Stopped at my Yamaha Dealer today-had one on the floor-wow it's small! Sitting on it, you can't even see the nose. The seat is really skinny. My dealer and I discussed-he thinks it would be really great to see one in a 120 hp format. Said maybe late winter we'll see something like that. The open area between the tunnel and the seat should be interesting-wonder how much snow throw will come through there. He also said that the company that made the heat exchanger shield for studs went belly up, so as of right now, there are no manufacturers on contract to make the shield, so no studs for a while.....

I sat on it and felt it a little bit and it seems fairly light weight and looks like it would be easy to kick around while riding. Just first impressions. ANyone else seen one up close and personal?

Yes, I saw one last week and watched it go together from the crate.

VERY small was my first impression as well. I am happy to see that it will make a nice sled for the teens, they seem to be missing a sled "just for them" these days.

Looks well built, the seat and trim areas looks to have changed from the original protos and although I hate the look of the tunnel top storage area, at least Yamaha has realized that a sled without seat storage is less than desirable (i.e. RX-1). I installed an Apex seat on my RX-1 and I ended up loving the seat for the additional storage more than anything else!

Can't wait to steal one of those Phazers for a trial run this Winter. No doubt the local dealer will have a demo unit.

I looked at the Phazer Mtn. Looks great but I don't like the 14" wide track and the hole in the top of the tunnel bellow the exhaust. Turbo'd with a 151 track and it would be a great Mtn sled.

There is already turbo kits available but with out a track improvement it will just dig a bigger hole!

Sat on one early spring this year at a show. Man I love the riding position! I am keeping an eye on that chassis in the future as a I can forsee a more powerful engine being shoehorned in there.

saw one at a dealership today also,,, gt version. I had to sit and stair and told the saleman that I would bet that sled gets more conversations started than any sled in there,,, he agreed. I think I like them. It isnt often that I take a liking to a brand new sled,,, hated the revs when they first came out but think they look kewl now,,,, I think the only ones I REALLY liked at first site was the firecat and the viper,,, the viper wasnt a new design,, but man I wanted one.
As for the phazer,,, I think I like the looks of them. I did ask about the hole under the seat and the salesman said he wasnt sure,,, dad said it may be to keep the exhaust cool. not sure
anyhow, I think yamaha hit a home run on this one,,,

Could the hole in the tunnel be for cooling a rear mounted turbo? Maybe mount the intercooler in the rear as well...

I test rode it at haydays and it has lots of throttle response. We could not go very fast because of the small size of the track, but we where able to make both ski lift in the air very easily.

I heard through my grapevine that next year there will be an 800cc Phazer 4-stroke added to the line up. Takes care of the not enough ponies argument, I would think!

I've seen them a bunch of times now, and I am getting used to them. I still think that putting any kind of windshield on it ruins the looks, much like putting one of those geeky windshields on a quad.
I like the ergos too. Feels like it will be very comfortable for playing around on.
I'm still alway surprised at how heavy it feels, lifting either the front or the rear. Maybe I'm just getting old, but it doesn't feel like a light weight.
I asked the salesman about rumours of a bigger engine, and he said, no way, they don't need it. 80hp, 120hp and 150hp, and supposedly Yamaha has all the bases covered.
I wouldn't put much stock in anything the Salesman from Sudbury has to say though. He tried to tell me that the suspension in the Nytro was the same as in the Phazer, and he thought that this year was the first year for the Nytro to get the torsion spring skid.
I'm sooo sick and tired of walking into dealerships and telling the salesmen about the product they are selling. If you were making your living from selling these very expensive toys, wouldn't you want to know everything about it, and all the competitors products as well? I'll never figure out how these guys even get their jobs.

The rumor mill turns again-now what I'm hearing is that they will be putting together to 450cc engines from the dirtbikes. Be interesting to see what's on the horizon....

That's what I was assuming they would do to get the 800cc motor, only using the bore and stroke from the Original YZ400F.

I was rather stunned that the salesman at Sudbury Cycle and Marine was so sure there would be no larger version of the Phazer as it seems so obvious that if Yamaha can graft to 250's together there's nothing to stop them from doing it with the 450 next.

from what i understand, yamaha had some issues with keeping the exhaust cool, so they cut a bigger hole to allow more snow to come contact with the pipe

Took one of the Phazers for a long ride when the truck came end of last season. Although it did kind of die at the top end where I'm used to alot more power, I have to say if you ride one you will be smiling ear to ear with the low end torque and ease of throwing this thing around in the snow. It was a blast to ride. Really meant for the person just looking to trail ride or have some fun under 55mph. For sure no one is going to take it to the lake and race. The seat being thin like it is really does give you that dirtbike feeling that they were after. Worth the price for the kids.

That's Sudbury for you. Then they wonder why were always running out of town to buy our toys. Its cause they know nothing and never have what you want when you want it in stock.
