I have an 85 indy trail, I'm perfectly happy with my sled the way it is EXCEPT for the handle bars, I want to raise them, but the bars and the steering post is one piece..is there a way to do this? or can i easily replace my steering post with a newer one that will take a riser?

You can buy risers for that sled im pretty sure, your probably going to want to get a pivot adaptor as well. Correct me if i am wrong.

how would i be able to get a riser...The bars and the steering post are welding together as one piece.

I did not know they were welded together...Then your best bet would be too cut it off and weld on the mounting plate from a newer indy, i know 1990 and up has it, and then you could bolt a mounting kit on. Otherwise im not sure if any other steering stems will fit.

This is just an idea, I think the '01-'03 ZX Doos used a cross bar on top of the steering post for their riser mount. You could cut your bars off about two inches from the post and add the Doo riser and bars. The only thing is, you wouldn't have the knurling on the bar to grip the riser. That would provide you with a pivot riser then also. I think I might even have a handle bar, I'll have to look to make sure I didn't toss it.
