This past weekend, I was checking out this new Skidoo Dealer in my town. They had a few specials on some 550F's. Good deal.. Going to finance for about 180 a month..
but questions are .. What are some specs on these sleds?..
There are 3 500's to choose from.. The 550F/550X/500ss...
would the 500ss be a liquid cooled? and what kind of speeds and horse do these sleds have?..
thanks

The 500SS is actually a 600. Yes its liquid cooled. It should be good for at least 100 mph and should be putting out 115-120 hp.

500SS liquid- 100-105 HP 100mph
550F fan- 70 HP 80mph
I've spent a lot of time on 550s and have never experienced a problem. 500SSs are also extremely reliable. They are both excellent sleds.
The question is money vs. speed. The 500SS is more powerful, but how much more is it (vs. 550) for more power. Ask yourself how you are going to use the sled (i.e lake, tight trails, etc.) and you will be more happy with the sled that fits you best.

I had to give you the stereotypical response but I would start her off with the fan model. To a seasoned rider the weight difference isn't real noticable between a liguid and a fan but to a beginer its huge. You should be able to get the fan for less money in addition to her have a sled that she will feel more in control of. When my wife first started she thought my liquid Formula Z 583 was just way to much sled, but after a couple of seasons of riding her fan she was ready to tackle just about anything.

My wife started on my Zl600 and did great. She now has the 500SS (600CC) MXZ Trail. She absolutley loves it. Although the fan sleds are great starter sleds, I don't have to upgrade her sled in a couple years now.
She is pretty good riding her 4 wheeler though, so that may have helped.

I started out with a 500 formula(97) and now have the 500ss (05). I absolutely love my sled ! As these people are telling you, they are quite reliable. No problems at all ! Although this is for all practical purposes a 600, my 500 was plenty of power for trail riding.. My husband just prefers the liquid cooled sleds over the fan's but both the 550f and 500ss sleds are good. I think for the buck you can't go wrong with the 500ss.

MXZ 500F or MXZ 550 - good starter sleds. My 500F tops out at about 80MPH on a cold day. Good backup trail sled, nice and light.

Do you have kids? If so how old are they and will they be riding in a few years? Id buy the 550 f is you have kids going to ride in a few years. And if you are financing it, whats $20 a month for the 500 ss.
If its just for your wife and if she has a little experiance, get the 500SS, that will be her last sled!!
I have owned alot of sleds, and I was looking for a 550 fan, but could make a deal, so I bought a 380 f, in the Rev chassis. Not the sled I wanted but will work for my 13 yr old, and in a few yhears, he will likely ride a 500ss.
What kind of money are you talking? Check around there is alot of non-current machines out there.
Let us know what you end up with.
