All
I just purchased a used 2005 Vector RS ER. Got 6 miles down the trail and noticed my LCD was blank. Stopped, shut the engine off, went to restart and it would not turn over. Got a jump start went 2 miles and the engine started to back fire and finally stalled completely. I had previous charged the battery for ~16 hours at 1.5 amp (slow charge). I replaced the battery and took a voltage reading at the jumper cables attachment point with the new battery and the engine off. It showed 12.65 volts. With the sled running I'm seeing 11.65 volts.

At face value this might be a bad stator.

I have no error codes on the LCD

Any comments greatly appreciated

Thanks!!!
Dan

Your measurements would indicate a bad charging system or short? Leave us know what problem is. When my instrument pod went blank, it was a short in hood wiring. Also lost tail light.

Thanks for the reply! After more testing I found that the stator ohmed out at .3 between middle and left leg and .5 between the middle and right leg of the stator. I measured it at the point where it plugs into to the recitfier. The yamaha service manual says it should be between .26 and .29. I don't have a ohm meter that measure's 100ths of a ohm. I talked to 3 different dealers around the Minneapolis area and they said that was within spec. It's only between .1 and .4 variance so I replaced the rectifer which DID NOT fix the problem.

I have since removed the stator (what a pain!!) and found it was burned. I have sent it to RMStator for repair.

RMStator (http://www.rmstator.com)
RMStator that they have seen a lot of stators on the Ventures and Vectors going bad.

Thanks again!!
