I've replied to a few post recently on over fueling and black soot , no power from 89 and so Wild Cats.
Well just had one in the shop for repair and it had the same problem. After ruling out all electrical issues I started in on carbs and pulse lines. Did a pressure test on crank case, and all was fine.
I was starting to get confused at this point to say the least as my wild cat always came down to cdi boxes causing this problem. But I had tested this area and even replaced with a spare to be sure.
So I removed the carb to air box boots and looked in with a mirror as it was running. Although the choke free play was right on the money, I could plainly see fuel dumping into carbs from choke ports. So replaced the the choke plugs and low and behold problem solved. The old ones looked finne just the rubber was at the point of being brittle enough to allow fuel blow by and not be visible.
I used the type with the pin that sinks into choke tube hole.
Just thought I'd share this with all of you Wild Ones out there.
