I recently obtained this truck in a trade for a rusted out 65 Barracuda I had. I jumped on it B/C I knew it would sell faster then the car that had been in my driveway for ten years and was missing a quarter panel. Anyway it is a 1980 Chevy 1 ton dually with a 454. AT/ factory air, power door locks, and reese hitch. The odometer works and shows 50K miles. The guy I got it from brought it back from out west somewhere and didn't need it and his daugter wanted on old hotrod and he was a mopar guy. I had a mechanic help me tune it up the other night and he thought it might be only 50 K miles. It had the original plugs and wires and fuel filter. He said the person that had this truck kept it in such good shape that they not have put 150 K miles on it without tuning it up. Another guy drove it and he said he was not convinced on the miles b/c he thought the front end was a little "loose" and the brakes do pull to the left pretty good. Anyway here in IN you don't find truly rust free truck that is 26 years old. Cab corners and rockers are solid, inner fenders and bed floor as well all solid. Parts of the frame still has the factory paint on it. THe only problem I have found is the starter is starting to go. It starts up fine but once it gets hot and you shut it off it cranks over real hard like the battery is dead. I thought that was the timing but a mechanic told me that chevy big blocks are notorious for starter problems. This is my first experience with one. I had inherited the cuda so I did not have any money in it so I could make a deal on the truck but I don't want to give it away. I am thinking about putting it on Ebay. What should I start it at and what kind of reserve price should I hold out for.

WOW :!: Thats a nice truck. Very clean for the year. But no matter what you sell it for. that 65 barracuda would have been worth a lot more. I hope you do good on selling the truck.

I am in Indiana. In the proper condition the cuda would have been worth more. The problem is I cant do bodywork and my mechanical skills are minimal. As most of you know if you can't do the work yourself it cost a mint to restore and old car, especially a Mopar. Like I said it was missing a quarter, floor boards were going and it was starting to rust around the fender wells. It had sat for over 4 years so the engine would need some attention. For what it would cost to restore the car I could buy something already done. Anyway I have had people tell me it (truck) is worth $3500-4500 US. I think it would be ideal for someone who needs to tow a trailer or something like that but cant afford 10K plus for a newer dually.

Guys, give Flyin a break. You haven't seen the Cuda, so how can you say what it was worth...sounds like it was pretty rough, and had been available for 10 years and no one took it. A lot of people say they'll give this or that for an old rotted out muscle car, 'til they start adding up how much it'll take to get it in shape. It's usually cheaper to buy one that's already done.
I wouldn't doubt the miles on that truck...typical Western vehicle. I used to go to Arizona to visit my folks and was always amazed at the ages and condition of the vehicles out there. As for the frontend being soft, age as well as miles wear on those kind of parts. Those rubber parts can dry out in that weather out there. Looks like you got a pretty nice truck there. As for it's value, maybe $8,000???? Hard to tell since there aren't any out there like it for sale. If you have it running good, I would drive it around for a while....sooner or later, guys will notice it and ask you if it's for sale when they see how clean it is.

I think the prices people have been throwing around are pretty high. No matter how good of shape it's in, it's still just an old truck. I'd say you'd be lucky to get $3500CAN for it if you were around here. Don't know what that means for where you are because you have to think about the exchange rate and the local market demand.
