hey guys ive been contemplating buying a new sled and am really quite curious What made Arctic Cat Ditch the 700 and 900 this year and go with a 800 and 1000..There must be a good reason behind this move..however i really like the 06 crossfire but am kind of weary on it because of ac's recent move to discontinue the 7's..
So what were some of the factors making them decide to go with the 800 and 1000 instead..

I think it was marketing ie skidoo has the mach and renegade so cat put up the same displacement sleds

The change was made just to gain marketshare. Cat was the only builder with a mentionable 700 (Poo's 755 had not taken off that well). So cat threw themselves into the 800 ring.
Having ridden both the 700 and 800 side by side, on the same day. The 800 performs very similar in top end of the 700 (just a couple more peak HP) but is a bit more throaty in the mid range. A bit more grunt like a 800 Rotax had, but without the top end issues.
It is essentially the same stroke, but a little bit more bore on the piston, and cat re-did the case and cylinder castings to allow for more flow. They lilterally mimiced what the aftermakrket had done (D&D, Bikeman) with their great succes in their 800 big bores.
In flat out drag racing, me on the 7, my buddy on his 8, same miles (brand new, just out of the crate) dragging we were side by side in 500ft on the grass.
