I am studding my wifed 98 Formula Deluxe 583. The Track is original (1500 mi) with 1" lugs.
I put in the 1" tunnel protectors and the ribs on the track seem to rub on the tunnel protectors and it does not seem right to me. I have studded my arctic cats and never came across this before.
Is this normal? What should I be doing? I am using the double plates w/ 1.25 studs.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

That doesn't make any sence, 1.25 in studs on a 1 inch lug should be using 1"
tunnel protectors. Can a guy cut down the lugs?? I would think that to be a pain in the as- and should not have to do that.

Any skidoo people know what options I have????

Something doesn't add up because ski-doo did not put stock 1" tracks on sleds until early 2000's. so maybe someone has stuffed a bigger track in it. ?? did you drop your upper carrier holes?

There are no other holes to drop the suspension, and maybe they orderd it with a bigger lug. If I have to I will cut out the lugs

I will look closer tomorrow.

The s-chassi sleds where one of the hardest sleds to go with bigger lug tracks. There's a set of carrier wheels up in the tunnel right above the rear swing arm. If there's no holes to drop it down then you need to drill them , there should be a set of holes in the bracket about 3/4" down from the factory. Just drill the holes in the tunnel and drop it . This was doo's way of giving you the option to studd a s- chassi.
If your lugs are hitting now your going to be sorry the first time you go out. Those lugs will flex over and you will stick a stud in your cooler .
Im curious.. where did you measure your lug ht ? If thats the orginal track it shoud be ether a .72 or.88 lug track which you still needed to drop the carriers down if you are studding it .
If you shave the lugs down and stay with the same studs your going to run into problems too, now your studs are longer and the lugs wont stop you on the protectors till its to late. Same goes for shaving your protectors down too .Studs should be no longer than 3/8 of a inch of your lug ht.

(Ski doouky) what do you mean by 583's arnt for chicks?, too big for them? . If thats the case you might want to re-think that . I know alot of chicks on bigger cc sleds that will give a guy a spanking and send them back to the shed with there tail between there legs. There's nothing wrong with a lady on a big cc sled if they have the education and experience to handle it .

just get a grinder and grind down the lugs thats what i had to do with my xcr after i put a new track on it. its very easy and should only take a couple of hours (if you want it perfect) just my 2 cents

Snomutt is correct on how to do this properly...If you look inside the tunnel you will see a set of lower holes already drilled in the bracket but not through the tunnel. All you have to do is drill the hole out through the side of the tunnel and drop the whole axle and idler wheel assembly down and it will give you the clearance you need for the studs and the track...Another way of doing it was to put smaller idler wheels on the shaft but I don't know what the part # is for those smaller wheels...You will need to readjust your track afterwards...No way in hell I'd be taking a grinder to my track

Dropping the front makes more sense to me and I seen someone once put a stud into a cooler in the up, no where to go. Not a good situation and would ruin any trip.
I usually don't do short rides, usually 60 to 175 every time I go out, so I want to do it right.

I didn't say a 580 is a chick sled, infact if my cat ever broke down I might concider riding hers Ha Ha

Kinda hard though, I am green through and through.
I know you were just kidding.

If you ever ride that ski-doo you'll never want to go back to your cat. :D

Snowmutt, you were right on about the rear carrier wheels, dropped them a inch looks good to go, studded it up and no issues.
Thanks for the input. 96 in the middle. SWRules

Now I am ready to go, I also did the miracle paint on the metal part of the skis,
works wonders to do away with rusting. Friend did a 32 ford with it 10 years ago that was solid rust, still no rust or peeling paint, awsome stuff. Too bad it only comes in black.
See ya on the trails

My brother (30cal4me) studded the '98 583 DLX my sister in law had. I don't remember any issues. I'll ask him during the deer hunt next week.
