what kind of pressure should a fuel pump of a triple polaris engine put out? (lbs). i have a 650 RXL converted to carbs (all specs to SLP's website) we had it out on a ride today but only made a mile and it died. before we left i went thru EVERYTING. took carbs apart, cleaned, doulbe checkd all adjustments to be the same. i hit 2 snow drifts, we went to boot it across a wide open field, but when i went to open it up there was nuthing there, kept gettin worse, till it died. towed it home, took the carbs all apart again, reassembled, but STILL wont run. the plugs were new before the ride, compression is at 110-115 across all three, EGTs run clost to the same. last yrs fuel was syponed out and new stuff added, hoze inside tank was replaced. all itll do is run for 10 secs till u flip the choke on or off, or try to give it fuel. everyonce in a while itll back fire out the exausht as ur at the end of the pull when startin it. my next idea is to drop the needles to the 2nd notch from the top. (at 3rd now).
main jets 310's
needle jets Q-2's
pilot jets - 45's
air screws - 2 turns out
idle screws 4 turns out.
fuel pump rebuilt tonite. (pulse pressure off motor good)
thanks for the help.

my 650 (1990) has 230 mains (5000 feet), one turn out on the air screw, 45 pilots, needle in the number 2 position. (stock exhaust, Mikuni 38mm carbs)
Do you have SLP's pipes on it? If not, I think you may be running pretty rich with 310's...

i have SLP pipes and i belive 0-3000 is the area we ride in (central saskatchewan). so far the average temp has been about -20. i installed a digitron today but never got to really run it hard enough to see how high the numbers would go with that jettin. i dropped the needles to the number 2 slot. SLP says 6DH4 needle jets, i checkd mine and they are 6DH7, would this be causin a floodin condition? the brothers 800 storm's needle jets are pointed just like a needle (long n sharp). mine are almost a blunt tip. i think his needles would be alot better. also i hooked up a new fuel filter, one from the local hardware store, its a fram G2, i think its over kill and the pump might not be able to suck thru it. anyone else think this filter is to much? thanks for the help.

A couple of points from Mr. Obvious. Was there gas in the float bowls when you took the carbs off? Some (most) fuel filters are one way flow, do you have the filter going the "right way"? We can assume the new fuel pick up in the tank is in the bottom of the tank, right? Make sure you get that new fuel pump diaphram in the correct way. Let us kow what finally works.

fuel line is correct in tank, fuel filter was on correctly, im sure the fuel pump was put 2gether right, talkin to a local sled shop they are thinkin more CDI box, i have one off a XLT but the coil power hook up is diff, it would be nuthin to "mod" it to work, as long as the boxes would work back and forth.
