I am wanting to restore a vintage skidoo. I am kind of jsut starting to get into the vintage snomobile thing and i am wondering what kind of ski-doos are rare and would be worth resotring.

If you like doing that sort of thing..any sled would be cool. The older blizzards and tnt's would most definatly be my choice. But thats just me.

What I call restore is get the sled running good/trail ready and somewhat cleaned up. I don't go to the extent of the "pros" with painting, chrome, and decals. Someday. I like the "as is" look.

I restored a mid 70's tnt 340 fan to my liking. Nothing fancy. If I were to restore an old ski doo again I would make sure it has electric start. The pull starts on those are crap and the aftermarket parts that I could find to fix it are even worse. I had a hell of a time with the old tilly carb on that thing, if possible I would find one with a old mikuni carb. Maybe others have had better luck but this is what I determined.

Right now I'm working on cleaning up a 75 arctic cat panther, so far no major problems except the person who had it before me didn't know what he was doing with the carb. Parts seem to be easily available although I've heard people grumble a little about finding parts for the kawi 440 motor, not sure though.

I also have a late 70's yamaha enticer 340, it won't die, I haven't done a thing to it except ride it. Even took it to the u.p. for a friend to ride, not a single problem. Too bad the belly pan is starting to rust out. I'm thinking about actually restoring it and cleaning it up. Great runner.

A 1977 Olympique 340 is a good choice.Many shows i have been to only to have never seen one.

Depends on your Pocket Book and Desire for a sled....TNT's and Blizzards are cool, but can get expensive to restore.....if you are dooing your first sled, I reccommend an Olympique - 1969 / 1970 in a single cylinder....Easy to work on, parts are easy to find and you will learn alot in the process....

Ultimately you have to restore what you like...which is why I am dooing a 65 Oly, then a 74 Elan, then a 71 Oly, then a 67 Oly. My 71 and 72 TNT's are not in need of restoration, so they stay as is.
