: Went To The Doc Today!
Snow Monkey 10-05-2002, 04:08 PM  went to the doctor today and was diagnosed with a hernia(abdominal)!! Doc said that there is nothing i can do but lose weight, that will help my condition. She is out of her mind!!!Some days it is really bad, feels like a kick in the you know what and other days i am fine!! Everyone i have talked to told me that yes losing weight is a good thing(duh) but has not much to do with a hernia! Anybody else had any expierience with a hernia and what they have done to correct it? :( ???
Sled Dogg 10-05-2002, 04:11 PM i'VE HAD SEVERAL FRIEND S GET THEM LIFTING WEIFGTS WRONG. tHEY ALL HAD TO HAVE SURGURY. i'V3E PERSONALLY NEVER HEARD OF SOMEONE LOSING WEIGHT TO GET RID OF A HERNIA. DOESN'T MAKE SENSE SINCE A HERNIA IS BASICALLY PULLED MUSCLES.

Snow Monkey 10-05-2002, 04:13 PM The doctor was out of her tree!!I am going tommorow to get a second opinion!!
paul yarek 10-05-2002, 05:22 PM losing weight is better for the surgery, sometimes they have to put in a mesh also. the best known place in the world for hernia repair is here in ontario north of toronto called sholdice clinic. my friends uncle was one of the guys that perfected the process that they have. people go there from all over the world.
Snow Monkey 10-05-2002, 05:28 PM I realise that losing weight would help the surgery, but she was making it out that the hernia was due to weight!! She must have fallen off the cabbage truck :D
paul yarek 10-05-2002, 05:44 PM i hope you just didn't hear her right. don't leave it because those things can get as big as a football in no time.
TallCool1 10-05-2002, 05:54 PM I've had three of those darn things, and I think I'm on my fourth, but it doesn't bother me that much, so I haven't done anything about it. Hey s/m, maybe you ought to tell her to spend a little more time down there just to make sure :D . Oh well, w/my last two they did use the mesh to patch things up. She should not have said there is nothing they can do.
Good luck, and you should get another opinion, I've never heard a doctor say that there is nothing he/she can do about a hernia.
Jim

Steven Hohman 10-05-2002, 08:22 PM My neighbor just had the surgery, he's doing pretty good, it was the size of a small bastketball the day before the surgery. Of coarse, he is in his 50s and I'm sure your in your 20s
ZR Sled Head 10-05-2002, 10:55 PM Pauls correct, Shouldice hospital is world renowned for its hernia procedures, none better. Located in Thornhill Ontario. :)
Wolfman 10-05-2002, 10:59 PM wazzup with doctors these days? You gotta give up this, or you gotta give up that, but no real solutions. I agree with the others. Tell your doctor to take a hike, and get another opinion.
Snow Monkey 10-05-2002, 11:52 PM :D Gettin another opinion tommorow!!! Doesn't help that there is a health care strike on right now as well!!! Man i hate doctors...they drive me banana's....lol
Snow Monkey 10-06-2002, 04:53 PM :D Got my second opinion today!! I have an appointment with a surgeon to check it out and give me a diagnosis on the situation!! Alot better than what the other boneheaded doctor did for me!! :D :p Yeah...now i will live!!!lol

ARCTICZRT600 10-07-2002, 09:32 AM I have had a hienal hernia (spelling) and that doesn't get surgery, it is treated with diet and medication. It is not your normal hernia. My .02
sleddinfool 10-07-2002, 09:54 PM I also went to the docs today. As you may know I went in and had sinus surgery last Friday the 27th. I went in today for a follow up visit and he suked all the blood clots etc.. out with what looked like a hoover tube. LOL I even told him to fire up the hoover, he laughed. My nose feels better, but I have a headache from my eyes vibrating around my head when he was in there. LOL. Oh well I'm on darvosett(sp) and feel pretty good. Best of luck, get better before the season starts. Kevin

Darvoset is childs candy, when I had that surgery in April the doc gave me Vicodin. Take two for pain, and believe me, I felt no pain :sleepy:  Until they were gone. ???
