I have a buddy that was told by the dealer here in town that his sled was one of few. They told him that his 98 XC 700 was factory bored 20 over. (2nd one made out of only a handful) Did Polaris do such a thing? Why would they bore a few over and then just stop doing it? Cause if he has any poblems now he is unable to bore it out any more.

i really dont know if polaris did or not but every company does some sneaky things every year just to see how they turn out. THey might have done it at prototypes to help make the 800 twin you really never know

Racing not an issue...This was only done in a handful of sleds so there are some out there that are stock at the normal size.

This might not relate but.....
It happens with cars all the time. Mostly due to production tolerances than anything but sometime not. There are 1996 LT4 Corvettes running around with stock dyno numbers WELL above their rated 330hp. (Some of the highest were close to LT5 ZR1 territory.) Maybe Polaris made "a few good ones?"
just a thought...

"A dealer said".
That statement alone is worth nothing. A dealer will say anything!!!!
Regardless, if the sled was overbored by the factory it's a freak thing. It could be a prototype etc. in which case it’s probably a misfit, which is not desirable!!!
Manufactures such as Polaris, Doo, Cat and Yamaha have ISO and QC standards that have to be followed. Unless this sleds model, serial and part numbers are documented by Polaris industries it does not exist.
Take the serial number off the motor and do a check through a different dealer or Polaris Industries.
I would bet this dealer or better yet your buddy is misguided and/or perhaps stretching the truth a bit.
