there are 4 holes to put the spring in. from 1 to 4 going higher what does it do. upshift and backshift harder or softer?

Its for a higher or lower spring preload. More preload the keeps your rpms higher.

Timespent - the most practical use for that is to tune the secondary asyou go higher/lower in elevation for guys riding in the mountains, or as the spring looses tension over age.

It is "get you buy" adjustment, and will roughly move the full shift out RPM up or down about 75-100RPM one hole to the next.

so should i start in position 1 or 2 to start and move up over time? will putting it in 2 lower my shift or raise it? i want as much low end power as i can get

Like I said, this is a very fine tuning element. it is really for day-to-day adjustment, it is really for keeping the RPMs in the sweet spot when conditions change.

If you are looking to upgrade, that 700 big-block is a great motor to clutch.

well ok thanks, ill start in the 2 position and see how i like it from there. i have a 600 big block that was clutched by the guy who owned it before me but i might take that apart and change it a little to.

i would put it in hole 3 myself. most sleds come from the factory with the spring in hole 2. in theory they say if you put the spring in a higher position, it will raise rpm. i have not really ever noticed that. i like my springs in higher positions because of the better backshift. they respond sooooo much better in the trails. speedwise....2 is supposed to be faster than 3, but probably not that much.

when I put a new helix in the secondary on my indy, I was told to put it in the 2nd hole because it's the factory hole, then ride it to see how it performs. If you want a little bit better backshift move it to the 3rd hole. The 2nd hole on mine wasn't too bad, but the backshift was a little bit low, so I put it in the 3rd hole and it took care of that problem.
