Hey all,

I am an extreme newbie to this sport. Only ridden with friends a couple of times on trails and shuttling out to ice fish (a bunch, but not real riding). Anyway I've been looking at used sleds in the area for a couple months and purchased 2 sleds with a tilt trailer the other day without doing much research on them. Seemd like a great deal so I jumped on it and now I'm feeling a bit of buyers remorse. They are a 1998 RMK 600 with 1400 miles and a 1999 RMK 700 with 1600 miles. Both start and run great, very good overall condition etc.

Do I understand correctly that the '99 is a Gen II? The '98 is not? What can I expect or what should I look for on these sleds as far as problem areas or performance? I'm kicking myself for not doing any checking first. Thanks in advance for any input.

yes the 99 is a gen II and the 98 is not you will be very happy with both of those sleds they are great. I have a 98 RMK 700 ( it has a moded 600 engine in it) and i love it you might want to take it a little easy at first thought both of those sled do have a lot of power for a newbie but after a few rides youll love them the only thing is they might be a little harder to ride really fast on curvy trail becasue they are long tracks but a least you wont get stuck best of luck with you new sled an congrads

i have been fourtunate to own many sleds over the years and i must say(for me) the 94 to 99's were with out a doubt some of the best snowmobiles to own. i had a 94 xlt tripple and that is still running with 12,000 miles on it. i also had a 99 polaris 600 touring that ran awsome. i aswell had a 97 rmk that was superb. i personally think you made a great purchase. and congrads on the new sleds. welcome to the sport. i hope you enjoy it as much as i have.

be carefull riding on hard packed trails for long trips if u have high paddels on the track. u dont get the cooling u need for the sliders, and u can damage the paddels, or rip them off !! i have a 159 track with 51 mm paddels, but i only use it in deep snow climbing the hills.....

Both sleds are very durable and dependable. The tip about cooling is important; it's easy to stick the track to the hyfax and overheat the engine in hard snow conditions. Installing ice scratchers is a way to help, as is stopping from time to time to kick snow into the suspension if you are riding on the cold, hard trails.
