant see cracks and welds from pictures very well.
The cell phone cost my sister 50 dollars and she got to keep it. She bought a 15 dollar calling card for her cell phone that she got and I think she made 5 short calls back home with it. The car was about 40 bucks a day with unlimited mileage. I think they put on about 4,000 kms when they were over in sweeden.
Maybe some other time they'll get it all organized and you can make it up to churchill.
Have you chekced out Ritchie bros yet?? The odd good deal going threw I think.
Well, you don't have to feel to bad lol.. our snow is pretty well all gone now too. Been out riping around on my dirt bike checking on how the water is running. The peak is allready over in the fields though, might be a few more days before the creek peaks cause there's some more water coming from down stream. Southern Sk. they had very little run off. Could be a dry year for them this year. We're okay so far but who knows what will happen.
Are you going to follow troy now and put big mud tires on and a big lift kit??? Big bucks siting there I bet. Is that the color of your new nytro?? They're sure choped the front end off thew new sleds haven't they. I was on a New nytro the other day when we took my quad up and boy did it ever look diferent siting on it. You look infront of you and there's just nothing there. I did like the stand up rider pos. though. That's the way I ride most of the time anyways so it felt okay for me.
Will come in real handy this summer I bet when you're out camping. My brother just bought a cheap one the other day from wal mart. I think he paid 250 for it. He doesn't need it to much I don't think, so he'll use it till it blows up probably and then buy a new one. Runs real nice though and looks not to bad so hopefully it'll last him a few years. That's a good deal from troy though.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 04-16-2008, 11:39 PM Here's one picture from mom's trip. This is looking out onto the lake from the cousins place that they stayed at.
Rick K 04-19-2008, 09:07 AM Glen's you could keep it low or raise it up it is a sweet bed it has make lot's of trips on the winter road system but he does have a higher bed too...your going to have cracks it's only normal for beds...
wow that's a good deal 50.00 wow it's cheap all around I'm living tomorrow (joke) but we will go one day.
I looked yesterday but not long I'm just swamp with work I'm booking classes and I'm already into December and then the breaks come on. I will have so much banked time I will have to take the winter off and go sledding ...
I too have brought the quads out got them running have to change the oil service up for they are ready to go...yes it looks like it might be a dry year I hope not though...
not a chance that's crazy in my eyes...yes it is the color and Claudette will be ridding that one at least that is what she is telling me ha ha...yes you would love it like I said I have never ridden anything like my 40th it is just down right sweet..
hey long as it works that's what counts eh does not matter what kind it is..
well I hope they had a wonderful time great picture
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 04-20-2008, 11:51 PM It's a pretty expensive place to stay if you haven't got relatives. They've fot lots of McDonalds so you'd be okay that way.
Sounds like you're not going to have much time to play this summer.
Any plans to go up to the warm up shelter yet?? Remember you guys did that trip last spring about this time.
I really don't see the point in doing it either. It doesn't really help you in any way shape or form. I sure wouldn't be puting those mud tires to the use they were made for on brand new vehicle any ways.
Would sure like to put a order in for a new one but it's gona have to wait for a couple of more years. Things that I really need now are a low bed trailer and good pick up and a good track hoe. Dad's starting to get serious about ditching out some slews on the one quarter that we have. He doesn't really believe me when I tell him that they can ditch it out even if there's water in it though. It's hard enough that I can drive my quad threw it without sinking so I would think that a hoe would go threw there okay as well. That was last fall when there wasn't any frots yet.
Took a little drive threw the bush today and had a look around. Still some snow in spots though and lots of water laying yet in the low spots. Be a while yet before we can get the semi in to haul out our logs.
Still don't have my quad back at all, they were suposed to phone me on Friday to say if the parts had came in or not but they had a huge Natural gas explosion in Nipawin. Knocked out all cumunications they said and power and of course natural gas. Two people were killed and there are more in serious condition and the hospital in saskatoon. Here's a link to the news story if you haven't heard about it.http://www.cbc.ca/canada/saskatchewan/story/2008/04/19/nipawin-explosion.html
Here's a picture of buckinham palice.
Rick K 04-25-2008, 08:17 PM I thought it would be be coin to stay over night in a hotel..
Yes not much time other then weekends and maybe a few days here or there...not yet I just started the quads up last weekend...
just to much money ...did I tell you Troy has a tire shop..or you already new that eh...tires & toys...
have a look around on cat used .com I was looking at some the other day we are thing of getting one too..
some slews are real hard on the bottom hard to believe but true though..hell I can remember going though swamps with water inside yes inside the floor and come out the other side like nothing to it.
yes it is fixing time of year not much else to do right now eh...get ready to go...I seen that on the news wow eh..big time investigation now ...great picture eh so would they go back again Ryan...
boy we got a big snow dump but it left fast ...
might go and get the rv soon but I would like to build a pad for this stuff before I get it home....off to Fisher River on Monday to talk to them about training...then to the far north up past Thompson....
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 04-25-2008, 11:43 PM I did know that but had forgoten, that would definatley help on the cost of them mud tires I'm sure. Sure seeing allot more of that around now the last couple of years. I don't know if people just have more money to throw away or what. I sure can't figure it out.
Will have to take a look. Would like to get a 200 or 220 class machine. Sure wish I had it now with a thumb on it. I've got a bunch of slabs to pile up where we burnt last fall. It's a little wet to take the skidder in there and if I go in with the cat I'll get so much dirt in with it that it'll never burn. A clam like that guy in the north had would be just perfect for that job. Pile it up nice and get a good burn on it. Probably be a year or two before I can seriously start looking for a hoe but I'm going to have one sooner or latter. That's what I said about the cat two years ago. Took some looking and hard thinking but now I've got one.
They got all the parts in now for my quad and they're just getting it back together. Sure tacken a long time to get it done though.
They saying now that the explosion was caused by a hoe that was dismantaling a building there and hit a natural gas pipe that was above the ground. Started to leak and minutes later the whole thing just blew. It was a father and son that were killed, the funeral was today in nipawin. Thier last name was boxal.
Replaced all the hydraulic lines on our 4wd tractor yesterday. Just the ones coming off the valve bank to the hydraulic couplers. 8 hoses to replace though. Wasn't the most fun of jobs but it had to be done. Next I have to pull the water pump off the 4wd tractor again as it's leaking a little bit right where it seats up against the block. Got a starter to fix up along with a long list of other things too. Hoping to get to work with the cat next week as the ditches are starting to dry up now. I'm going to go in and push the ditches out some and try to slope it out so that the slews will stay drained. Should've had a D5 now with a 6 way blade. Would've been just ideal but I'll have to make the ol 7 work.
Mom would like to go back if she could get Dad to go over there with her. Dad's not much for traveling though so she'll probably never make it back unfortunatley.
Had a little bit of snow here as well but it went pretty quick too. Suposed to get some more tonight but hopefully we don't. Up at Meadow lake they got about a foot the other day.
Wow, they're sending you all over the province now ehh. Get to see the countyside again though I guess.
Are you going to pour concrete? Or just a gravel base? Concrete sure isn't cheap anymore, with the price of everthing else though it's not hard to see why. Imagine it'll be going up some more too if diesel fuel keeps on going up.
Here's another pic from moms trip, this is pickadilly (sp???) circus. It's named that becuase it's such a busy spot in london with all the traffic I guess.

Rick K 04-26-2008, 09:04 AM Yes Troy gave me some unreal deals on the mud bug tires for the quads and I do mean unreal...I would rather buy a new quad or sled or tv .....but I guess it is each to it's own eh...what every turns your crank ....have fun..
yes you want one that is plumbed because it cost over 10,000 to do after properly more like 15 now...well if it plumbed you can have thumb a wrist etc...
that's what they call a rake Ryan that was the guy from P.A. snow cats they rented them out of Alberta on also caught on fire they did the burning of the piles ....Glen said boy they new how to burn but they did not now how to read the ground...I seen a nice 320 CL 85% UC air & Plumbed for 99 on used cats ....I think I remember Glen telling me that they are caterpillar certified your cat dealer will bring it in at that price for you I will look into it for you if you would like ...I will because I think that is the way we will go too.....I have some big jobs coming up I'm going back into construction again ...
Like it not tuff enough to do a job with guys so we are going to be the first to try take a few operators and 12 students and build a few miles of road to grade ...think I'm stress now just wait eh ha ha ...I'm up to the challenge though ....I like to be the first in this industry...going on Monday to see the project if we are able to do it or not...2 excavators 4 LGP dozer with 6 way blades a few 35 ton articulating 6x6 rock trucks packers graders and even a water truck..want a job..
then after the long weekend Glen Marc, and myself are going north to hopefully set up a huge training program in the north with job placement after training with Glen doing the power line ...we are hoping to do all the bushing to our good friends in the south that have just bought all the power off us...just a few billon dollars worth...wow eh...and if we lived in Saskatchewan we would be looking at the pot ash huge project I know a few guys working out at it they say it is freaking just nuts in sask and going to get worst.
so boat from china is that where the parts came from.....ha ha..
not surprised about that Ryan call before you dig is the rule of thumb so sad ....loss of lives over that safety safety safety...I want everyone to go home at the end of the day to see there love ones..very sad...it makes me mad to see things like that...and that is how new rules are brought into affect is by mishaps like this you wait and see the new rules and regulation that come out off this...
well I've always said the engineer that designed the machine lost his wife to the mechanic so he is trying to get back at him ha ha...
never say never I think that would be wonderful for them enjoy live well you have it be happy because one day unfortunately it is gone..be happy..
yes they are and loving it..
not on that project that pad will be big it will be for the sea can to be placed by the bush with the toys in it ....painted green then the enclosed sled trailer next to it then the rv next to the house all in a nice neat row, then do concert on the garage floor we ran out of money when we built the house back in 01 and we where not going to the bank to get money. yes that is what happen when you spend 30 years in the north working you save lot's of money..now all I seem to do is spend it ha ha...let's just say we did very well back in 01 when we built I took the summer off and I was the general with lot's of buddies that helped me out big time and I do mean big big big time plumbers electrical concert guys all did us some huge favors...all we did was supply the stuff for them...them are true friends...I have done work for them too..
so yes gravel base for the outside concert inside the garage floor it's still gravel...
great picture we would love to go over there one day too...
off the gym ...have to pick up a few thing for mom's park today...
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 04-27-2008, 10:53 AM That's probably more then we can spend on a hoe. When we get serious about it I think we'll head out to ritchie brothers and see how things are selling. You always take a chance at a auction but we've been pretty lucky over the years.
I've never actually heard of the company at all. Kind of sounds more like a snowmobile club then a construction company. Did you ever hear why the one hoe went up in smoke?
That should be interesting and fun at the same time I'm sure. One of these times I might just surpirise you and say yes Rick.lol... Would be fun to go and learn on some new equipment that's for sure. Think you'll get much seat time?? That's one thing that I've never ran at all, a grader. I might be looking for one of them too though in the next couple of years. I'm not exactly looking forward to snowplowing 3 or 4 or more miles of road with the cat. Once we get the road opened up it would sure be good to have the grader to keep it open. Cat is always there for back up if we get a dump of snow that the grader wont move.
Everything is on the way up here now. Diesel fuel is now a 1.30/lt. Just think of anyone runing heavy equipment ehh. I don't have to tell you about it though either, I'm sure your guys fuel bill is plenty high. It's a little hard to fatheme $60/hour just for fuel for some equipment. I'm a little scared as to where it's all going to end.
So where exactly is this power line running threw. Most be one awful long strech of line.
Starting to wonder, that's for sure. Sure not very happy with how long it's taking to get it back.
Yes, some stuff is sure had to work on. I'd sure hate to have to work on little cars for a living though. They sure pack a pile of stuff in them little spaces.
Concrete in your garage will sure be nice. Do you have heat in there?? I can't remember for sure. It sure helps when you know people who can help you out with things like that. My one brother has helped us out quite a bit like that. Anytime you can knock off some of the labour it makes a huge differance.
You should be set for a while now though ehh. Shouldn't have to worry about spending to much money for a while once you're done with the gravel and concrete.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 04-28-2008, 08:21 PM Well, I fianally got my quad back today. Going to go out for a little ride tonight and try it out. I'll post a couple of pics for ya if I see something worth taking a picture of.
Ryan
poor farmer/logger 05-01-2008, 12:21 AM Hi Rick, just wanted to say thanks again and try to put that pic up on here for ya.29678
I didn't see anything real fancy when I was out on my quad so I didn't take any pictures. Went up to our bush quarter and toured around in the swamp a little. The frost was still in so I didn't sink in at all and there was only a foot of water at the most so it wasn't really deep at all.
Was out on my cat today doing some work around our slab pile today and had a break down. I was working with it and thought I could see a lilttle bit of oil on the ground so I got off and checked it over and didn't really see any leaks so I kept on for a while. About a half a hour latter I could see a little bigger spot so I went back down and looked and then I could see a little bit of oil coming out of the belly pan. So I shut it off and checked it over and decided it was safe to fire it up and drive it up to the shop. Got the belly pans off and found a crack in the one transmission line. It's a steel line so I think what we're going to do is cut the ends off and braze on a couple of hydraulic ends on it and put in a piece of hose and fix it all up. Was I ever dirty though when I got all done. Took my cloths off and went stright into the shower.
They buried another hoe near me tonight. The one neibour came over here to get a clevis for thier tow strap and was telling us about it. He was out in a slew or the edge of one and started to sink in and he couldn't get himself out. He kept pulling himself towards the slew and kept on digging himself in deeper. Eventually he couldn't swing the house anymore. They brought two 4wd tractors over but couldn't move him at all. He finally got it to start to swing around again and he just kept on till he hammered the heck out of the back of the machine and got it turned around. It's a just about new 325 cat. Was a real nice machine till now. He's just got it on rent too. It's on a rent to own type deal.
Ryan
Rick K 05-03-2008, 07:58 AM your most welcome enjoy.
wow a least you have been out for a ride Claudette & myself have not been out once yet all we have done is got them running so far Ryan.
you will make a fine equipment operator you sound like your very observant. well good thing you found that...another good thing is to take them stump pans off at least once or twice a year and clean them out I have so many fires start because the stump pans are full of $hi) ...sounds like you guys can fix anything you are creative find away to get her fix good show...
yes sometimes they get in trouble too I have put 1 in all the years I ran one it happened so quick...it is a lesson for him that for sure Ryan...then rent to own are not the best deal you pay lot's trust me on that one ....Glen & myself have looked at that one in many ways ....buy it or just rent it...
gone to more course tomorrow ground disturbance then off to Alberta to take train the trainer so I will be able to teach it here...we are going nuts pedal to the medal..I hope to pull the new rv home next weekend to we can get it ready to go away for the long I would love to take a extra day off too...thinking of going up to Steep Rock where I will be training..
I have to back up this week for another meeting with the rm they want 1.5 miles of road built. a cottage lot development...
we are getting some real cool ones in sometime Ryan shirts I will send you a few of them they are looking real sweet hell I might even wear one. here is a picture of the logo
29685:tounge:
here is another sweet one a D-6 9U yes I ran one of these babies many years ago don't you laugh I loved these cats I know where one is still sitting I would love to get it. I ran one of these doing grade work on a highways project.

Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 05-04-2008, 12:25 AM I've put about 200 miles on my dirt bike this spring and now another 100 miles on my quad. I imagine the bush trails will be getting pretty soft now ehh? Hopefully you guys can get out on a few rides this summer in between everything else.
I always try to be observant of what's going on around me, things happen pretty quick sometimes. Was one time I was combining on a hot day and I had just looked at the temp gauge at the bottom of a small hill by the time I got to the top it was starting to boil over. Temp went from 185 to 215 in about 15 seconds. Turned out the water pump shaft had brocken off inside the water pump. Pulley and everything was turning but the impeller wasn't.
Got the cat all fixed up today again. Ended up being a big bill though. Replaced the one steel line with a hose and got looking at the other one next to it and decided to do it as well as it wasn't in very good shape. What we ended up doing was getting hy power to machine fitings and silver soldering them onto the existing steel pip at the conections then put a rubber hose in between. I changed the transmission oil as well while I was at it. Going to do the hydraulic oil as well when I get some more money. Mom and dad payed part of the bill and I payed part.Worked out to about half and half but it was still expensive. Blew a thousand bucks all together in a couple of days but hopefully it will be good now. The transmission oil had alot of moisture in it so I had to get it out of there and fresh oil and filters in. Brought the stump pans down to the house along with the cat and washed everything out real good. Tried to get all the oil and grease off from around the transmission and torque. Got a little bit more to do on the cat with the small pressure washer but I've got the worst of it now. I know what you mean with the stump pans, we have to do that once a year with the skidder. It get packed full underneath it. Get some oil in ther with it and it's just like gasoline. Have you got and tricks or know of any for getting them stump pans back on again. Thinking of blocking them up then driving the cat over them and jacking them up into place. Little scarey being aorund them though when they're up in the air though.
Was that the time on the lake?
Looks good Rick, the extra large fit me good, the xxlg was a little bit big. Thanks again, for them. That's sure a nice picture of the D6. They had a ol D7 17a at the last auction I was at. was actually in good shape yet. Think they got 11,500 out of it. I kind of like those old cats too. Heck mine is basically one of them.lol..
Where abouts in Ab. is the course? Do you get much time out there at all??
Hopefully you guys will have a nice relaxing weekend. From all the running around you've been doing I'm sure you'll be looking forward to it.
Going to start seeding here now in the next week or so I think. Fields are fianlly getting dry enough that you can get out on them to work them. Neibour was out today finishing up his combining from last fall and as far as I know didn't get stuck at all.
Ryan
Rick K 05-04-2008, 07:48 AM ya sure why don't you just rub it in a little more ...I think we will get a few miles on Ryan
yes you do have to keep a eye on the gauges you would be surprised how many people do not keep a eye on them...but if you have to pay for it you soon learn how to keep a real close eye on them that is for sure...
yes the good old sliver solder is unreal good eh....
put it on hinges or use a chain under the stump pan then run it up using a come-along bring it up but you still need 2 people to do it. what we did was just put hinge on towards the operators seat then the bolts just come out down it goes then clean it out ...put chain around it use come-along put back up and that is that...
yes it was hee hee I did not even get wet I did not know I could move that fast...well I just think that one is close to my hart it is the one that was first...
do not know yet or better yet I was told and I do not remember ha ha..getting old..
yes me too I hope so put the feet up for a few days..
yes they are going here already ...not all though..
I have to run to my course today that to you after...
Rick:wink:
snow4mydooplz 05-05-2008, 06:33 AM Hey you two... :tounge: Just buttin in again, thought I would give you two great guys a "hello"
Snow4
poor farmer/logger 05-06-2008, 10:00 PM Hi Snow4, a great big hello back to ya. Haven't had to much new going on and haven't been on any big quad trips so haven't been posting to much lately over in the chit chat side.
It is some pretty amazing stuff really, you wouldn't even know that there was a weld there at the fitting just looking at it. That is what we use on our carbied tiped saw blade as well. Holds extremeley well when done properly.
Had been thinking about the come-along idea but we don't have any as of yet. The back pan has to slide forwards to come out, that's one of the bigger problems with it. It slides up in behind the wishbones. Thanks for the ideas though. The hinge idea would be pretty slick.
I went out today and started harrowing. Did the one quarter this morning. It wasn't to bad in the field at all. There was a few spots that still had water on top of the ground but were harder then heck so I just drove threw them. Wasn't a whole bunch of water but you could see it shining on top of the ground yet. The side hills were actually wetter then the hollows. Spots where the sun doesn't get to as much I guess. Still snow in the fence lines yet too. Some spots it's still pretty deep. Still got some fixign to do on the air seeder before it's ready to go so it'll still be a few days. Temps are still dipping down into the minuses at night though so I don't really want to start seeding yet.
Ryan
Rick K 05-10-2008, 07:43 AM Well snow4 a great big huge hello back at you too and you too Ryan..
Ryan it works good saves the back ...but I forgot about the wish bone see the newer High drives are not like that...but you could cut the skid plate stump pan at the bolt holes...where it goes under the wishbone...darn I will have to look under a cat again to get it right ....but you can make it work one way or another ...
yes they are giving it dirt water here seeding too..-5 at night I would wait the weather is not right...
well I have a guy coming by this morning to oil the road it cost us 300.00 but it is well worth it not dust...
then I'm off to the gym with Michael then back out here to do some work I...
I have to build that pad for the sea can sled trailer and rv ...boy everything cost money you do..we have not even had the quads out yet I have to go get gas for them supreme that will be funny to see how much it cost to fill up a 5 gallon pal eh...
well Marc & myself went to steep rock where I will be building cottage lot roads right on lake Manitoba sweet..50,000.00 alot they want we would like one but it's a little rich though I will have to talk to them...it is beautiful .....I will spend 5 weeks there in July August ....right at the lake ..
have to run I will post some pictures of the pad area Ryan ...
Here is a few of the lot I would like at the lake it will be where I set classroom up..
29704
29705
one sweet picture of a old D-6 9U that is what I started on boy I'm old eh..I love this picutre..

Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 05-10-2008, 11:13 PM You've gotten spoiled with all the new stuff Rick.lol.. Think I'll try blocking it up real good and try to drive the cat over it then jack it up into place. Just going to make darn good a sure that I've got some good blocking under it. Sure don't want it ontop of me. We've got the volvo and the skid steer to help if need be. Nothing is imposible, just difucult sometimes.
We've got the starter off the air seeder in getting fixed and have one wiring harness to fix then we can give er. If everything went perfect we could be done by the middle of next week. Not this coming week but the one after. Probably wont hapen though. Seems there's always something to slow us down.
That's one problem here, we've got lots of spruce trees for shelter so that makes a huge differance but it still gets bad. We've got allot of traffic by our place as well as we're on a main grid road. The gravel that they have doesn't help matters either. It's half clay so when it gets dry it's just dust. Then when it rains it's just one big slop. You remember my pics of the brick truck that time. It's always like that when we have a big rain. Same thing hapend to the pepsi truck last summer and we had to pull it out as well.
Looks nice sure lots of rocks though ehh. No better place then to work then right beside the lake ehh. Kick back at the end of the day and relax by the water. Are there any trees around it???
Yes, that sure is a nice pic of the ol cat. I was out on mine today again playing a little bit. Had one v ditch that I had made last fall that needed to be either pushed in or sloped out. So i took the cat down and sloped it back nice. Windrowed the dirt and then pushed it into the slew and just about filled it up. Once I slope the other side of it I should have enough dirt to level it off nice.
Ryan
Rick K 05-11-2008, 11:35 AM That is a problem Ryan with the students they get spoiled. They go out into the field after the course and the contractor puts them on the old equipment and the experience operators operate the new stuff so they have a ruff time with that.
that is the right attitude Ryan nothing is impossible just difficult (right on)
Yes I here you nothing goes right just make it difficult to hit your targets...
yes I here you... it makes it good after it is oiled the dust is gone...but it cost us 300.00 to do it. But a well spent 300.00 if you are sitting out side or the house does not get covered with the dust either...we don't have the trees plus the house is to close to the road...
yes there is sandy beach areas I could pick one of them nut I like the rock...it's limestone too...underneath..
yes I put it as my screen saver at work and at home too...it was the first cat I ran...
good thing you have a C frame eh that makes it nice angle dozer sweet...
Michael came back out home with me gave me a hand cleaning up the sea can ...I took a few pictures to show you the area where we will build it up to the elevation where the sea can sits right over to the bush then the sea can will sit beside the bush then the sled trailer then the rv will go beside the house right where the can is sitting....I might see about lining up some dirt then getting a price form Garry to load and haul it ...
29711
29712
29713
don't forget it's mothers day
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 05-18-2008, 11:59 PM Could be a bit of a rude awakening for some I supose. I guess that's why the big guys don't run anything real old anymore, they can't get operators for them anymore.
I got the front pan on the other day without to much trouble. Haven't had time for the back one yet though. I managed to block it up then drive over it and then jack it up into place. Used a chain and a boomer to pull it around to get the bolt holes lined up. Ended up working out pretty good. I had mom guide me in so that I was very close to straight and centered on the pan.
It would be well worth it if it keeps the dust down all summer. I imagine here they'd have to do it a couple of times a year. We would also have to do just about half a mile of road to keep the dust down.
Always been scared of rocky lakes in a way. Once you get to know them it's okay but I'm always a little leary of hiting one.
When I pushed out that v ditch I just started about 10' back from the point and pushed down threw the dirt and then sloped it back up at about the same angle on the other side. Went back and trimed it up a little bit after I was done just to level everything out nice. Worked out okay. Then the dirt i just pushed from the one end of the pile into the slew and leveled it off. Would sure like the get the hydraulic tilt riged up on it. Would come in handy for doing ditches like that.
Going to take a fair little bit of dirt ehh. Should be good once you get it all done though. Everything will be nice and tidy then.
Been giving er out in the field, and have a good start. If it doesn't rain to much tonight we're going to move out to the reserve tomorow and start on my rented land. Picked up seed and fertilizer today and is that ever going to be a big bill. 50 bucks a acre for fertilizer alone. The seed is over 300 bucks a bag, and there's only 50 lbs/bag. It's just crazzy.
My one brother came home on mothers day for a bit so me mom and dad my brother sister inlaw and thier two kids went out for a little drive threw the bush in his 4 runner. Was kind of a nice sunday afternoon drive.
Ryan
Rick K 05-19-2008, 12:31 AM Yes it is you got that right Ryan....it is also a dyeing bread operators...
good show sounds like you have it well under control eh....keep them clean or make sure you have good insurance...I fought with one stump pan fire for hours snow and more snow I was so far back in the bush we just about lost the high drive 6-H LGP so close...
yes it sure is nice having it done the dust is unreal then boom no dust ....where it is oiled...I will keep it done you can sit outside with no dust sweet eh...the house trailers car truck everything stays dust free almost...
I here ya on the rocky lakes it just the shore area though..ok maybe a few in the water too...ha ha..
yes if you want to cut it some times you have to put your track on a lump to get the slope you want with no tilt but once it get it going your off and running...
yes it should then some limestone to cap it off it will be nice very trailer up high and dry....yes it should look nice too..
I figured that is what you would be doing they are going nuts around here most are just about done ...wow that is some big coin eh ...you said it crazy eh..
good show sounds like fun ...
we have just been working around here most of the weekend getting things ready for summer like the lawnmower serviced her up....quads tomorrow...rv ready to go now...cleaned up garage...you now just the normal kind of stuff....
off to Thompson on Tuesday for the week Glen is coming with Marc & myself should be fun trip...little tour of the north...
we have training set up for June, July august September, October, November and I think part of December....by then I will have so much banked time I will have to go sledding..for a month ..Floodway training then Steep Rock, then Erickdale training then St Andrews and maybe St Laurent..then they are talking of some pipeline training for the Enbridge line to much eh...should be a great year for us...
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 05-19-2008, 11:56 PM Pretty soon they'll be able to put any joe blow on there with there auto steer and gps. Some pretty amazing stuff their doing even in the construction industy I guess. Juts put the blade down and go, no worrying about weither or not you're keeping it on grade or not. John deere is coming out with a new bulldozer too I saw. It's just like the case ih quad tracks except it's got a big ol dozer blade on the front of it. Suposed to be able grade at 18 mph I think they said. First thing that came to mind was what happens when he hits a rock.lol...
Once I get a system figured out for doing it it'll go allot easier the next time around. I remember when that happend, you had some pics up on r.p. It's scarey stuff when something like that hapens. There's so many little corners that you can't get at either so it would be hard to get snow in to get it out I imagine.
When I think about rocky lakes Jan Lake is the first one that comes to mind. That's one nasty lake in some spots. It's a nice lake but man for rocks. That's all it is up there though so I guess it's to be expected.
That's what I've been doing with the skidder over the years. Little bit slower but the end result is the same.
Got rained out last night so today was spend at home. Fired up the sawmill for a few hours this afternoon though and managed to get something done there at least. Mom got a phone call now though and they've called her back to school to teach for two weeks. I fully expect it to turn into 5 or 6 weeks though till school is out. A teacher went out for some reason and they got left hanging so mom is suposed to go back and fill in. I wasn't very impresed to say the least that she had to go. We really need her around the farm right now. But the extra money doesn't hurt. That's the trouble. If money wasn't such a big thing anymore I don't think she would've gone. When we're using a thousand bucks a day though in fuel every extra bit helps.
Any word yet on your Ab. training?? Will be a nice trip for sure. Bet there's still snow up there though. Heck there was still snow here just up till last Wed. or so.
Sounds like a busy summer for sure. You'll need a month or more just to recover after doing all that training.
Ryan
Rick K 05-25-2008, 08:18 PM pretty much right on Ryan long as they can hit the kill switch eh...I hit the kill switch the dirt was coming over the top of the blade boss...yes your right wow when you hit a rock...can you imagine the damage that would happen....crazy eh...
yep that's how you learn is trying different ways..
yes Jan lake was one big mother of a lake eh all them Islands & rock you could get lost in a hurry and do some real serious damage to your boat too..
well that will hurt a bit with the farm work just moving stuff around it sure is nice to have the extra hand around...money is nice though..wow sounds like a small construction company eh...freak fuel is down right nasty up north 1.48 for diesel crazy...I also heard over in Barons River it is 2.20 a liter now that is insane...east side off lake Winnipeg...help..
not yet it is going to be very inserting how it going to work with all the training we have...
ice on the lakes up north but it will be gone in the next week or two..
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 05-26-2008, 01:06 AM Just about done in the field now. Would've been done on Saturday but the hydraulic pump on our 4wd tractor went south. 650 bucks latter it was going again though. It had been a while since dad had changed the filter and it got pluged somehow I think and wrecked the pump. At least I think that's what happend. Had another breakdown today as well so that slowed us down. Hopefully tomorow. Only got about 40 ac. left so it wont take very long to finish if everything stays working. Stuff is starting to come up here now. They're talking of frost tonight though so hopefully it down't freeze. I don't know how much damage it would do to the crops. I don't want to find out though. We definatley don't want to re seed our canola. Just the seed alone is over 6.50/lb. And you seed it about 5lb./ac.
My one friend used to know it like the back of his hand but I don't know how much time he spends up there anymore. They sold thier buisness up there so they're not up there much anymore I don't think.
It definatley didn't go as smoth as it could have moving the equipment around. Had to make a couple of extra trips. That's just nuts for fuel. But I have a scarey feeling that we'll be paying that here before to long. They're predicting 200$/barrel crude so if we were paying 1.00/lt at 100 it'll probably be 2.00/lt when it gets up that high. I don't know how anyone is going to afford to do anything.
Takes quite a while for all that ice to melt up north, that's for sure.
Ryan
Rick K 06-07-2008, 09:38 AM good show Ryan you must be done by now eh it's been sometime....that sucks 650
it has been very cool here too we finally got some big rain yesterday we needed it big time lot's of fires up north.
fuel what can I say nuts sums it up or just get used to it price will go up not down is the way I see it.
We went to the states just to get away the price difference between us for fuel is 1.67 a gallon.
Training ran into a snag nothing till July 14 so I might take a week and go away with the rv.
we have not been out on the quads yet just have not found the time hope to this weekend.
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 06-08-2008, 12:55 AM We finished up 2 weeks ago this monday. Just started spraying today. Did a little bit of our flax that needed to be done. Looked like rain so I didn't do any more then i had to though. Had one field that the weeds were coming bad in so it had to be done.
We've spent qute a bit on parts this spring. Had to put in some computer parts on our sprayer. It all counts up awful quick.
That'd be a nice little get away for a while. Dad had talked about going down to the states for a while but so far we haven't made it at all. Time and money have both cut into that plan. That's just crazzy ehh, the price differance for fuel. Wouldn't be the least bit surprised if some of that fuel didn't come from canada too.
Did some more work with the cat here the other day. Pushed out some old mapple trees that were dying and did some more leveling. Got a job for it that I've been waiting to do. A paying job. I keep getting draged away to do other things though so I haven't had time to do it. Had one other fellow ask me to do some dirt work for him as well. Wants some slews filled in and some dirt pushed around. I haven't seen what all there is to do there yet so I don't know if I'll do that or not. It's far enough away that I have to haul the cat so that pretty much doubles my operating costs for it. Rent on the trailer the 150 miles in total to get the trailer and take it back then to get to the site. So I don't know if this guy wants to pay me what I need or not. Will have to see I guess.
That will give you a real nice little break. Hopefully you can get caught up on everything and have some time to have some fun. You need to enjoy you new camper some time this summer.
I haven't been out on my quad much either lateley. Time has been the biggest problem plus with the price of fuel I haven't been driving it as much as I had been.

Rick K 06-08-2008, 06:33 AM ha ha look I'm so far behind I think I'm first ha ha...Ryan spraying already your on pace with the farmers around here....buy fuel for the fall harvest now because it's will be a lot higher come fall time.
yes a dollar sure does not go far these days hell we went to the states for a few days by the time the smoke settled it was over 2,000.00 rooms fuel meals and yes a few cloths and toys
we are thinking of taking the rv and heading done to the states for a week towards the end of the month with training slow right now I have time till July 7 to do a few things....
I was lessening to a show on radio the other day they said that we only supply the states with 18% of their fuel Russia is a bigger supplier.
wow great show Ryan a paying job your first one right on ...I hope it's the first of many for you ...I hope you have your cat on for fires Glen has his on and he has been fighting fire up north and huge money. ...over 200 a hour north of the 53 parallel...650 for a bunk house a day that's nuts ...phone conservation office put your cat on...
well here is a little advice what I would do is if you want me to fill your slews in Ryan I need so much a hour and half up front if they pay then you know they are serious if they say they don't have the coin you know there might be problems collecting and starting of nobody can afford that right...
I just having a real ruff time to find the time here I'm up early doing a few thing hoping to get caught up on a few more thing so I can get out for a little ride today...we got 2" of rain on Friday in the rain gauge..we sure needed it..
you guys are starting to boom yet .....keep your eyes and ears open you might get in on a good one .....
wow look at them guys in Ontario at the gm truck plant that just sucks but the righting is on the wall time to move on what I would do is pack up and head to Saskatchewan before it take right of it's going to go bigger then Alberta....get in before it cost to much...
well have to get out side to start some work...talk to you later
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 06-08-2008, 11:56 PM I know exactly what you're saying rick. We've got to many things on the go right now too. We need to be sawing lumber spraying fields and hauling our logs home. I think we're going to start that tomorow if all goes well. Going to make a few trips with the ol dodge and the gooseneck trailer and see how it goes. Hopefully we can get the semi in there and give er and get it done. There's somewhere around 30 or 40 semi loads to haul out. Would be nice to have it all done in two weeks but with everything else going on I don't think we'll make it.
It's juts plain ol scarey as to where it's headed too. Looks like there's no end in sight for fuel prices for the next little while. And that's the problem, it doesn't matter what they charge they know we'll pay it because we have to. Without fuel the world would pretty much stop turning.
Didn't get over to do the job today at all. They guy was up north fishing. I was wanting to check with him to make sure he still wanted to do it.
I'll definatley have to take a look at it first and make sure there's enough work to make it worth my while. If I had my own low bed I'd probably just put the rate up a little extra and go and do the job but with all the monkeying around it starts to count up. I don't think the guy wont pay me it's wiether or not my rate will be to high for the job. It's still a good idea though to try and get at least some money up front. There's not to many people around doing small jobs with a cat so it's not like people have much to chose from. There is another fellow who has been doing some work with his cat this year but I think now he's busy with his track hoes again. I'm going to ask the fellow who's in charge of it if there's any chance of geting work or not. Hasn't been to bad for big fires so far this year but it's teribly dry in the bush and there's not really any sign of rain in the near future either. That's why we want to get our logs out as soon as we can. We're scared of them burning up.
I managed to get out for a ride today on my quad. It's the first biger ride that I've been on this year. Put on 52 kms I think it was. Nothing major but it was still a nice little drive. I was going to go up to the river but decided to save the fuel and just go home.
I'm kind of hoping that some things will get going around me and maybe I can get in on some of it with some more construction equipment. Would like to get a hoe still a ts-14 or 621 would come in handy from time to time too.lol.. I keep thinking if thigs ever do take off they might have to build up some of these roads around here. Would be good ot have a few pieces of equipment to work with. Only problme would be getting bonded. From what I've heard it can be pretty expensive.
That's definatley a big hit to the people who work there.
Sure hope you can send some of that rain our way. We could use a real nice gentle rain. A inch maybe inch and a half would be just perfect right now. Fields are very dry right now.
Ryan
Rick K 06-15-2008, 11:13 AM what I saying is it's like your ahead of schedule and I'm so far behind schedule...you do have alot to get done more them us 30 to 40 loads wow the fuel bill will be high...it's crazy what we are paying Ryan....
it makes one think where is it going with the pricing of the fuel Ryan, how the hell does a framer do it at this rate they might be better to leave it right in the field...your right the world would stop...
fishing yes you should see some of the rich Americans going by our place going fishing wow they have money or the banker is good to them one of the two...
well try to get your cost up front that way if they don't pay then at least your cost is covered...because who can afford a hit like that it would hurt..big time...I get Glen to move our Equipment around he raised the low bed price from 125 to 150 because of the fuel per hour...nasty eh..hell I ordered stuff thought the states the other day and they emailed me the bill and it had 3.30 on it for fuel no bs...
yes I would get them out all the hard work up in smoke is no good that would hurt...
it has not been nice out here Claudette went over to the framer place with her quad to get some cow poop for here flower garden that it for the riding ....we went away again to the states on Thursday ...did some shopping home late last night cloth are so much cheaper down there it's worth the trip...
no way you do not want a toilet 621 flash that to lit wow big money working hard 7 to 8 gallons a hour wow ....we are moving to rock trucks Ryan to train on them toilets are a killer on the fuel bill we keep track of the fuel each piece uses....this July will be one of the last time we use them we are going with 25 ton 6x6 cat rock trucks...hoe's are cheap on fuel ...
you have to have all your paper work in order I could give you a name of a guy to call he does Glen bonding he is good it's worth the call ....he will give you all the info to get bonded...
all it does is rain here and south in the states..I bet we have had over 4 inches in a few weeks...
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 06-16-2008, 09:59 AM It's going to be high enough, that's for sure. It's not to bad though because it's only 40 miles round trip. Clear diesel still isn't cheap though that's for sure.
This fall is gona be the big one for farmers. The bills I mean. Grain prices really do need to go up more before we can come out ahead. That or we need one helluva good crop. And so far the crops aren't looking exceptionaly good. We did get a nice rain though that we so desperatley needed. Got about a inch that soaked in real nice.
It's just a crazy cycle. Gas goes up then groceries and everything else goes up so people need more wages then, then the people making these things put the price up more to compensate then the people who buy these things need more money again. I really don't know when or where it's going to stop but boy is ever going to crash hard when it all goes south.
Never been around a 621 before. The guy I worked for had two ts-14 and two ts-24. Those buggers would sure go threw the fuel in a day too. He ran the one 24 right out of fuel the one day.
To bad that you guys haven't been able to get out for a ride at all. Sure glad that we haven't had that much rain. Would sure make a mess of things again around here. The slews are fianlly starting to dry up again. If they stay dry I might go ditching this fall with the cat.
That's okay for now, that'll probably be a ways down the road yet. Got to take it one step at a time. Any gov.tendered jobs I suspect it's a necesity though.
Ryan
Rick K 06-16-2008, 08:46 PM can you burn purple .....just tell them it's for the farm...
yes your right it will be real scary in my eyes I think Ryan...the crops here are under water in places not good..
yes it is a crazy way ....like a dog casing his tail eh just can't get it...
toilet's you need big coin to make them pay and nobody has that type of coin Ryan..we will be over 30,000 in the next training class on fuel each machine runs 160 hours in total maybe just a few more hours and that is it...6 pieces...gen set 30 kw ...I might be buying a 06 320 CL Caterpillar hoe in the next few days for training it is a sweet on I will send you the link on it ...
maybe this weekend we will nothing on the slate ...
they do but out construction orders Ryan and you do not need a bond any jobs posted here in Manitoba that start with a X4550 that is a construction order but if it is 3340 that is a bonded job...I do not know how Sask works though...
Rick:wink:
Rick K 06-16-2008, 08:49 PM http://catused.cat.com/en/
I will send the info on the hoe to you soon Ryan you might have seen this site already if not enjoy it ....
Rick
poor farmer/logger 06-17-2008, 01:37 AM If it was all firewood then we could without any problems. They get pretty sticky though if they catch ya doing it.
We're just about done spraying now. I did our canary seed today. All that's left now is about 130 ac. of oats. Looks like it could rain tomorow though so we'll probably haul again.
That is one big ol fuel bill, that's for sure. That used to be what our fuel bill was for the year. I don't know what it's going to work out to this year though. I'm scared to think about it.lol..
You can just send it over here for a few weeks this fall Rick,lol.. Would sure come in handy to ditch out those slews that I was talking about doing with the cat. I'd really like to make the water run too.lol..
Hopefully it's nice enough so that you guys can at least go out for a little rip.
I imgaine there's all sorts of legal things that a person would have to understand when dealing witht those tenders. Shouldn't be to complicated but with gov. it doesn't seem to go that easy most of the time.
Don't know if I told you or not but the winch on my quad went to heck on me. Tore it apart about 2 weeks ago and found that one of the gears had striped off in it. I don't really know why it striped off but it did. There's a hex shaft that goes threw from the motor to the disengaging part of it. The last gear that it goes threw had striped off on the inside where the hex shaft goes threw. Got a new gear from a fried that works at a dealer though and just about have it all fixed up again now though. Would've been done it tonight but I got busy rinsing out the sprayer and didn't get done till a little after 10:00.
Thanks for the link Rick, sure lots of equipment on there. No ol cats like mine though I noticed. Found a real nice D7H out in western Canada but it had 18,000 hrs on it and they still wanted 135,000 for it. It was a latter model but it was still a pile of money for it. That's what I'd like to eventually work my way up to is a real nice D7H or by the time that comes around a D7R.
Ryan
Rick K 06-17-2008, 07:49 PM but officer come by this winter you can see it when it is cut up into fire wood for our wood stove...and we just might let you see how hot it gets inside...ha ha..joke..
good show then you guys can going fishing ...
yes it is nasty eh I sure drives me nuts....up and up it goes the price...crazy nasty wild it just hurts big time...it can jump 10 to 15 cents a lt ...
yes... right to my place for a test run I will have it with the 6 M to build the pad for the sea can trailers...
it's not that bad Ryan I have had good dealing with them I have made alot of good friends over the years that work of the department..very few bad ones...
what the hell darn quad...
to much they are on glue... hell the 320 Cl I'm dealing on has 1296 hrs on it come with wrist 2 buckets quick attach all the window guards 85 % under carriage AC ETC for around 120,000.00.....we might do the deal tomorrow we have started taking turkey...
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 06-18-2008, 01:24 AM We took a volantary find once because of those guys. Should of fought it but didn't need the hastle at all. We could've one too but it just wasn't worth the hastle involved to try and get anywhere with them. That's the part I meant with dealing with the gov. in a way. Always someone watching over you. I've seen it with the Rural municipalitys as well. You get some know it all in there that is going to tell you how to do the job. I don't konw how well I would handle that. Would be one thing if I was stuck and didn't know how to do the job but if by chance I did know what I was doing I would expect them to leave me alone or keep quite. Most of the time that's not the case though. Around here I know of a some people that have chased good contractors away because they were so miserable with them.
If only we were done hauling logs. We're not quite one third done now. We just got the semi all fixed up though so we can start hauling with it now. We had to put a deck on the trailer and get the pulp stakes back on. Still got two smaller ones to put on but it shouldn't take to long to do. We've hauled 14 loads now with the old dodge and the gooseneck trailer. If we were to keep on hauling with it there'd probably be another 100 loads to go.
No messing around ehh, just bring in the big toys to get the job done. lol..
Got the winch back on today and it works good again for now. The dealer I bought it from had a snowblower on the front of it and we think that's maybe what did it in. All those times that it went up and down plus all the extra weight on it when they were driving it around. It's the exact same winch as you've got on your quad I think. Mine is a warn 2500 lb.
That's not to bad of a price. I think brand new Hitatchis are just a little bit more then that. Mind you that's with one bucket and no wrist or plumbing. Would sure love to have one like that but I think if I get one it'll have to be a few years older. Cant go first class all the time around here unfortuantley.
Ryan
Rick K 06-24-2008, 09:20 AM I have not seen them around for some time but with the price of fuel I think they might be seen more often now...I here you we have had a few problems in the past with a few of them tripping with there position...I here you but some times they might be able to help I hope...but they most time leave you alone..they have given a few contractor a rough ride too..I guess it is easer to get along with them eh..but I do here what your saying and your right...
wow lot's of wood Ryan you have done well..
well it might not be that easy I wish it was try to get it organized .....sometimes I fell like hiring a contractor just give me a finished product ...it just might happen yet...time will tell..
good show we still have not been out yet I'm off the till the 3rd of July...
yes it is good a new one is up around 200,000 we have one year worth of warranty left on it just over a 1,000 hrs on it and it works 3 years or 5,000 hrs which ever come first..
we have to go close to it because we are selling a product to a client and if it does not look good or run good it spells trouble for us...
Michael has done his 3rd level I'm very happy for him one more to go then he will have his red seal. Michael is off this week too so we will be spending sometime together.
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 06-29-2008, 12:55 AM Yes, it's about time for them to visit again I supose. Got to make sure everyone is staying honest.lol..
We've hauled 5 semi loads now and about 24 loads on the goosekneck. Still got about 5 semi loads left of saw logs. And then the fire wood. The piles just don't seem to get any smaller.lol... Starting to get some pretty big piles down at the mill yard though. That's how we feel with these logs now. Would sure be nice to just hire someone to come in and do it and sit back and relax or catch up on everything else. After a while the fun kind of starts to wear off. Especaially when it's something that you don't look forward to, to start with.
Was talking with one fellow at a auction the other day and he said that 00-02 hitatchi 200's were selling for around 50,000. Some less some more. That was with a bucket and a thumb and around 5000 hours in real nice shape. I think that's the way I'd be looking. little mroe then I could afford to spend but I still don't want to buy real old stuff either. I like to stay current if and when I can afford it.
Looks like I'm going to have to spray my canola again. I sprayed it just before the first rain that we had because I had to and after it rained on it there were some more weeds and volenteer grain germinate. Another 4,000 bucks or so that I hadn't planed on spending this year. My input bill is allready to high but what do ya do. It's bad enough that it has to be done so I'm just going to bite the bullet and do it. Hopefully it'll help clean up the land some more too.
Congrats to Michael. Good to hear that he is doing good. Good to hear that you guys are getting some time to spend together.
Haven't been out on my quad much since the last trip at all, been to busy hauling logs to go anywhere with it.Ryan
Rick K 06-29-2008, 09:46 AM Well you will be done with the hauling of the wood soon....
wow that is a good price Hitachi & Deere are the same hoe the only difference is Deere has a Deere engine in it. they are good though. A Cat has the resale going for it ...it will bring a bigger dollar most of the time they say plus the support system is real good. Our deal fell though so it's onto another one...it is getting closer to the class time for me looking forward to it time to get out away from the office...I've been using up banked time I don't go back till Thursday. I will start moving stuff up to the site...I will be looking for a wrist bucket for a 320 cl Cat ...
wow that sucks another 4,000 but like you said what do ya do eh...just be nice if you did not have to do it again right...
thanks Ryan I will tell Michael he is off till Wednesday then he starts his new job they will be working at Boeing plant 2 minutes from where he is living sweet he will be at 25 a hour... then next year he will be red seal I hope he goes back in November for his last class done in February...then the big bucks kick in for him...
us neither I hope to take mine to the training course...
Rick:wink:
poor farmer/logger 06-29-2008, 06:38 PM Going up for another semi load tonight. Hauled one this morning before it got real hot and got it unloaded. Hopefully we can finish this up pretty quick. Going to have to go in tomorow and try to get some spray from my dealer. Still have to flush the sprayer out and haul more water. It's really a bad time to have to do it because of the log hauling but it's got to be done. We're suposed to have everything out by the 7th of july and I don't know if we're going to make it or not.
Would still like to have it equiped with a processor for the logging but that might just be a dream. Cat always seems to hold thier value. With the exception on some of the ag stuff. It'll be nice to get out of the office I'm sure. Not much fun siting there all day long. Although I imagine you've got it nice and air conditioned there. Might be missing that when you're working in the heat. As long as you're in a machine you'd be allright but it's starting to get pretty hot outside now.
Nothing wrong with that wage. Just a hop and a skip to work ehh. That'll help out with the gas bill too I'm sure. Don't want to be driving anymore then you have to these days it seems.
Are you still going to do those roads at the lake?
Ryan
