looking at buying above noted snowmobile.
Not familiar with yamaha's.
Machine is in great shape looks to be well looked after original owner, 6000 km.
Anyone know anything about these sleds?
Things to look for?
I'm taking another look at it tomorrow nite

I am not sure about the Exciter, but I have a 1990 Phazer II...If it is anything like the Phazer I say definately check it out. I guess Phazer's are bulletproof, though I am not sure about the engine on the exciter. I know its 570, but I don't know the reliability...

I like my Phazer, even after all of the trouble it has given me (I think I got a lemon, because I've never heard of anyone having as much problems...)

I've always thought about maybe getting an exciter...I don't think the suspension is very good at all, if you put gas shocks in I think it's better, but you still have to work at it to go fast over bumps...

Things to look for...

-steering slop, the bushings may be worn, resulting in handlebar play
-rear suspension cracks, my phazer had broken pieces I had to weld
-pogo shocks operational (not much suspension there, you want all you can get)
-not sure about cooling system (mine's fan)
-track, worn? track clips present? lugs broken off?
-skis, skags/carbides good? any ski damage?
-all instruments work? speedo/tach/lights/handwarmers/brake light
-track sliders, are they worn down/through?
-oil injection...does it smoke when you start it? (then you know its getting oil)

if you can ride...(even on grass)
-clutches shifting correctly?
-suspension?
-spitting/sputtering/idle?
-smooth acceleration?

Thats all I can think of right now...hopefully that'll get you started...

Is it an enticer or exciterII ? I'm not sure about enticers but the last year of production for the exciter was 93, in 94 it was the v max, a totally different sled.

It's an ENticer, read the title. Utility sleds are popular in NL

Although recent posters in this thread seem to think you are looking at an Exciter, I understand that you are looking into an Enticer II.

Luckily, a great deal of the advice that is being given about steering slop and front suspension characteristics is also valid for the ET410.

At 6000km's, the primary clutch may need a rebuild kit, it's about $200 at your dealer, $300 installed. Those engines are bulletproof and I have seen several with over 20k on it. Then again, what else is new, it's a Yamaha. You will want o inspect the PTO side oil seal behind the primary though; they are somewhat prone to leakage but it's an easy fix.

If you're not looking for ride quality as much as a good do-it-all sled that can be a useful sled at the cabin, moose hunting and hauling a medium load, the Enticer will not disappoint. Even in the worst case scenario, it was a far better sled than the 92-94 Skandic II's of the same era and about equal to the Skandic 380's that debuted in 1995.

Good luck.

I agree with Lab boy

A couple of Trappers up here use the Enticer IIs

Decent power out of the 408cc engine to put around the trap lines
