last year the fuel pump on my 86 s10 pickup went out. replaced the fuel pump, and it started fine. the next day, went out to start it, and the pump wouldnt kick on. the relay also wouldnt click. starts fine with starting fluid, but like i said. relay and pump arent getting any juice. I replaced the relay with one out of another 2.8 s10 that worked. i really need to get this thing going. any advice would be greatly appriciated. thanks

Troy, assuming this is an EFI vehicle???
When you turn the ignition on, do you hear the pump cycle for two seconds then shut off? Relay clicks? If not you need to check powers and grounds to the ECM, make sure everything is wired correctly. Worse case senerio, you've got a computer problem, but verify wiring first!

Do you have access to a fuel pressure gauge? On my '88, I had a flaky in-tank pump, that would allow the fuel PSI to bleed off and the F.I. system wouldn't allow the engine to start without sufficient PSI pushing fuel to the injectors. My problem was intermittent, though, and seemed better once warmer weather arrived. It would spike up when the key was turned, but it wouldn't hold pressure as there's some relief baffle at the pump apparently.
I never got around to installing my new in-tank pump, as the job sounded just too involved. Then my truck got stolen, and it wasn't my problem anymore. . . .
Good Luck!

Best place to start is to check the fuses. I use a power probe but, a test light will work too! There are two ecm fuses and one fuel pump fuse. If any of those fail the relay will not turn on. If you have no power going to any one of those fuses with the key turned on the next step would be the fusible links. If none of the fusible links are bad it could be the ignition switch or maybe the ecm itself! The biggest cause of elecrical problems is grounds, start there!
