I wanted to put out a thread on what people believe are "must have's" for mods to attain the best mtn sled possible. I am fairly new to the mtn game, 3 yrs in the steep and deep, but have many under my belt on the flat-lands. So I have an M-7 with the following mods; ice scratchers, 4 inch Ole's riser, BMP suspension relocation kit, snow eliminators, SLP can, and a cold air vent pannel on the clutch side. What else should I be considering.
My only requirement is that it be fairly non-complex and 100% reliable as I am a pull the rope and ride kind of guy. I am also pretty tight (all reletive as this sport is darn expensive, especially when you consider I plan on taking 4 trips to the Mtns this year including a trip to Revelstoke, BC).
Anyhow, what else should I be looking at???
Well I'm not exactly sure if your M7 came with extrovert drivers, but it is a decent mod. The less rolling resistance, the more power to the ground

The two highest things ofr me on a Mtn sled are getting the bars were they belong and foot traction. Then on to the rest which it looks like your doing pretty good on. I would probably add a timing key and BMP pipe mod that was the biggest HP gains I got out of my M7.

Everyone I talked to seems to be really happy with their ported tracks. It cleans out the tunnel pretty well and lightens up the track a decent amount. You can read about it if you want at
www.trackpunch.com
Also, Doo is putting them on some of their new Summits.

Speaking of tracks, ditch the A20 if you have it and slap a challenger or mav on that 7
For the mountains the biggest must have mod is lightweight. A 200hp 650lbs sled isn't worth crap in the mountains to me. I would rather have 145hp 450lbs sled.

I would consider a boss seat. hightop highrise or at least a highrise. it helps a lot to be able to spring up from the seated position and having a seat that weighs double digit numbers less then stock and also sits 3-6 inches higher is a awesome add on. i have put them on both my last 2 sleds and will never buy another sled without putting one on it. and you can also order them with shovel and noss pouches on them for extra storage.

I have a 05 M7 153", 2 wheel rear kit, ice scratchers, snow eliminators, 3" Oles post, powdercoated suspension(helps with ice buildup alot, BMP Pipe Mod, BMP can, timing key, Vforce 3s, Boondocker, EGTs, Cutler Adjustable Weights in a BMP clutch kit, HRP relocation bracket(i'm guessing thats what you meant you had, revalved rear shocks by Shocktech, Maverick Track, Boss Highrise Flatop, Diamond S mesh hood with intake to stock box. I have a D&D shift assist, Black Diamond lightweight driveshaft, and possibly fox floats for the front left to add this summer.
The HRP Bracket and shock revalving really helped the ride out. I would go with a challanger track the Maverick track is falling apart on me already. The Diamond S hood and Boss seat lost quite a bit of weight and no need for the vented side panels anymore plus the seat added some extra storage and put me at alot better seating position. Suck your limiter strap up all the way that helps the sled climb out of the snow great. The BMP clutch kit with cutler adjustable weights works great and really lets you dial in the clutching. If your looking for some more HP go wtih a BMP Pipe mod and Timing key that really wakes the sled up. I've heard alot of people are really happy with the RTK head but i'm afraid of having to always run premium fuel or race gas so haven't done that yet.
The biggest must have IMO which will add a few #s but well worth it is a one of the new skid plates cat came out with for next season that goes all the way back and out to the sides protecting the Diamdon Drive, Clutches, Brake disc, ect after both my cousin and I bent the bottom frame flange around the bottom edge of our Diamond Drives we put 2 on order for this fall.
