I write a weekly feature on atv's, snowmobiles, and motorcycles (depending on the season). And now we're getting into sled season...which I know next to nothing about.

We like to cover things like safety tips, generic tips and ideas, and any fixes, mods, or whatever else that are quick and easy to do. Like quick 'n easy field repairs. Or simple repairs you can do in your garage.

If anyone has any suggestions I should write about or can point me in a good direction to start digging up info, that'd be cool. And GREATLY appreciated! The main criteria in the end is that it has to be relevant to riders.

Thanks for any help!

Here's a safety tip that I feel strongly about. DON'T DRINK and RIDE. Wait until the ridding is done for the day to start drinking. Most accidents that happen are alcohol related. Here is another tip. Know your sleds limitaions and capabilities.

Will you mention snowmobileworld.com in the article?

STAY RIGHT on the trail!

Stay ON the trail as this is the biggest reason we lose them.

Waive to the groomer drivers- they are volunteers (around here) and could be out riding instead.

Join a club.

-Keep the loud pipes/cans to the race sleds. Trails are closed because of noise.
-Stay on the marked trail!!! The marked trail does not include the 300 or so feet in
either direction!!!!
-Wait until the season officially opens!!!!
-Stay on your side of the trail at all times.
-Know your hand signals and use them. The person coming the other direction is
not waving at you.
-You don't need a $10,000 150hp sled to have fun. A used well taken care of fan
cooled 340 or 440 will always get the job done.
-Remember that there are families with young kids out on the trails. So don't ride
like your the only person out there or think your johnny sno-x wannabe.

DO NOT DRINK AND RIDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!

I work for an FM rock station called "The Goat". There's a link I believe in my signature...but just in case: www.borderrock.com

Also, THANKS for all the replies! I actually wasn't expecting more than 1 or 2 replies. Thanks again! SWRules

Also, car wax will make the hood part of the sled shine, but it will destroy the plastic bellypan.
-Basic fall maintinance before riding, clean carbs, check the airbox for mouse nest, empty any remaining gas and put in fresh, grease all grease fittings incuding the one under the secondary clutch (the big one not conected to the engine) for the seedometer. That one is easy to miss. Check Carbides and sliders for ware, replace if nessisary. Alittle bit of preventative maintinance will save you a lot of money down the road.

Make sure you wash your clothes from last year :dazed:

One big safety thig i always tell newbies who ride with us, "don't ride outside of your abilities." If you are with a group of faster riders, they will wait for you at the next intersection. Don't ride dangerously just to try to keep up, or you'll be getting a free ride in an ambulance, and might even bring someone with you.

Thats all i got for now

[/b] Forgive me, but I have a couple of questions and I hope you understand why I'm asking, First, If you write a weekly feature on these , how come you know next to nothing about them? I hope I don't come off wrong but that was my first thought.

2nd, Would snowmobileworld be mentioned in your article as giving some great advise from excellent people who ride sleds?

Having said that, My advise would be to always be on the alert for deer and or animals that will just come out of nowhere....That can ruin your day/night in a big hurry.
