i got my zr 900. its a 05 with the 10" secondary. I am just wondering about going to the 06 secondary witch is a 10.4". my question is to the guys who have switched from the 10 to the 10.4, how does it work?? any better speed, pulls better???? hows it working?? It looks like the helix is the same, and the white spring is still in it. Was it just the sheves that get replaced??? THe belt must be bigger too!!

thanks

Yes, they used the same secondary setup as far as helix and spring, so to convert you use the same, and like you said, the longer belt (Cat makes one)

Now, the reason this was done is that the 05 Diamond Drive sleds were geared too high, and the 10.4 helped with that. There has been some issues on the F7, M7 that the primary springs are binding in the primary, keeeping the sled from shifting out all the way.

One theroy is that cat swapped to the 10.4 to keep the primary from shifting out all the way.

With the new Crossfire Project sled, i will be working on this and developing a true way to run the 10.4 clutch and get full primary shift out. gaining the full advantage of adding a lower initial gear ratio to a full shift out beyond that of what was stock.

SO THe 06's are geared lower? So this would make the 06's slower, but yet better on the hole shot? I thought that the 05's we slow on top and a dog and sometimes sliggish out of the hole!! If you read some post from a year ago everyone sled the clutch's suck in the 900!! Just not sure if i should update!!!!

Well, from my reports, the 10.4 clutch was a band-aid fix.

The Diamond Drive settings in 05 were very innefecient, and the 10.4 cluth kind of allowed how much the primary would shift out.

Geared too High??? wouldnt a bigger secondary even gear it higher?? if you have a 10 tooth DRIVING a 20 tooth would be 2:1 a 10 tooth DRIVING a 22tooth would be a 2:1.4 isnt that higher?? The bight secondary would help top end right???

This is confusing!!!!

i mean 2:1.1 not 2:1.4

The bigger the secondary, the lower the starting shift ratio. The primary on the other hand works the other way.

so would it be worth the $300 to go to a 10.4", how much faster 1 or 2 mph??

You can get the parts from Black Diamond for about $150 US, and you use your existing helix, rollers, and spring.
