No kidding there.

It is crazy that is announced before the majority of the riding public had a chance to use them in real-world riding yet ???

That's interesting, SnoGoer has the exact same sleds listed. I wonder how both mags. came to the same conclusion??hehe

The amazing thing is how can they make this decision based on pre production sleds. Just take a look at the changes AC has made to the F-7. The fact of the matter is that they had there mids made up even befor they rode them. It was the right decision politically for them. What a scam. Wait untill spring and then the true sled of the year will be known. :cussing:

Thats the reason I look at the pictures in Snow-Goer and AM Snow, and read Snowtech.

It's no different than Motor Trend with their car of the year. Yammi got it for being innovative. It has nothing to do with how fast it really is, or how well built it is.

Remember, even the Chevy Vega took automobile of the year back in it's day. :0:

??? We can all read about the innovations..........but what good are they if we don't know how they work!!!They should put 1000 miles on them first then name sled of the year......which innovations workied the best, the most reliable, comfortable, and on and on....not everyone buys a sled based on how fast it is..... they should determine it on real world miles after the season is over..... just my 2 cents again :D

You will have no arguement from me in THAT regard snowmonkey. I agree fully. All the innovation in the world isn't worth a cent if the machine is always broke.

Wow.. I must have completley missed the boat.. It seems to me that RX realy wasen't hyped like all the others.. I got tired of seeing the Ski-doo commercials on TV for the REV that are in the James Band movie... ;) Maybe I missed the Boat on the Yamaha RX.. From the pictures I saw, It realy didn't look to much differnt... BUt then again I guess the REV and FC kinda reminded me of last years Vipers... So hey, Condrats to YAMAHA. But i still aient selling my kitty!! :D

I think this year we need to have a SnowmobileWorld Reader's Choice Sled of the Year.

But only after the snow is flying. maybe in Jan.

Boy, no disrespect to the RX1, but bad example.

No, not meant to be a comparison. Just an example of how subjective those awards are. IIRC, the vega got the award because they had an all aluminum engine, which was very innovative in those days. Motor Trend gave Chevy the award for being innovative. In that case the car turned out to be one of the biggest pieces of junk to hit the roads.

As for Yamaha getting sled of the year, it is soley for being innovative, and has nothing to do with how the machine is going to perform in the real world. Yamaha will of course, advertise their receipt of that reward for all it's worth.

I think it's close betweeb the rev and rx-1. But the rev didn't really break any new groun compared to the RX-1. Thr rx-1 has the centralized mass also so not that. everyone butpolaris has the a arm front.. Yamaha made a giant step in the industry wether we like the thumpers or not. Thats huge what they did and they got credit for it. But they also revolutionized the hydro'forming of the frame that they have the patent on. And they put a whole package together that is very good. Sled of the year usually is the best all around machine that stands above the rest for variouse reasons. Now Doo got sveral other catagorys like the one with there v 1000 and 2 up touring with there 8000sdi. m2c And I'd note that they need a consumers report set-up for sleds so we really see what models are having trouble. It would force the manufactures to step up and correct things faster and not rush sleds to the market.

Sled Dogg makes some good points. All four have been working on the centralized mass issue in their own way. It's just that one mfg is marketing the snot out of it.
I still think it's a meaningless award, created to sell magazines.

Congratulations to Yamaha anyway. Good job.

Sled Dogg,
I'm sure the thought of such a consumers report is the kind of thing that makes a sled mfg. loose sleep. Long overdue buying tool for us consumers.

Hmmmmm, Instead of "Car and Driver," howbout' "Snowmobile and Driver?"

Get the sleds, beat the snot out of them, and then write about what we like and dislike about each model..... Also we could put technical, sporting, and modification articles.

Finally, do like Consumer Retorts and send out surveys to owners on problems they've ha with their sleds, would they buy another, etc........ Instead of colored circles, do colored snowflakes. Black for bad, blue for good, or whatever............

Methinks something like this could actually work.....

"Snowmobile" magazine has a Readers Choice article they do every year where the readers pic the best sleds in certain categories and a best overall sled that seems to be pretty unbias.
"SnowGoer" has a section called First Ride Engine and chassi specs along with their "hits" and "misses" on the sled. They also have a Owners Report section with a rating on EVERYTHING you can think to rate that it informative since they print owners complaints and praises.
All we need is to combine some of the good, unbias articles, along with some tips from "SnowTech" and put it all into one Mag. Sounds like Wolfman has already come up with a good name for it to, Snowmobile and Driver! ;) haha
Now that would be a #1 seller!
