As we discussed in a previous thread, it's up to you the fine SW folks as to where the ride will be this year.

Pick a location and leave comments if you like. All I would ask is that you review the earlier pinned thread for details, and IF you vote for a particular location, you plan on attending at that location .... please! We'll leave this poll open till December 15th, at which time we'll decide if there has been enough interest and participation to decide on a location or to continue the poll.

The ride will be spread over 5 days, March 7th to 11th, with the "big nite" being Saturday March 10th.

Make your voice heard ... get on here and place your vote.

Wish I could ride with you guys this year but the family is expanding the first week of March and I will be busy (but happy) at home that week. Hope it all runs smoothly!

PS - my vote would have been for cochrane

I see 2 votes for SSM and 2 for NL ... no names or comments. Please, leave your comments so I know who is willing to help when a location is chosen.

I'm voting for New Liskeard as I'll already be in that area at that time ..... AND I know I can count on Rottie to help out with the run ... right Steve?

Maybe we should plan to do next years ride in the second place location?

The NWT is a bit too much of a drive for me.

Well I guess I'm the first to vote for Cochrane.

My reasons are that the 2nd week in Cochrane it's a pretty sure bet that we'd find snow there and tons of it.
Last year they had a severe storm hit just as most of us were heading home that dumped around a foot of fresh snow.

By the time we hit New Liskeard, it was raining and MikeD's crew ran across some pretty bare stretches of trail. (If memory serves me correctly. Lord knows how it's one of the first things to go. There Mike, I opened the door for you to correct me. :lmao: )

The time frame is perfect for me as we're doing a cruise this year and there's no better way to recover from all of that heat and sunshine than to get on a sled and ride. :D So since I can't go any earlier and these are our choices, my vote is for a pretty sure thing as far as snow goes. We loved riding the trails and tons of off trail there last year so we know the area offers some fantastic riding second to none.

Since Rvanderklok is busy this year, I would love to do Elliot Lake next year and sometime earlier such as mid February.

Jeff

Yes, but that makes for a bit of a ride to get to the Canyon for those that want to play off trail.

But not that I'm trying to influence anybody's votes.  :D

Jeff

BTW, Freezie, Cats and all others are always welcome on SW Rides.
We had a few last year. Even a couple from the Keystone State.

You are correct Jeff ... but surely it won't rain on the same week end two years in a row ... will it?

I went with New Liskerd cuz although I've started and ended rides there, and ridden thru it, I've never spent much time there. It's a little closer than Cochrane and I only have limited time for the SW week end this year as I'm taking a week off in Feb. I'm certain we'll find some off trail .. I'm counting on it. I've been to Cochrane the last 7 or 8 years, and although I never get bored, I just wanted to try something a little different. I'm hoping for Elliot Lake next year ... likely a little earlier.

Who chose the Soo? And do you know of some good off trail areas and accomodations? I know very little of the area ......

Well....I voted for New Liskeard. Reason beeing, while I was "promoting" Elliot Lake, I forgot a MAJOR factor......We only currently have ONE gas station! The new ESSO is being built, but It doesn't look like it'll be ready any time soon. The ESSO is also the station that's right on the OFSC trail. On top of that, for some reason, the other gas station can't keep "fuel treatment" in stock. It's being bought as fast as they put it on the shelves, so that tells you how much faith there is in thier gas. Crappy gas just doesn't seem to work well at 8000 rpm. lol.

I voted for North Bay.
I'm still not sure I can get enough time off for anywere farther but will at least be able to get out for the weekend.
I have done the RAN tour and some other trails in the area but usually ride the shore line on the south central side of the lake were our camp is.
The Non OFSC trails I've done that way would not be suitable for a large group because it's only a few beaver ponds with short narrow hunting trails between them.
The lake is an good off trail ride but speed usually gets in the way and folks ride rite past the bays were the deep stuff is. It's also hard to find good hills on a lake.LOL
Would really like to find some more open off trail spots on the north side of the lake around North-Bay, Sturgeon Falls or Lavigne but without a local, it's hit and miss so I often just stay on my side of the lake.
I'll try to make it to were ever but can't commit to anything farther than the Bay at this point.

The is real good off trail riding north and east of north bay, mostly power line stuff. You can do North bay to temagami on the power lines, lots of hills, lakes, creeks, plenty of places to play.

I've rode the one that "A' trail follows north towards Martin river. I'll have to try to follow that all the way this season.
Was hoping for something more to the west and closer to Sturgeon Falls. I can see the lights of Garden Vilage across the lake from me.
Having to go through Sturgeon to get to the trail that takes me to the "C" trail power lines sucks.

It's December 15 and New Liskeard is leading by two votes, and has been for a couple of days. There seems to be no more activity, do we declare a winner so we can start planning?

December 18th, still New Liskeard. I think we can safely call NL our distination for '07.

Now, who all will be attending and who can help out?

I'll be able to, hopefully Rottie will step up as well. Can I get some more people here to collect prizes and help out?

I guess we should close out this "vote" thread and reactivate the other one ...
