Hi!
I just bought my wife :inlove: a -01 t-cat. :christmas:
Only problem is that the rear shock feels very weak  (not the springs).
Where they set up weak from A-C or is the shock just is in need of some service (change of oil and gas)?
We ride in rough country so something needs to be done about it
If the rear shock were weak from the beginning/factory, any one have a good shock set up?
I have a friend that can rebuild and adjust it, but he wants me to ask if there is any known recipe how to set them up (changing shims inside)
Previous owner used Ohlins all around and sad it made a new sled, but they were not to be sold with this sled and he put OEM. parts back on it (and in my opinion new Ohlins is too expensive...)

Mine scared the heck out of herself on a ZR 580 a few years ago and won't even try it again.

Then she got hocked on arctic cat’s, this Thunder cat is her 3:d A-C
Never the less, i need to do something with that rear shock!

And don't think "female snowmobiler"¨

Rebuild ALL the shocks. They need it at least every two years. The gas leaks past the floating piston and cavitates the oil and the damping is gone. Make sure the "O" ring on the floating piston is changed. Don't change the stock valving, just clean, new oil, and recharge to 200 psi.

just an fyi: I sent all 4 of mine to www.deycore.com and got all 4 done and shipped back for $127. (+ 20 bucks to ship it there.)
Took less than a week too.

There are also a couple guys on this board that rebuild them too.

My dealer wanted $60 per shock plus parts!

Also check the rear scissor arm location, allot of guys moved these forward on the late model tripples to gain weight transfer. This also will give the skid quite a bit more fulcrum and makes the shock feel less stiff.

I think the ZRt only had 2 holes, but look at the same vintage ZR and you will see they had 4 or 5 sets of holes to adjust this. It will help her keep the skis on the ground.
