: My Wonderful Sks
NewfieBullet 11-28-2006, 09:17 AM I have my SKS at the Dealer's selling it on consingment, and yesterday they said they have a buyer for it. As much as I'm happy to have the money, selling it like that makes me so sad, almost like I'm asking someone else to take one of my dogs and find a home for it.
I tried everything I could to get someone I knew to buy it, but none of my friends were in the market for a sled this year, and I thought about keeping it myself, but couldn't justify having an 03 800 and an 07 700. Seemed excessive.
I've always been pissed whenever anyone badmouthed the Edge chassis. I loved that sled, everything about it. THe look, the ride, the handleing. It never did anything to surprise me (except in a good way, I was always amazed at where it could go with out getting stuck) and seemed to me to be the ultimate machine both on and off trail.
You might ask, if I loved it so much, why get a new one, and I kind of asked myself that too sometimes, but like anything else, I was so used to it that I was getting bored. It was so predictable, I always knew how it would react, and I just figured it was time to get to know another machine.
(Maybe that attitude explains why I'm still single! LOL)
Plus the only thing I didn't love about the SKS is that it wasn't the best in the big moguls. It can handle the rough stuff, but I always felt like I was mistreating it. So now I'll have a big-bump machine which suits me better.
Anyway, just had to get this off my chest. I'll be on the lookout for it this winter when I'm on the trail.
timespentsearching 11-28-2006, 09:45 AM i feel your pain, letting stuff go that you love is hard. you know that you took such good care of it ad the next guy may treat it like $h!t. ive always liked the SKS and the 03's were the best of them all. hope you have a good time with the new dragon, it going to be a insane sled. putting an extension on it?
Plamb 11-28-2006, 03:14 PM I hear you. It is tough to watch something that brought so much fun go out of your life. Just remember - the 07 will bring you all kinds of new adventures! (by the way - the ripsaw track skips water like a long track!)
CORY9 11-28-2006, 07:19 PM Felt the same way last year when I sold my Legend, almost cried when I watched it being loaded up! Funny how they become a part of you, almost family.
The first ride on the new one will definitely help ease the pain!

Pretty much exactly what I was thinking Mr Cory9. Wish I were waiting for my absolutely new, state of the art, top drawer sled to show up.......
GEEEEEEZZZ!!!!
Impossible to make some people happy........
Plamb 11-28-2006, 10:19 PM You got me thinking about this topic a bit more... I felt the same way when I sold my '69 Cutlass convertible. It was strange watching someone else pull away (especially when the new guy opened it up about 1 block from my house and I could hear the exhausts screaming!). Anyway - I ended up emailing the guy about a week later and asked him to drop me a line every once in a while and tell me how it was doing. I figured he never would... but, every year or so (or maybe longer) he sends me a quick message, which is fun as hell to get. Since he took ownership... she has a new interior, and his teenage son drove her to his senior prom. Anyway, maybe sappy, but I think its kind of cool. You could do the same... maybe the new guy will treat your ride like you did and will take it to some cool new places.

TrailPower 11-29-2006, 02:05 AM I bought a 1980 caddy coupe deville a few years ago, and it wasn't in the greatest shape. i got it for practically nothing. but the owner LOVED this car, but he had to get rid of it...no room and nagging wife.(been there). but anyway, i redid the body and interior, and alot of custom work on it, lowered it, new rims, rebuilt the engine. and when i finished it. i had a buddy of mine who is a photographer take some pictures of it. and i remember his name so i sent him a copy of the pictures, and last time i bumped into him, he told me he had one blown up and its hanging on his living room wall. i've since sold the car, and i kinda wish the new owner would show me how she is doing.
NewfieBullet 11-29-2006, 09:06 AM putting an extension on it?

I've been thinking about that. I think I'll try it as a 121 for awhile and see what I think. I'll certainly miss the deep-snow capability, but I'm curiouos about a smaller, nimbler feel that you get with a short rack. I'll have to wait to see if I like it.

No doubt! Once I have the chance to get out and get a feel for it I'm hoping I'll love the new one even more then the SKS. Even once it gets here and I have it in the back of the truck I'll be happy.

I know, shocking hey? It's not that I don't like getting new stuff ( I love it) but I hate getting rid of my old stuff. You must know how I feel, or you wouldn't have 3 sleds, :p
michahicks 11-29-2006, 03:37 PM >>>>You must know how I feel, or you wouldn't have 3 sleds,<<<<
OK, you've got my number.......still jealous of you though.
Edit: Second thought. Ask me how bad I'd feel regarding the loss of any one of my sleds to make room for one like you're getting, or how long it would take me to make my mind up to do that if it was even remotely possible!
Maybe next year.....
FreezerBurnt 11-29-2006, 05:46 PM how much are you getting and how much is the consignor getting?
I bought one of my Indy 500 for $1800 and rode it for a season
The next Nov I brought to a dealer and they agreed to consign it
He told me how does $2500 sound for you and he gets whatever he can over that
"Ok" but in my head was there is no way he will get that
He calls me 2 weeks later and gives me $2700 :D
Not sure how much he sold it for but I would have been happy to get $1800
makes me want to consign my ZR :sly:
NewfieBullet 11-29-2006, 10:33 PM It's selling for $5500, and they're taking 10%.

Just wondering was that at The Shop you consigned it. If it was have you heard that they are getting out of everything other than Harleys.
NewfieBullet 11-30-2006, 06:30 PM I heard that yea. Apparently, Honda already has another dealer lined up, but I don't know who'll be taking over Polaris.
Dave600 11-30-2006, 08:26 PM Well thats good to hear. I'm a big honda fan, glad there's still going to be a dealer here.
