Planning a trip to the Adirondacks this winter for the first time. We will be coming from the Cleveland area.
A few general questions.
We have our NY State stickers, will we need to purchase trail permits as well?
What is the best place to stay based on our commute?
Where is a convenient place to stay while in the area? Preferably ski in/ski out. Not looking for luxury.
Any feedback is appreciated.
Thanks & Think Snow!

Roughly where are you looking to ride? When I used to ride Tug Hill area trail permits weren't required, but I believe they are in Old Forge ,( you may want to check with PowderBoy on Old Forge, he usually has info on that area.) If you get a bit more specific on where you are looking to go, I may be able to give some ideas on places to stay.

Town of Webb and Town of inlet (Old Forge) require seperate permits, the rest of the Adirondacks (and NY State for that matter) only require a NY registration and insurance cards.
For more local area information, you can locate clubs in that area by going to NYSSA Website (http://www.nyssnowassoc.org).

If you are going to come up here just for one week or weekend, then you can get a trail permit for the week once you get here for $45. If you are coming more than once, you'll save money if you get the season pass for $65, only if you get the application post marked by Nov 15th. Print out a copy here, and mail in in by the 15th or it's $80.

As far as a place to stay, you might want to book that now. Alot of the hotels and motels will rent for the season, and a weekly rental might be tough to come by.
http://www.oldforgeny.com Look under lodging. Don't bother trying King or Presidents Weekend, you'll never find a place to stay.
Let me know when you're coming and we can try to link up

inexpensive place to stay in Old Forge is @ the old KOA, now called "old forge camp grounds" I think. We rent a cabin there for the whole season. bring your own blankets and towels
