Order new chain and bearing for chaincase(05 MXZX800). When i took it apart i'm pretty sure open side of bearing was facing inside chaincase.Picked up bearings today and mec. said to put open side of bearing facing out so filing from chain wear does not contaminate bearing. How come it came from skidoo open side in. Never had work done on chaincase before. When you order bearing from doo.they come packed with one side open top and bottom bearing

My bearing was facing the chaincase and that is how it went back in. It was original and in great shape, put it right back in. I did replace the Speedo one though, that faces out as well so that it can be greased.
Don't know how it would get greased if it faced out :lookaround:

Just had my brothers 98 FIII apart and the sealed side of the bearing was towards the gear.My 00 MXZ was the same way.

Put the open side of the bearing facing in.That way any filings or metal from the chain cant get through the seal and the oil will seep through the seal.

my rev shop manual says sealed side in the oil. if that is the case then why take a seal off? i know there is an axle seal. but why take the chance?

I had both of our 05 ss's apart(136 kit) and both where sealed side in the case. when I put them back together I filled the open side with grease.
I wondered about this too , my 00zx was the other way. I also heard this too that they flipped them so if the bearing went it did'nt take out the chain and gears along with it .
