Next week on our trip, we plan on taking L143 south from Timmins & connecting w/ C106A & heading east to Matachewan. I have been told that gas is available @ "The Sawmill". If we get there & it isn't, how far is it from C106A to Shining Tree?

When we get back I'll let you know what I find.

We made it ok from Timmins to Matachewan last year without fueling up along the way (indy500efi and XC600) and that incluuded getting lost for a few miles in the south end of Timmins. As far as I know there is some very expensive gas available at the sawmill.

I was there a couple of years ago, and we were surprised to find that the only gas available at Shining Tree was at the Three Bears Camp, and they were CLOSED for the evening!

Panic set in because we were on EMPTY, with nowhere to fuel up, and no ideas for accomodations (it was dark, and COLD!).

It all worked out for us, but you should be forewarned that your options can be VERY limited in that area!

Plan ahead!

I saw on another site that there is cheaper gas @ the station in Shining Tree. Rollo, do you remember offhand, how many miles it was to Matachewan? If we had to get gas @ the sawmill, it would just be a top up. Not a full tank.

Ain't that the truth! We rode from Sudbury to Shining Tree and back one Sunday last season. The gas stops had to be strategically planned due to gas stations being out of gas (!!!) and not open/not open after 6:00pm on Sunday.

Revrnd, I believe it was about 120 miles, don't remember exactly. It was however one of the greatest 120 miles of my life. Left Timmins Fri. morning. Trail was freshly groomed all the way, not a track on it and did not see one sled from Timmins to Elk Lake.

Hey all..

I am heading up to Matchewan the beginning of this week. I do believe that you can still get gas at Guy's which is the ESSO station in Matchewan.

We didn't make it to Shining Tree  Last Sunday westbound into Timmins on A11C I saw the sign east of town showing the trail south to Sudbury. Yesterday we didn't see the sign & by the time we realized it we figured it was too far to turn around. It would be nice if the club up there would use a few more L### & TOP trail designation signs @ the intersections.

:hallo1: Does anyone know if there is fuel available on "C" trail between Sudbury and Shining Tree?

There used to be cans available at Thor Lake. Are they still open or is there another alternative? :bash:

Does anyone know if there is gas available between Sudbury (Hamner) and Shining Tree? As I recall it is about 140 miles.

It used be available at Thor Lake but I heard that is no longer the case. Any information would be appreciated.

From what I gathered in some posts last season, if you gas up @ Rocky's on Wanipitei (98 miles to Shining Tree) or Sportsmans Lodge (86 miles to Shining Tree), you should be OK.

There is gas @ 3 Bears Camp in Shining Tree. I was told @ the T.O. show last weekend that cheaper gas is available across the lake in the village.

while you come off of the trail headed north and you are looking at the sign that says 3 bears before you cross the paved road there is a fuel station to your right about 2 miles.

Is there a trail or can we ride the ditch?
