HI guys I was going to post two warnings, the current one you will see and another printed in "Offshore" New England Boat Magazine. The first warning I got from my Honda dealer when my mower stop running, even after I pulled the carb and cleaned it out, it was still messed up. CT, NY and RI(?) WERE using gas with MBTE, now banned in NY and CT. Both states switch over in 2005 with out any notice to the general public. For boat owners with fiberglass tanks pre-1980's your screwed. That tank has to be replaced because the ethanol eats at the resin and it gets mixed up with the fuel. Also, E-10 does not mix well with MBTE gas, still used in MA, ME, VT and I think in NH. I know MA will switch in 2007. VT, NH, ME maybe some one has more detail if they have switched. E-10 is a solvent that cleans all the gunk built up in our fuel lines and tries to push it thru the carbs, thus plugging them, so even after a good cleaning, no garrantees, they will not plug up again. I have has two mowers redone so far. I have pulled the gas out of my sleds, even with Fitch Drop-ins the gas smelled funky.
So I just wanted to make everyone aware of what's coming your way if you haven't had the problems already. I know for a fact my friends marine business has more than tripled in carb rebuilds.
PS, If you , like me, like to store your sled with a full tank of fuels, or even a few gallons, put in CAM 2 racing fuel. It can sit longer an has no ethanol. If you have fuel injection, burning E-10 over 90 days old will still burn, but gravity fed systems can have an issue.
