I walked into the dealership this morning just for something to do, not expecting my machine for another week, and when one of the guys told me my sled was in I told him to go F*&^ himself and stop teasing me, but he said "No, I'm serious, it's there in the garage". I glaned out through the door and there it was. I haven't stopped smiling since.

I had it out for a ride this evening, put on a quick 36 miles, and so far, so good. It pulls REALLY hard, really nice in the mid range. Sounds beautiful. It's a little tippier then I expected, and I need to get hte suspension dialed in, but that will come with a few rides.

The good thing is I felt at home on it right away. Feels very familiar already, so I know I'm going to be comfortable with it, even more so when the suspension is set for my weight and dialed to my liking.

It feels like Christmas morning, and this is the best present I ever could've given myself.

I took a few pics, but with the changes to the forum I can't seem to figure out how to load them.

I can't find the "attach photo" button anywhere, which really bites, cause I just paid to be a supporting member again the other day specifically with the idea of attaching photos.

Oh well, you'll have to take my word for it that it's sweet.

That's great news!

From what I was told by a local dealer I was afraid you'd be sitting unti January.

Enjoy, I truly think the Dragon is the sled to be on this year.

So far so good. I already feel really at home on the sled after 100 miles. It's still alot tippier then I was expecting, and I kind of feel like I did when i went from my 94 Panther to my 97 Cougar. I know I can carry more speed everywhere, but I always feel like I'm on the edge of rolling it over. It also gets sideways when I'm on the brakes alot more then my SKS used to.

The great thing is, I had been thinking that I really missed the SKS, but I had the chance to take it for a quick test run yesterday, and it felt foriegn to me already, like something wasn't right. The handles bars are too far back and the seat is too low. If I'm already feeling more at home on the Dragon that's got to be a sign that they've got the ergos right.

Really, the only thing so far that I still don't like is the lack of a tool kit, and any place to put one. How can you not have a tool kit on a sled? Seems really stupid. And I used to make fun of the RX-1's because there was no where to put stuff. This one is worse. It should have a removable seat or something with a place for a tool kit underneath, or they should've been able to squeeze one in on top of the oil tank like on the old sleds. I'll have to figure something out.

I'm still like a kid in a candy store with this thing, and I'm going to have to go for another ride today, but this time I'm going to take a few tools with me so I can fiddle with the handle bars and scissor stops etc.

We haven't had snow in almost a week and the temps are getting way up there. I hope this is not a sign of things to come.

I like this too. It stores the max speed you hit, as well as giving you loads of other info on the digital guage. I never thought I'd liek digital guages, but other then the trip meter not being visable when the machine is shut off I really like it.

How is the steering effort at slow speeds? Similar to your SKS?

Congrats on the new sled man, I've heard great things about it. Hopefully you can just get some more snow to use it eh? The snow situation is pretty bad here in NL too, I've only gotten 1 small run in so far. Hope yea have fun on it!

Nice sled...does it have a sway bar?

NewfieBullet
12-14-2006, 09:58 AM
Yea, it has a sway bar. I think the tippiness is simply coming from the ride height, and the higher cornering speeds I'm carrying. I was also getting alot of bite on the groomed/packed trails, no push at all. Using more body language then I'm used to I didn't find it as tippy as at first.

Nice sled newf.
how are the trails holding up in North Bay.
We are coming up to see the family at christmas but did not think it would be worth it to bring the sleds? Is that correct.

Unless we get another major snow storm, I wouldn't bother bring the sleds. Trails have been shot since tuesday's rain. We've got almost no snow left now.
Back to the quads for tomorrow's ride. Oh well, there's lots of winter left yet.

Congrats on the new sled! I have to ask though, still hating to see the old one go?

Reason I wrote though, is about the tippiness. You probably already know this, but maybe this will get you thinking about what's going on. If the sled is hooked up solid front and rear, when/if pushed hard into a corner it's going to feel that way (top heavy/tippy). Perfect setup would have the back end breaking loose just after the inside ski starts to lift......or when a bunch of power is dialed on. Too much traction out back sucks for hard play in the twisties.

Hey,
I have to say that I don't miss the SKS nearly as much as I thought I would. I still wish someone I knew had bought it, but oh well, my friends loss is someone else's gain. And as I wrote somewhere else, I actually had a chance to ride the SKS again, and it felt OLD! Everything about it just seemed awkward. Funny, it used to fit me like a glove, but one weekend on the Dragon, and the SKS felt wrong. The new chassis really is better ergonomically.

THat's a good point about the tippiness, and it's true that the days I was out the snow was heavy and I was getting alot of bite with the skis and the track, so I'm sure that made it seem tippier then it is.

I just wish we had snow again so I could keep up the testing and the fine tuning. I love figuring out a new sled.

I WISH! But I don't think it'll happen this year. I gave up driving home for Christmas last year, and I can't exactly take the sled as carry on luggage. It's possible I suppose in March, but it would mean taking my last week of vacation, and I'd like to save a week for the summer. Sure would be nice though, there's no better place for riding off-trail.

Just wanted to make a note about the gauge that we love so much. If ya check your manual (I'm guessing it's the same with all Polaris sleds) the recorded top speeds, rpms, etc, are sensitive to electronic noise produced by your machine itself, and can give false readouts.

NewfieBullet
12-19-2006, 08:27 PM
Yea, I read that in the owners manual.
Did you figure out how to get the max rpm? It's easy enough to find the max speed, but I haven't been able to find the max rpm yet.
Do you guys have any snow there? I'm pretty sure the west coast is bare. Makes me feel better that I won't be there with a sled for Christmas.

Pepsi_fuzz
12-22-2006, 10:28 AM
The easiest way to get the max rpm (when in the blue setting) is to simply press "up" until it reads max rpm (I'm not sure if it's one press or two). If you're in the red setting, just press and hold up for at least 5 seconds, then it will turn to blue mode, then tap up like I just said and it will take you to your maximum rpms. Unless... they changed the computer system since my sled, lol. It took me a long time to figure out how to use a complete computer with just two buttons, lol.

If you want to reset your max rpms, while in the screen I just told you, press and hold the "down" button, and it will reset the value for the maximum rpm. The reset feature is available on almost all the screens.

We had snow a few weeks ago, enough to log 100 miles in two days, but right now it has been rain/snow mixture ever since. Enough to not need winter tires, but the snow won't go away either. Not enough snow to crap on, lol. Today, however, it's snowing hard out. If it keeps it up, we might be able to snowmobile on Christmas day. :)
