: Zr 900 @drags
Sled Dogg 10-06-2002, 04:36 PM This thing was absolutly unreal for a stock sled. Suspension tied down and studs kicked but. There was one that didn't have the suspension tied down also. they were running against crank shop big bores and FIII,Machs all the big players and beating them 90% of the time if they got the hole shot. Some times from behind. They would nailed it then lightly let off about 10/15 ft out then pin the throttle. Incredible acceleration and top end.

scratchinmyass 10-06-2002, 05:24 PM Thats what I like to here, I just bought a ZR900 and am very anxious to see what it is capable of. I am going to a local grass drags in about two weeks so I guess I will find out. The only thing is, is that there probably won't be anything there stock. But, then again I guess that will make me feel that much better if I stomp on somebody.
NDMtnSledder 10-06-2002, 05:26 PM Caleb I saw in another post were you said how the F7 did but I was wondering if there were any F5s running and how they did.
Sled Dogg 10-06-2002, 05:50 PM No f-5's 2were there or revs. Where are you located scratchinmyass/ there are drags at capac again in two weeks.
Caleb
slarson 10-06-2002, 06:38 PM I was at a grassdrag on saturday, there was on F5 that was in the stock class (with a pro driver) and it won its first round against and XCSP and a formula deluxe 500 and in the final it got second place to an MXZ 500. Close race, the Doo may have won it on the tree.
sled-head 10-06-2002, 07:10 PM He11 I told you guys last year that the 900 was fast :D I hope the guys who called me a liar choke on this
Sled Dogg 10-06-2002, 08:26 PM To funny there! This isn't the sled we saw this spring. they really tweaked it for production this year.
Caleb
sleddinfool 10-06-2002, 08:46 PM Glad to hear it. I lked to one of the guys at speedwerx Friday, he told me that the 900 has such uncredible mid range pull. I told him I put his head on and was working on pipes, reeds etc... he told me I better hang on when done. Kevin
PowderBoy 10-06-2002, 09:05 PM Glad to hear on this end too. I saw one running the lake down at big moose last march. He wasnt doing anything special against the 800 triples and the 800 twins. I know we had some discussion on this last year. They obviously must have made some changes this year. theres no reason why that sled shouldnt be ahead of the pack.
Sled Dogg 10-06-2002, 10:18 PM The thing flat out ROCKED!!! Why are you doing all of that already Kevin?
Caleb
sled-head 10-07-2002, 12:29 AM Ya right.....tweaked the early release is the same as the production. No engine changes acording to the rep......And if anybody is going to try to sell you its the boys at Cat. I will see first hand at service school in Thief River this November.
KING CAT 10-07-2002, 10:13 AM i know cat did a gear change, maybe some clutch and jetting work. that may mean alot! happy sledin! SWRules
Sled Dogg 10-07-2002, 10:50 AM The thing was a beast out of the hole and seamed to be at shifting out fast and just flat out flying. It's going to shock alot of unsuspecting people. I'd put 800 decals and spank the heck out of guys if I owned one. what a sleeper.
Caleb
PowderBoy 10-07-2002, 11:59 AM They almost always make changes between the two. If cat sent you the detailed pre-production release specs last year and the ones from this year there are going to be changes. Thats all part of engineering and improvement. So sled dogg if you saw a stock 900 running good then you saw something better then what i saw. Some guys took the 900 for a spin down the lake and came back saying "im glad i didnt order one" i wasnt happy to hear that.
sled-head 10-07-2002, 12:25 PM I know they have a gear change and I am looking into the CDI. The rest is the same......Oh ya they changed the hand warmer switch ;) That should make it go better.
PowderBoy 10-07-2002, 12:28 PM Thats not a hand warmer switch its a "Push to Win" switch... you have to look closer hahaha
phazerhater 10-07-2002, 12:39 PM Dang, I looked all over my sled for the "puch to win" button and can't find one!!! haha :p
phazerhater 10-07-2002, 12:52 PM No wonder I couldn't find it! I was looking for puch, not push. There it is!!hhahaha :withstupid:
TallCool1 10-07-2002, 12:57 PM Maybe the ones that you guys are saying weren't that impressive just weren't set up right, even b-4 the changes.
Caleb, that's what I'm thinking about doing when I paint my ZR's hood soon. Either leave the numbers off or put 600 decals on it...somehow I just wouldn't feel right though whipping on someone w/600 decals. So I think I will just leave the numbers off and let everyone guess. I was also thinking of just putting the Z decals from the 500 sleds on it...decisions, decisions.
Glad to see the 900 do so well...Sled-head, don't be too cruel on those other riders out there. :D :p But if someone wants to bet you $$ to try to beat ya, don't feel bad when you take their money.
sled-head 10-07-2002, 06:55 PM I had my dealer contact cat today to ask about the CDI maping and other performance issues Guess what .....Its like I said,no changes. So sleddog can you please enlighten me as to how the production is "TWEAKED" for performance so that I can phone all of the other unlucky 900 owners and share with them.
Sled Dogg 10-07-2002, 08:15 PM All I can say is no one was very impressed this spring with them. Summer drags they weren't doing anything special. Now the fll sleds come in and they are cleaning house. I guess you'll just have to ride one or se3e one to understand. When the ZR 900 ran sunday most people stood and watched it. Then all made comments on how they can't believe it's ruynning so good.
Caleb
Sharkey 10-07-2002, 08:29 PM I was wondering if this was a sanctioned race, as no Pro classes can be over 800 cc in size. Or was this semi pro where there is no tech except safety regulations??? A 900 stock at a drag is unusual. Except trail stock or Semi-Pro. it apparently was a free for all race for fun. With no tech, it could have been a 1100 cc D and D Kit. At least the sled kicked butt. Which it should.
Sled Dogg 10-07-2002, 08:45 PM It was havak Sharkey. 75 sleds facing every direction with none on the line. Some one would pull up and out of no wher a few would fly in to run. It was a run-what-ya-brung and hope you brought eneough race. The MSDRA was there with there tree though. It was mainly weekend warriors. there were about 5-10 very seriouse players making 215hp or more I'd say froma guess. Maybe not that much HP who knows. Heck you wouldn't believe the fools still running with there carbides on the skis LOL. Only saw one true grass track. No classes or prizes. It was a blast to watch.
Caleb
Sled Dogg 10-07-2002, 08:46 PM There were more than 75 sleds there FYI. that was just how many there were near the starting lanes at times.
Caleb
catrules2000 10-07-2002, 09:24 PM Sharkey, First of all, where are you getting your info on no sleds being above 800cc in a stock class??? Do you not have a 1000cc Stock Class?? Secondly, why are you doubting that the 900 runs that well?
sleddinfool 10-07-2002, 09:41 PM Sleddog, Iam doing tis work on my sled already because --- well--- I guess because I can!. LOL Seriously, I like to run just a little better then stock, and of course I usully go a little overboard, instead of just a clutch kit which only a limited amount of people do I figured I might as well go a little more. I usually keep them on the dependable side, I did the same to my 99 zrt head kit pipes reeds etc.. and it never missed a beat and almost spanked my brothers 800. I regeared for topend but he wouldn't race again, I beat him to about 70mph and he pulled about two sled lentghs on me and we would run out of room. I geared for some serious top end knowing he would probably get me out of the hole but I would run bye him when we hit the century mark. Kevin
phazerhater 10-07-2002, 09:56 PM Ah, no such thing as overboard! If I end up with a 900(which I will as long as current sled sells)I will end up slapping some "quite"(hehe) performance pipes on, reeds, change gears, and clutch work. That will last me until it's broke in, then the tinkering REALY begins!! LOL
J/K From the sounds of it, she will fly plenty good in stock form enough to last me this season. Then I will have next summer to "play" with it.
Let us know how she runs with those pipes.
Sled Dogg 10-08-2002, 02:11 PM Just remember Kevin, when they ask ya if it's stock say yup! they don't need to know it's pro-stock LOL
Caleb
PowderBoy 10-08-2002, 07:30 PM Dont ask dont tell. it has always worked for me... I was running a Hooper mod in my ZRT shhhh nobody knew.. but i definetly turned alot of heads.... boy do i miss the days of being young and stupid... wait it wasnt thar long ago
Sharkey 10-08-2002, 10:40 PM There are on ISR sanctioned PRO classes above 800 cc, even Arctic Cat agreed to it years ago. I have rule books and raced for 17 years and was Minnesota Overall points runner up a little over 1 year ago. I have a 800 and there is no class to go up from except improved stock period. Yes there are trail stock classes, but no real technical inspection except safety and sometimes at Hatdays a fuel test if your lucky. I f there was a 900 class I would sign up for it with My Mach Z, 7 years ago I did and won. Oh the good old days! I also would love 1320 ft races- 1/4 mile drags! Getting off subject, sorry bye!
folgers 10-09-2002, 01:02 PM sled dog
would like to see the #S and what BIG BOYS did it beat??
i find it hard to beleive !
Sled Dogg 10-09-2002, 07:43 PM th eBig boys were running the normal modded Mach's,FIII's,Zerts,t-cats,one or two xcr's,Some crazy Ultra, etc. If it didn't beat them he was right there with them at the end.
Caleb
folgers 10-10-2002, 11:11 AM what big boys?
your trying to tell me that a 900 cat beat lanny benoints mach?
or even one of hoopers race sleds? i doubt it
just a example
PowderBoy 10-10-2002, 09:41 PM I think he said ran with it... not beat... and if you can make a stock 900 run close with a hooper mod triple then i have to say that is an accomplishment
